So basically, this was a demonstration of how NOT to apply the sealant, Cause damn that looked liked way too much. Also, I'd like to know if you completely assemble the part before it cures or partially assemble then fully torque after curing, I've heard different procedures.
Agreed 1000% Jesus. But trust me.... they are sure that what’s in this video won’t cause a failure.... unless it’s the sealing surface for oil pickup between an oil pan and block lol
It happened to my first car. Wasnt fun, the mechanic was a family friend, I never spoke to him again after that day nearly 20 yrs ago and I use to see him all the time for the first 15. Common sense isn't too common, apparently it's like finding a crisp 100$ bill in the washing machine.
Some of the shit I’ve seen at work on 6.0 and 7.3 Powerstrokes.... holy shit. I’ve seen multiple multiple tubes of silicone used to seal high pressure oil pump bed plates on 6.0’s. I’m talking the inside of the engine around the pump like alllll you can see is silicone leading down the back plate of the engine down to where the down tubes from the pump run down and forward to the branch tubes for the high pressure oil over fuel rails. And the engine DIDNT come in for a failure related to that silicone, it was in for a cracked piston etc from some junk tune they ran way too long. The point is, with this shit you can get lucky or VERY UNLUCKY, which is why I personally prefer gaskets whenever applicable.
haha iv noticed this in just about every single video where a guys squeezin out permatex, but its too funny to hear the guy say to lay "make sure u lay n 8th inch bead" while theyre showin the guy use up a whole container on one part layin a foot wide bead lol :p i think thats probably just about the most iv seen somebody slather on somethin lol
I bought a new oil pan and the area of the oil pan that mates with the engine block is painted a nice glossy black. Do I have to remove the black paint to metal for the Grey rtv to work?
I would! wire wheel on a drill bit, gget down to the metal and clean it with brake cleaner spray, then youre ready for 15lbs of Permatex like the guy in this video lmao
Here's one for ya, how do you keep the Permatex from going bad after opening? This stuff isn't super expensive but it would be nice to use what's left in the tube.
Assuming you are talking about the tube... 1. Take a small piece of Saran Wrap, cover the open tip of the nozzle loosely 2. Tape the wrap around the nozzle. 3. Barely extrude some of the sealer out of the tip, filling the loose wrap (loose enough to get a 1/4" circle over the tip) and take the tube out of the gun. The stuff in the wrap may skin over but the remaining material (under the 1/4" trapped in the wrap) in the nozzle and tube will be "new".
After prying the dried up stuff out of top to use a second round i stuck a lead free pencil through the top. By lead free i mean the lead tip was removed prior to use.
When using a gasket remover doesn't have much in it and squeezes out too fast. Only need a little bit at a time. Also the brush that comes with is falls off easily so its better to buy a separate brush even if its a very cheap dollar brush to be thrown away.
Nothing adds enthusiasm like finding a little orange Permatex in a priceless 911S camshaft oil sprayer- Those no longer available S camshafts now need to be reground. Getting them out requires an engine drop. All because some idiot knew-it-all. Never allow gobs of goo to run around your crankcase.
Could you put fluid and drive your car in 12 hours? 15 Mile Drive. I don't want to put the stuff on it's going to leak or something I have to find a way to get to work
I used permatex black adhesive silicone sealant and waited 14hrs ...I then ran the car for 15min then drove around the block for about 5 minutes then the engine started smoking a lot .,.would this be because the sealant has not cured yet?
might be like 2 years late, but yes. 24 HRS cure time. I did the exact same thing and my tranny pan leaked. had to re-do the whole thing, and left the car dry for a whooole day.
@@gimmetaco2037 the amount on this oil pan would do 15 pans+.the reason they do this is to sell more product, there is absolutely no other reason. this one "piss poor" installation would absolutely blow the engine due to the oil pickup screen being completely plugged and obliterated with loose silicon

I came here to learn the proper way to use you products and then you have somebody blast shit into the oil pan to probably cause blockage of the oil pickup. Great
what a joke of a video, way to much product is applied on the worked example. looks like the sales reps haven't got a clue, just reading from the paper with no real world experience.
Don’t you love how they pan back over the excessive bead as if that is the right amount for the application of the product. UGH NOOOOO! It should resemble the shape and size of a cylindrical pencil lead as if pulled out of the pencil and laid down on the pairing surface. 🤦♂️
Well, if you follow this guide they're going to sell shit loads! BUY STOCK NOW!! I have never seen such an over application of a liqu... ummm well there was this one video... poor girl.
Me : Is that enough material?
Permatex : MORE! MORE! MORE!
"Don't apply too much material"
Proceeds to apply too much material.
worst bead I've ever seen
I was thinking the same thing... Glad I'm not alone. Not sure why they had Stevie Wonder apply the RTV there...

"Hey, your video sucks! But I was wondering if you could help me with this..."
🤣🤣🤣
dont let it skin over.
@@seanbouker dont let it skin over. finger tighten and then torque down to proper torque figures after.
“Careful and consistent application” 😂 I thought this was a joke at first
"Don't apply too much material" holy crap that's way too much. Half that will end up blocking up the oil pickup haha
That's what I was thinking...damn!
yeah kinda ridiculus for the company to have a video like this one
Yumm! I love decorating cakes too! 🍰
Good Lord! That is way too much application of material.
decorating a cake this guy

Never a such thing as never yo much gasket maker no leak is what u want 🙈
For those saying they haven't seen someone lay that much gasket maker before, well now you have 😁
He said 1/8” then applied 1/4-3/8” of material!!!
🤣

They need to edit this video on the "how to apply" RTV
Can I have a little oil pan with my gasket of bead please?
Damn. Had to watch twice. Couldn’t break my focus on whatever that is on Curtis’s chin.
I love how he says don't over apply because it may squeeze out or go in and they put a fuck ton on lol. SMH

I'm interested in becoming a distributor of your products in Guyana 🇬🇾 if you do not already have one

great video, very clear and detailed explanation. Thanks!

I asked on information for John. Deer GT 235. Tram

yes
Which one is for upper oil pan to the bottom of a cast iron engine block ?
Black rtv
Is this a fake account trying to give Permatex a bad name?

Yes. The smoke was from the leaking oil. You MUST wait 24 hours.

the right stuff is awesome
Id rather wait the 24 hours unless dire emergency
You're going to have a lot of customer service calls on that number of they apply the amount that was applied in this video ahahaha
Geez, All that extra will fall off and seal his driveway also!
Ok. Once I apply the permeatex how long do I wait to mate the 2 surfaces together??
Msp-Protege exactly, it is a worthless how to video.
@@justinkemeter damn right! that's exactly what i was waiting for but hey here we are...

Am i the only one who struggles in squeezing the tube when laying a bead?
to make things easier get a gasket when possible no need to add gasket sealer to most gaskets its not meant to be like that oh and no mess
Thank you very much.
Silicone has to be inside the hole not outside 😂.now thit car is going to leak for the screws. Good job 😂
Seriously wtf hahahaha unbelievable
this wont gonna leak but parts of gasket may end up inside the engine !

What should I use for my 2000 Dodge 2500 rear differential cover?
permetex black or permetex sealer for gear oil.
I like how he said 1/8 bead yet it looks like 3/8 lol
Well I just had this put on my car and it's still leaking
Did you follow the instructions? hand tighen let it cure for 1 hour and then tighter to specs . After 24hours should be ok to use
that's too much of the sealer
U want some oil pan with that
Looks like permetex don't know how to apply a bead
Hes gone and dorped it all on in there. The sump will be brimmed sith rtv.😂
I know you want to sell the product but don't use a whole tube to do a sump, if i saw anyone using that amount i would kick there ass.
HOLLY COW THAT WAS WAAYY TOO MUCH BUD 😱💀😅
dont use to much then shows 3 times too much being used.
what a joke of a video, way to much product is applied on the worked example. looks like the sales reps haven't got a clue, just reading from the paper with no real world experience.
do not use a wire brush.
