  • I found (so I thought) the ultimate productivity tool in March 2021, and immediately fell in love. But, I realized after using it for a while, that I made a BIG mistake with it. 😡😡

    WHO IS ANDREW MOON, aka the Orange Nomad 🍊 ⏬❓
    I’m a serial entrepreneur who has launched and run several successful businesses of my own since age 8. After running a successful technology company (aka #MSP) of my own for 10 years, which I sold in 2014, I founded Orange Nomad to help MSPs, small businesses and entrepreneurs bridge the gap between strategy and execution.
    I love helping the ’underdog.’ I’ve built my business from nothing and know how hard it can be to start and grow a business when you’ve got no money, no help and the world on your shoulders. I help small businesses like ourselves: members of the Fortune 5,000,000. With the Fortune 5,000,000 we have a real shot at making a real impact. That's more satisfying work. I’m proud to help my clients learn how to build a "calm company". Calm is family first. Calm is more independence. Calm is sustainable practices for the long term. Calm is joyful. Running a calm company is a choice.

      You just described the exact process I went through with clickup. I'm in love with it again after restructuring and trying to simplify everything from the complete mess I had.

      I think it's a common issue/obstacle we face with pretty much every modern digital "productivity" tool. I fell a few times to a similar traps the past decade, when trying to set up the "ultimate system" in Evernote/Toodledo/Todoist/RememberTheMilk/ChaosTheory/Ticktick (my current tool, the past 4 years), and yes, Clickup as well. I did enjoy what Clickup has to offer, but it was too sluggish at the time (2 years ago) and suffered from performance issues.
      Back to the topic - it's not a "clickup" problem. It's info-age, 21st century, meta-world problem :)

    So funny…I’m on a similar journey, loving ClickUp, realizing I’ve WAY over-engineered it, and have been following Layla, Tiago, et al trying to figure out how to implement the Second Brain stuff w/ CU. Your message came at a great time (I’m only a couple months at most into CU) to help me figure things out to make it all work. 🙂

      So happy to help Christine! Lots more coming with 3.0 due to launch on Tuesday this week!!!

    Been there. I'm just returning to ClickUp after a 6 month sabbatical, just like you. I'm in the process of simplifying ClickUp now.
    I'm weary of TH-camrs acting like they've figured out everything about every app. Thanks for making this video.

      Awesome to hear Joshua! Yeah, I plan on doing some more videos about how I've been simplifying too. Love to see what you come up with too.

  • @Abel.mora9

    One of the first concepts Layla explains to all new ClickUp beginners is exactly how to simplify your space/folder/list system, and precisely breaks down how to avoid the scenario described in this video. Second brain seems like a cool and practical concept though

    • @OrangeNomad
      @OrangeNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are so right about Layla. I wish I found her videos much sooner than I did. Could have saved so much time.
      I think you'll dig the Second Brain Abel.

    My company started to consult for it but I noticed that they are over-engineering it to a point that it discourages those new to it. It is a setup split between engineering and business spaces that work and operate in different ways. These tips are very useful to me since I am supporting the development and implementation across the company.

    • @OrangeNomad

      I’m so glad you found it useful my friend. Best of success in your implementation. Let me know how it goes.

    New subscriber!
    As you have considerable experience with many other task/project management tools, I was wondering how ClickUp compares to them in terms of performance and reliability. I came across some comments mentioning issues such as glitches, slow loading, and downtime.
    On first glance, I really liked the features, design, and pricing of ClickUp. However, I am unsure if switching from Asana to ClickUp would be a good decision as speed and reliability are some of the main reasons I am an Asana user. Moreover, I heard that the mobile app's user experience wasn't great.
    If these were just past issues that have been resolved, I would be more than happy to switch to ClickUp without any hesitation.

      @OrangeNomad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I love the UI of some things in Notion. It looks like ClickUp 3.0 will be a more Notion-like UI change as well. Still waiting on some of the features to drop so I can compare and make more vids.

      Thanks for the interest Stephanie. I'm waiting for 3.0 to drop on my account before I do the full walk through. There are some very cool things coming in 3.0 that I can't wait to implement and share. I'm on the waitlist, and hope to have it sometime this month. They said on last week's Launch that some will get it this month, but general rollout will be in April.

    Jumped in this video wanting to find something to dislike but I did not find anything. Great video, you've got a very soothing narration, expressed really great points, shared good references, and I have to give tons of respect to older folks not scared to venture into the digital landscape. Most people your age are not this tech savvy and wont touch this area of personal development and growth with a 9 foot pole. Looking forward to seeing if you share your take on a clickup second brain further.

    Howdy Andrew, did you test/use Cloze at all? Are they different platforms in nature? I felt like Close was trying too hard to be a CRM.

    • @OrangeNomad
      @OrangeNomad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael: No, I have never tried Cloze. From a quick peek, it looks like they are more of a marketing automation/CRM tool than a project management/productivity tool. I use High Level as our marketing automation tool. It pairs nicely with ClickUp IMHO.

    They're all bad AF! It's like none of the engineers is using their own product, otherwise they'd know how bad they are. Evernote lacks text anchors until this day after being on the market for 20 years. ClickUp is slow AF, Notion is so clunky and has terrible usability, Monday doesn't offer copy pasting of jpeg, it's like there are no good knowledge management products. Until there are, I'll never pay for any of this sad sideshow and use them for what they offer for free. I'm so frustrated.
