    I got the same tamper and non-pressurized filter basket while enjoying the same experience with a $120 Mr Coffee.
    My machine broke and I want to be able to use my stuff.
    This is perfect!
    Thank you so much for this.
    If your keen,
    Look into Sboly conical burr grinder Amazon. I got it on sale for $59, modified it to grind finer for espresso and adding a lock nut to lock the grind size in place.

      Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, I have head about the screwdriver hack as well. I am now using a Lido 3 and BPlus Apollo hand grinder for my coffee. I actually enjoy hand grinding my coffee every morning. But I know it could be very tired and exhausted when you need to grind for multiple guests.

      Yeah i like hand grinding but its a little different when you want to use an aeropress a couple times or 3 double shots. I figured $20 on top of what i already paid was good deal for an electric grinder lol

      Thank you, Tony. To be honest, the grinder is capable of producing espresso grinds, but the consistency is not good. I later switched to manual grinders which give me much better results. But in short, yes, it's able to make espresso grinds.

    How many seconds does the single and double shot take to give an accurate taste of espresso ??

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Back then, I learn from people saying count from the moment the pump is turn on, and the ideal extraction is about 25-30 seconds for double shot. But I found these days, more people use the "first drip of espresso" as a starting point and aim for around 23 seconds for double shot. I do not have much experience pulling single shot but I know preparation for single shot is not just "everything in half" of double shot.

    • @capitalc0524

      Laci Márkus you do have to flatten out the basket to fit on the EC155 portafilter. Just do it slowly and with patients. I got my Silvia V1 steam wand from EBay. It's a little difficult to find the V1 I know, but I personally think it's much better than the V2

    Thank you for the video. You used EC 155, Gaggia Classic, Pavone Lever.
    I have a question. Can simple DeLonghi coffee makers give the same espresso as Gaggia and Pavoni?
    If you use a bottomless portafilter, a basket without pressure, and a good coffee grinder like Lido and freshly roasted beans

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      moro 3d good question. In my experience, the EC155 will give the weakest taste over all three. The Gaggia gives better, ricer taste than the EC155. LaPavoni is the best over all but require a little skills and work to make great shot.

    Hi, great video! I just bought a 2nd hand EC155 a few days ago. I am trying to figure out how you use a pressurized basket. Do you just remove the Delonghi ong, and get the La Pavoni basket just like that?

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment! I recommend you search for depressurize portafilter for EC155. You could get better taste espresso and a lot more fun with the depressurize portafilter. However, if you go that route, you need a good grinder that can grind fine enough for it to work. For the La Pavoni basket, you need to cut the bottom part of the portafilter off and flatten the basket lip for it to work. If you enjoy modify and upgrading your EC155, this two mod is a good starting point.

      I don't know if there are some new option out there now, but that's how I started with. I bought the EC155 and did the steam wand mod. Another great option is to get a second hand Gaggia Classic, descale the boiler, and do the same steam want mod if you don't mind it's used. Gaggia Classic will also give you more features and little better tasting too.

    ok but why u use 155 when u have gaggia available? also, someone mention you also have pavoni? but I don't see it in video...which coffee machine you recommend for the best shot and least money? i mean, is the difference in shot quality worth to invest in either gaggia and lapavoni over the ec155 or the difference is not so much?

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Martin Kulik if only comparing about taste, La Pavoni lever machine will gives the best taste of espresso if used properly. But, This machine takes a lot more work for making one shot and not meant to be making multiple shot at once. However, I think Gaggia Classic is the most convenient, and EC155 is most cost friendly for people to try out how is it feel like to make espresso or cappuccino at home.
      The reason I recommend EC155 to people just starting out is that often time ppl can't sure if they like to spend 5-10mins to make a drink at home. I have friends come over and told me that the amount of time for one coffee drink is too long or too much work (La Pavoni) . So it is good to invest in small money to try out to see if you truly like this home Batista idea.
      The second reason why I don't recommend La Pavoni is that I think coffee tasting is see what similar to wine tasting. A beginner will slowly develop or discover more taste notes and details in the beans as they drink more and more coffee. La Pavoni is the answer for myself that I found after many cups and shot and I believe it fit my coffee style the most.
      Sorry for such long reply. Hopefully this could answer your question

    Great video! I've been playing with an EC 155 for a little bit. How many grams does the new basket hold? Is the upgrade to the Gaggia Classic worth it? Thanks.

    • @capitalc0524
      @capitalc0524  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      NathanAndShelly Donahoe I think the EC155 is a really good machine to try out to see if you like it or not. Gaggia Classic is more close to the real thing since you will get a 58mm basket. Also, the pressure release value in the Classic is very useful function to have. If you are willing to spend the money, the Classic is a very good choice for upgrade. You could use it a while until you find what you really want for the next machine then sell it on EBay. I sold my Classic with the same price that I bought it with. All in all, both EC155 and Gaggia Classic are good beginner machine if you know how to use it ( especially after mods)

      Relax... First, thanks for stopping by. I realize that statement is a little bit misleading and confusing. Back then, I have heard many people are describing this machine as "not meant to be fix" kind of machine. I myself also did a descale video about it and. Later found that this machine is able to descale. I also used their descale solution for EC 155. I guess what I meant to say is that when they design this machine, they try to save every penny to put together a espresso machine while delivering great quality. So, repairable may not be their primary concern. However, I still found this machine is fairly service able, and easy to repair. Thsts why it's still my No.1 beginner machine still today
