It's become kind of a tradition for me to watch this video every time I get a tattoo. By now I basically know it by heart and have my own healing process down but I still religiously watch it, it's just become part of the process
Literally same. Was just tattooed today and BACK AT THIS AGAIN!
Same
Literally me LOL
sAME
just use saniderm, this is too long
you can put your lotion in the fridge and it is great for itchyness xxx
For now, just put it in the basket =)
Randall Flagg hahaha
Cool recommendation. Thanks!
Great tips! It's so interesting because I've always been told to never re-wrap my tattoos and to just clean them and then let them air dry. But yours look so great and you re-wrap them for 3 days. I think it's very interesting what different people/tattoo artists will recommend!
This girl is absolutely adorable. Super informative as well, her tattoos are a testament to her healing regimen. Thank you for the information!
I just wanted to let you know that I have used this routine for my traditional sleeve, and I have been getting so many compliments about how well they have healed and how bright they are. Just wanted you to know :)
Have you heard of saniderm aftercare bandages? It's a clear plastic film that is waterproof but still breathable unlike the plastic wrap. Makes the healing process much simpler, with the best quality results. I think you'd love it.
I've tried them. Pretty good
That's what I got for my first and only tattoo so far. It was simple and clean and reduced my healing process to almost nothing. So I'm going to stick with it for the rest of mine! I was lucky enough that my artist gave it to me otherwise I wouldn't have known about it
Dustin Hill I leave mine on for like 5 days, peel it off and it’s mostly healed, still flaky but no babying it.
Yeah, but for one of mine (a leg sleeve with heavy shading) I couldn't keep one of those on because I was bleeding on off.
I had that and took it off my tattoo was bleeding Wich is normal but it just collects the blood and gives it a pouch to sit in and eventually it leaked out and it didn’t dry until I took it off
I used to use lotion, but my artist recommended aquaphor... Best healing aid I've used. No scabbing for me, hardly any flaking. Great video. I am going to try your wrapping method.
_wildcosmia_ aquaphor tests on animals and she’s vegan
Don't
Aquaphor is Petroleum based and technically shouldn’t be used on tattoos as it clogs your pores and leaves no way for your tattoo to breathe and often can pull the ink out of your tattoo but everyone is different. I’m glad it worked for you though!
yo same i don’t scab up and hardly any peeling they stay as fresh as when i got them!
new tattoo today! time to watch this video again even though it’s my 8th tattoo I’ve healed with this method!
Same 👌 thanks qcknd! 🦆
I’ve watched your old tattoo videos for years. I’ve seen this one so many times lol just thought I’d let you know how much I love your stuff. It’s so calming to listen to your old TTT videos🖤
I have watched this video so many times always saying to myself that when i get a tattoo i will use this.. I finally built up the courage to get one and this method worked perfectly! My tattoo is healing perfectly! Thank you Qcknd!!
I am a picker and a scratcher and when I tell you when I got my first one, I had so much self control with the itching because I didn’t want to ruin my tattoo so i was pleasantly surprised but like i said, i didn’t want to ruin it. Healing was worst part for me compared to actually getting the piece on my side/ribs. I patted the crap out of my side though lol. I used aquaphor the first weekish and than once healed some more after that I used Cerve body/face lotion.
Also helps to have friends who have a lot of tattoos to get advice from! Big help!
i have the same routine!!! same brands and everything. also my first tattoo is a floral rib piece on my left side haha i had to double take when reading this.
This is the first tattoo care Video I checked out three years ago and the best.
I commented a while back and I just got my first two tattoos today, my tattoo artist told me to use coconut oil in the healing process. It is natural and just a little bit of it goes a long way. He said not anti bacterial soap but what I'm doing is diluting the soap with water when using it. Thank you so much for this video! Very helpful
hi, did you use the coconut oil as a substitution for the cream or lotion?
@@Imwinnnie You can use organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil as a sub for lotion. That's what my tattoo artist recommends. It's worked for me beautifully!
OMG!! I had another TH-cam account, and it was hacked and I've been trying to find you for like a year
i did rewrap my tattoo for the first two nights I'm glad i did because the stuff leaving my body wouldve been on my sheets otherwise and it would be really irritated
pretty much every single comment is about peoples experiences with tattoos and I'm here just like.... ive been watching her videos all day and I don't even want a tattoo
I have mild eczema, so I have to be really careful with my skin getting dry or oils getting trapped and that would usually be a problem when getting tattoos because stuff is getting lodged into your skin. Eczema doesn't stop me though, and I have had very considerate and kind tattoo artist help me with finding a good healing process for me.
I have 4 pieces, one I just got another the other day. My processes is basically cleaning it twice a day, morning and night. During the morning cleaning, starting after the first day, I add a little bit of Lubriderm lotion. On the forth day, I beginning only washing it in the morning and add lotion twice a day. Once it starts to get scabby, I add lotion when it bothers me. Also, when it itches I add lotion as well. Keeping it moisturized with a water based lotion helps from an eczema outbreak and helps the tattoo from scarring because an outbreak.
OH! Also, I make sure I wash my hands before every lotion application to insure no infection.
+Ashley Leezer Thanks for sharing, I have sensitive skin and eczema so I'm gonna have to pick up some lubriderm lotion
Of course everyone has different experiences but I never re wrap tattoos and what I have has healed amazingly, I just wash and moisturize them religiously. I poke fresh tattoos when they're itchy 😂 your tattoos are lovely!
My bandage comes off a few hours after I get the tattoo, I wash it when I shower and then use coconut oil on it for moisture. Not lotions.
+Joanna Dyndor (Dyndorian) I use aquaphor, but I'm sure coconut oil works amazingly! It probably smells good too.
I dreamt of this tattoo for more than 15 years. Finally got it, or at least the first half. It’s large and has a ton of color. My artist is a master. He tells me I can wrap it before I sleep up to five nights. It’s amazing and I will take all precautions to keep it perfect.
It’s feb 2018 and I’m coming back to this because I’m getting a tattoo tomorrow and next Saturday!!
bri2uty I'm doing the same, too! Getting my first tattoo on the 9th of May 😅
Just did one and do i wrap during days or she meant knly nights
Heh, my first was Feb 1st. Would have been my birthday on the 3rd, except the artist was booked then.
september 2020
My tattoo healing process is very similar to yours, except I don't use any paper towels and just wrap it for the first 2-3 nights (depending on how much the tattoo is oozing on the second day). After that, I just leave it to breathe and apply either Bepathen or natural lotions every time my tattoo feels tight and dry, washing accordingly when needed with cold/lukewarm water. During the itchy process, I just do my very best to ignore any itchiness and just rub lotion whenever possible. Thanks for the video!
I'm working on my 6th tattoo right now, it's my second really large piece, but it's also the second piece that's scarred in the tattoo. I've always been told to never rewrap my tattoos, but I know a lot of people swear by the method, so I think I'm gonna try it for my next piece or two in the next few months. I love tattoos so I'm really glad I found your channel!
i have always been told to not re wrap it.
Yes it's best to let as much air as possible to your new tattoo.
soddiepop I usually get a clean t shirt and lightly wrap in in that while Sleep for the first two nights.
You need to protect the skin from scraping/bacteria ecc ecc. It's way better to "not let it breathe" than to expose it
Mine wasnt wrapped at all....🤔
@@ca.r1334 it's very different from person to person and artist to artist. My artist said it's better to wrap it the first 5 days while at work since I shouldn't scrap it or something like that. And some people just keep it wrapped the first hours.
Oh my word, your sleeve is GORGEOUS!
Me: hey qcknd what's the best way to heal my tattoo?
Qcknd: *give it a good smack*
this might sound strange, but your bathroom makes me nostalgic for my childhood and visiting my grandparents in america (but in a good way)
anyways though, your leg tattoos are gorgeous and this video is great and i will definitely use these tips! :)
i wish i knew these tips before i got my first tattoo 2 years ago. my artist told me that i should immediately apply some kind of weird-ass cream over it and dont let it rest. i don't know how but cream made almost whole ink to come out and finally my tattoo ended up being light grey instead of solid black. Now as i am going to get inked again after past failure i will use these tips :D thank you a lot for sharing your experience and knowledge!
I'm watching the whole Public Record and Tatto Talk Tuesday Archive and it's being really helpful for me because I'm about to get my second tattoo, it's going to be big and the first one since I'm vegan. Can't wait to have it done! Thanks for all the advices and useful information you share. :)
your tattoos are flawless!! man I barley got my first tattoo and for sure my second tattoo I'm doing it your method loved the video and subscribed!
omg love it! gia rose is my tattoo artist! ceremony tattoo is the best place, that's amazing and a small world
+1987DaniMac it's such a cute little set up! Wish my livingroom looked like that place
me too! they are such great ppl there
+1987DaniMac did you just reply to your own comment?
um no Qcknd replied to my first comment so i just commented back to her?
Nice video ^^
I just got a brand new gorgeous tattoo. The way I heal it is I leave the saran wrap on it for 5 hours after getting it done. Then I remove the saran wrap, hop into the shower and rinse it with cool water after gently lathering it up with feminine intimate wash (it is completely neutral). After the shower I let it air dry for a couple of hours before applying a thin layer of tattoo cream on it. I wouldn't wrap it up at night, unless it was absolutely necessary. The tattoo needs to breath. :)
I like hearing that you moisturize when it itches too. I hear people say they just do it once in morning and once at night but I moisturize mine (I just use vitamin E after sun gel, like aloe) multiple times a day and I've always healed well :)
Yeah, my artist told me that after 3 or 4 days, I should moisturize my tattoo about once an hour
I rewatch this every single time I get tattooed
I have 14 Tattoos and what seems to working for me is if the Artist applies Tagaderm or similar tattoo film. The morning after I remove that, clean it well with antibacterial soap, and apply a new bandage. I leave that on for three days then wash again with antibacterial soap and follow up a few times a day with Aquafor. I have noticed the Tattoos are brighter and holding the ink better. Oh and I also blot with paper towels. If the Artist doesn't use Tegaderm I apply it after the first washing. Very nice video.
Awesome tips :) Just wanted to add that my tattoo artist recommended a dryer approach, less cream/lotion like when it flakes and stuff. Just washing it now and then but not applying cream often. And I think she's right because I did use too much cream once (non fragrance, natural) and blurred out a lot of my tattoo lines on one tattoo of mine. Maybe I did use it too soon though. But yeah dryer healing has been working very very well on my tattoos since I was given that advice
I thought so too! But it was weird because it only blurred after the first day, once I started healing it... the first day the lines were crisp and thin... is that normal? I had a hard time understanding why it happened how it did, and none of my other tattoos acted that way so I'm confused xD Thanks though, it probably is because of what you said
I now SWEAR BY Dream Cream by Lush! OMG! Got my second tattoo two weeks ago and it was pretty much healed in just over one week!
I have 11 tattoos now and I still come back to watch this video after I get the latest one. It's become a weird tradition haha
Here I am with 15!
Thank you, just got my first tattoo yesterday, 😻🥰 super excited
just got my second tattoo and i am soooo excited lol I used unscented antibacterial soap and lukewarm water to clean my tattoo and a very thin layer of aquaphor..I am a fast healer..my first tattoo started to peel the second-third day
What did u get tattooed
be careful with using soap, your tattoo doesn't really need it. rinsing with water is good enough
brandie bland have you ever wrapped your tattoo
well I don't know about these other people but her tats look fuckin amazing! so that means she did something right!
My artist told me to put a THIN amount aquifer to when I wrap it and to NOT put a paper towel bc that will dry it out and make scabs. I wrap it at night for like a week. Also use antibacterial soap the kind that it foamy pump is the best. Keep using Aquifer for the lotion. I have colored and black and gray lotions and they are really bright.
Lotion? I meant tattoos at the end there lol
The only things my artist told me to do was keep it clean and put coconut oil on it. I absolutely loved using just coconut oil. I only used food grade coconut oil because I felt like that was the most pure. Now, my watercolor tattoo is nice and vibrant!
Brooke Watson I used coconut oil for my first tattoo and it’s incredibly patchy and a lot of the ink came out during the healing process.
I love coconut oil for everything but tattoos.
Thanks , Actually I was thinking about using coconut oil on my next tattoo…
@@Crazygaucho62 It's wonderful. I've gotten more tattoos since that comment and I've used coconut oil for all of them. I just melt it and dab a light layer on. That way, the skin can soak it up without becoming suffocated and you don't have to worry about disturbing the skin from rubbing it in.
I use coconut oil it works very well plus has natural antibacterial properties never had a problem with it and I only get black ink no color I like the old fashioned look. or some people call jail house work I'm also type 2 diabetes but I try very hard to take care of my self and tattoos.
I used that too along with Hempz lotion, she and I use the same soap but she dilute hers down way to much I'm guessing she has sensitive skin. As I've commented on her other video each person has different healing genes in them
I've been getting tattoos for a few years now, I have nearly twenty, and yet I come back to this video every time I get a new tattoo. Today I got my big Van Gogh piece and I can't even express my excitement with words.
for anyone who lives in Maryland or the Delmarva, Lucky Bird is an award-winning shop and the artists are absolutely incredible (go see Flick or Shana!)
Your tattoos are absolutely stunning from what I can see!!
Yo thank you so much you were so straight forward your really good at explaining and giving the best information the quickest way
I wrap only at night for magic three days too but on second night I use clingfilm without absorbing material because it makes the skin sweat which helps remove that last bit of excess ink in surrounding pores and ink that hasn't penetrated deeply.
i do have one tattoo from years ago that I didn't cover and there is a small smudge of ink that somehow got under my skin next to my tattoo that has never been excreted or washed away, evidently I had huge pores that day and my skin drank it up. so annoyance following that experience is extra incentive with later tats to ensure all ink that will be rejected is elimated as early as possible!
I had my first tattoo done yesterday (so i have no clue) my tattoo artist told me to keep the 2ndskin on for 3 days and then 3-4 days i should put tattoo creme on it 2-3 times a day
I tend to wash it as soon as I get home, and I don't re-wrap it because it was recommended to me that you let it breathe. I use jojoba oil to keep it moist and pat that on every few hours for around 2 weeks. Also loose clothing is your friend - and don't sleep on where the tattoo is. (filed under reasons I won't get a back or a chest tattoo for a few years)
you're lucky to have only minimal swelling. anything on my legs or sensitive areas (inner bicep, wrist) swell like mad. i use saniderm for the first few days and it speeds the process of healing crazy amounts as well as reduces swelling within a day vs 3- days. cheers for sharing! your work looks great. all very well taken care of.
My tattoo artist uses derm shield is something similar to sandiderm but you keep it one for a full 5-7 days and it fast racks the healing because the plasma in liquid form actually helps with the healing of your skin and tattoo.
Love this video! Just got my first tattoo, and I really love your method on healing
Thank you for this video I have plenty of tattoos never really understood the RIGHT way, now my neck tattoos infected wish I saw this before 😩😩😩😩
Rewatching a bunch of these videos now that I got my first tattoo earlier today
If I don’t use saniderm, I just wash it as often as possible, never re wrap, and I use small amounts of Neosporin just to prevent/lessen cracking/peeling, and since doing this I haven’t really peeled since. (I’ve also only been doing this since I stopped getting color, so you may have a different experience. I have noticed a big difference in the way color and black and grey tattoos heal, simply because black and grey use more negative space requiring less saturation)
baby lotion/cream Is THE best for tattoos. Basically made for sensitive skin with no fragrance or nasties!!
is this true? cause easy money if it is
Yes it is. Literally everyone I know here in italy who has a tattoo has advised me to use baby lotion and it works. no fragrances and no harsh chemicals. it's usually really thick though so you don't want to put too much and too often. about 4/5 times a day in the first week and then you can use it more often.
In the UK tattoo shops sell nappy rash cream to go with the healing process 👍👍
Lilli Romer baby ointment A+D is what I use
Depends on the baby lotion some lotion marked as baby lotion is terrible ex Johnson and Johnson is sented and has crap ingredients
I wrap mine for the first couple of days, because I'm scared that it will get stuck to my bed sheet, or clothing, and to protect it from the elements. and in between wraps, after I wash them, I add a this. layer of aquaphor. after a couple of days, I use s non scented lotion, I usually use an aveeno product. and just keep it moisturized, and let if breath too until it heals. and don't pick scabs like you said! I have a tattoo I need to get touched up, because I picked a scab, and there is a hole in the color.
Honestly this was so helpful
I'm about to get my forearm tattooed (half sleeve) and I'm going to try this method to heal it😁
I actually use a beeswax based body moisturiser, it feels more like lip balm and very similar to the tattoo shop healing balm they all sell, it works really well for me! I do prefer a balmy consistency mainly because I already have super dry skin, and it is all natural
So are you not supposed to use bacitracin ointment the first few days you have a tattoo? Does not using ointment make it stay brighter? Loved this video; super informative! :)
My artist recommended straight up cocoa butter when not washing. It moisturizes it through all stages of healing and post-healing care. It's a little greasy but doesn't stain clothing
hustle butter and aveeno unscented lotion are really helpful!
Yay for this video! I was tattooed yesterday too! The Qcknd healing help came in just at the right time :)
ive been following you for years and i finally got my first tattoo so i can finally use this video 🥹
nice video cool kid!
I must say my healing process differs from yours..
i apply anti bacterial lotion the very next day... i also disapprove of putting paper towels around the tattoo overnight as this seems to bleed the tattoo of color. Nice video however... keep it up. :D
I do pretty much everything you said but I never wrap again after first wash. I just let it breath and apply a thin layer of a healing cream. Maybe 2 days after I use a good moisturiser until it's healed
How interesting! I have a few tattoos but I have never re taped my tattoo once I've washed it at home. Thanks so much for the advice 💕
I used burn cream. It speeded up the healing process. No scabbing and hardly any peeling. It healed in 2 weeks. And the burn cream stopped the sting from the fresh tattoo.
Very interesting. Here in Croatia is a bit different.
AFTERCARE:
1. Leave the covering on the tattoo for the first 2-5 hours, then to carefully remove it and gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and antibacterial soap PH 5.5
2. Apply a thin layer of Bepanthen (very greasy cream)
3. Repeat that cleaning process (washing-drying-applying cream) every 2-3 hours through 2 weeks. It is important that the tattoo be greasy always. Except when you sleep
4. First 6 days when you are going out or going to sleep, must wear transparent foil. Only transparent foil
5. Also, no activities next 6 days
6. No pool, sea, lakes, submerging in the water etc. next 2 weeks
Other things are same, more or less.
I've been loving your videos and loving how often you upload, btw :)
All I’m simply doing is washing it when I go to bed and that’s it. And that’s what my tattoo artist told me.
Thanks for the tips!! My tattoo healed beautifully and its been my least itchy experience💖
I wish i would have thought about putting paper towls on it overnight i always hate how wet they are in the morning. & scratching around the tattoo really helped me relieve the tattoo a lot plus i used lubriderm to keep it moisturized. Oh and also where did you get that soap? I always just use what soap is availale
You should definitely let your tattoo breathe, dont wrap it back up
this is what i do also..you want it to start to dry after you remove the bandage , while cleaning it as well with a rinse ....Then I apply skinfix after 24 hours and rinse to keep from drying up.. Ps. using cold water after the tattoo to rinse will close your pours and keep ink from running out.. that's my method
Could you check out my new tattoo on my channel 😏 I'm now in the process of healing
i don't wrap mine either, unless i have to go out. i also start moisturizing it the next day, with coconut oil. everyone has something that works for them
Your tattoo is an open wound, you shouldn't put oil on it. Healing takes approx 2 weeks, so you should use coconut oil after those 2 weeks.
I use coconut oil instead of unscented lotion (which still burns so bad). It works amazingly.
Just got my first tattoo. Thanks for the advice.
Where i live the tattoo artist i go to recently got this patch you wear for 4 days and once you take it off its 90% healed..
When I got my first tattoo, I put saniderm on it and didn’t touch it for the first 3-4 days and then I washed it twice a day with antibacterial soap and applied some non scented lotion on it, for the next couple of weeks
I use coconut oil! I got my first tattoo 3 years ago and I use it now to keep it bright. The rest of my tattoos I honestly don't care about (and I can't reach one of them), so I don't put oil on those ones. I'm planning on getting some of them covered up sometime in the nearish future.
about a month ago I got my first tattoo, and I used arnica cream instead of lotion, it seemed to work fine. I healed pretty quickly, and my tattoo healed well.
I got my first tattoo yesterday and I have no liquid coming out at all. But thanks a lot for your videos, they are very helpful!
Doesn't wrapping in cling wrap overnight promote sweat and moisture buildup? (Which are both bad for new tattoos)
100% correct. I have two full sleeves, two pieces on one leg, my entire right knee and lower leg covered and not once has an artist told me to re-wrap it. In fact they actively discouraged it as cling wrap promotes heat and moisture, two ideal breeding grounds for nasty bacteria
When I got my tattoo he told me over and over again that he doesn't recommend keeping the plastic wrap on more than an hour or two due to the humidity
thanks for this, in a few years I hope to get two black X's on my hands and this information will be put to use!
I have had lots of success using Lubriderm unscented lotion. I also tried Lush's Dream Cream which definitely felt awesome too.
Have you ever used tattoo goo cream that comes in the little tube?? Also is it different healing a color piece from a black and white piece?
This helped me figure out a good routine for my healing method. I just got my first one and I am on day three now. I've been moisturizing it with unscented lotion and aloe every couple hours to keep it from scabbing which has been working so far. I've also been wearing loose pants/shorts (my tat is on my thigh). I've also been washing it gently with a washcloth every morning and night. Hopefully this might help someone with their's.
It´s very interesting to hear how others handle it :) I`ve got 6 tattoos and I washed them 3 times a day with clear water only, afterwards I put Bepanthen on it. The wrapping thing doesnt work for me though. I remove it like 2 hours after I got my tattoo and I do not put it back on. Tried it once and it started to hurt at night. So I let them breathe and try not to cover it with blankets the first couple of nights. All my tattoos healed very well :)
my method of healing is exactly the same. no soap just water and bepanthen 2/3 times a day! my artist said I could take the clingfilm off as soon as I got home.. I kept it on all evening just to be safe but it made it hot, sweaty and painful so I let it breathe and it was so much better. on day 11 atm for my 2nd tattoo and it's nearly fully healed :)
I wanted to ask if you did the whole wrapping thing for your small tattoos like your little "xo" on your left knee
You had a great. Video. I did like you said. In my opinion. Before tatoo. I exfoliated my skin . Removed the saran wrap. After. Tattoo. Cleansed tatoo. Used Elixir healing balm. * Clean Paper towel. Glad. Press and seal wrap * I did the wrap like u said for 3 nights. Now I use. Elixir healing balm *and elixir tatoo oil*on day 4 every day I have no flaking. Scabbing or itchiness. ** It is. 7 days. Your idea is the greatest. No ink on the sheet. Either. Your. Video is the best I have seen. Thank you These are. My. Opinions. Only.
For lotions i just use organic pure coconut oil, works great
"stay out of stress"
me, with anxiety; fuck
Do you use Lush Dream Cream on your tattoos? I'm in the process of healing my first, not quite at the lotion stage, but I know it does have a scent, so just wondering if it was okay before I go out and by a new lotion! Also thanks so much for taking the time to make this video! it's so thorough and simple, really helpful!
+Abbie C. I use Dream Cream on my tattoos after the 3rd day!
Been getting tatted for over a decade and have always "dry healed". However, this is not dry healing just for the simple fact that she keeps it covered for 3 days. That's way too long of a time to prolong scabbing, which can only happen with oxygen exposure. At the end of the day the way you choose to heal your tattoos solely depends on how your skin naturally heals, which varies person-to-person.
The trick is making sure to keep your scabs most as they naturally peel.
I personally do not recommend using produce lien A&D to do this and agree that unscented locations are best with constant application. I've personally taken a liking to A&D cream instead of the ointment and all of my tattoos are still extremely pigmented...
I recently found the perfect tattoo studio for me and it's even in a city near me! I might get my first tattoo soon, even though it's a wanna do by the artist and I never thought I might get one, but it seems like she made it with me in her mind
hey qcknd! i just got a tattoo today for friday the thirteenth, and am going to try to heal it this way!
day one update: its really annoying having plastic wrap on my leg, but so far the tattoo is good! one more day after today for the wrap, excited to get this shit off!
How did you sleep for your calf tattoos?
after how many days of using ointment like awuaphor when would you switch to lotion?
My tattoo artist told me to not let it scab and to not wrap it in Saran Wrap and to not swim for 2/3 weeks after getting the tattoo but I'm going to try your method.
So you keep your tattoo wrapped through out the day as well?
Not just night?
I did my first tattoo 4 days ago and I think no need to wrap it after the day you make it, just the first night is enough, and keep it breathing, I wash in the morning and before I sleep, I also use healing cream 3 times a day, seems good so far, but a bit itchy
