I think those simple puzzles would be amazing for children. It would teach how to interact with objects in complex ways and would also help 3d spatial thinking. I volunteer at the children's Discovery museum in San Jose and I could definitely see those be an activity for children. Great job Devin!

I made a wood puzzle cube once... it took the brightest mind in the classroom to solve, maybe I'll 3d-print it one day
Amazing stuff! Really elegant puzzles and your prints are so accurate.
A lot of these would be great to put in a daycare or something related for kids to learn with. I particularly like the arch one because it baffles me that stone arches work and would make a great teaching tool.
This is so cool - I just printed out my own 3x3x3 puzzle cube for an engineering course I'm taking. I love the stand you made - might have to steal the idea :)

I downloaded the files for the simple 5X5 cube but I did not see how to set up for the shell and infill that keeps the print time down. One piece says over 3 hours to print. With 5 pieces that's a long print .

5-10% infill and 2 shells should be fine, you can get that print time down!

I’m just getting in to learning CAD with a focus of designing my own 3D prints. I’m interested in functional prints, parts for things, etc…. Even so, this is incredible. Great designs Devon!!!

tamalaursa whatever you do, don't buy a cheap one. I bought the anet a8 and have had nothing but problems. Do yourself a favor and pay for a reputable brand, even if it's a smaller model.

@TheDogWithGoggles I brought the XYZPrinting Da Vinci Jr, and it just works. The problem is that the size and lack of ABS/Hotbed *is a real problem.* Do yourself a favor, and get one thats bigger then 15cmX15cmX15cm. I got a Prusa clone, and after some fiddeling, it works quite well.
I recommend CR10s
@@bigchooch4434 I got a geeetech prusa clone after my XYZPrinting became too small and,after a few hours of troubleshooting, it not only prints better, but was cheaper and bigger. If you dont like hours of fiddeling then dont get a cheap printer. If you dont mind, go ahead.

That green packing problem looks absolutely fiendish, how long did your first solve take?
I saw this video again on a larger screen and I immediately saw that the "perfectly fitting" pieces appeared quite loose in their nice boxes (cases).

Ive done that pyramid puzzle but with six pieces! It took me about 45 minutes to complete
A really neat video Devin, intrigued by the cube you couldn't dis assemble due to the close tolerances...it means you did make a one way assembly..with no glue etc .that can't be pulled apart...see what I mean? Does this depend on the joints shapes, shapes plus tolerances? Etc...waiting for my Alfawise U10 to be sent to me and then I can start printing! Thanks Laurie, New Zealand
The tolerances were really tight and then the individual layers lock together.

Great video! I'd like to know how you made the stands for the cube puzzles to sit on? It's not just a matter of 2 rotations of 45deg each to get the cube sitting on a corner, so any help/guidance would be appreciated! Have you made the design files for those available?
I didn't rotate the cube, I just designed the stand around the cube and then used the 'settle' tool in 3D Builder to correctly orient the stand. They are available for download on MyMiniFactory combined with the puzzle cubes themselves

You should acetone smooth some of them just to finish the look, namely the animal puzzles, the jail guy and the cubes.
Maybe you could also coat the gold cube in a thick varnish so that it can’t move and ends up as more of an ornament.

Any chance on some info regarding how you curved the surface for the children's puzzles? I printed the fish and cow and I'm really interested in making him some more of this type. I use sketchup to model stuff, but am always open to trying new things. thanks in advance.
Lots of fillets in Fusion 360! Perhaps I could do something similar someday for a tutorial

I shared the contest in a puzzle building group I'm in on Facebook and I think there'll be some very good puzzles that'll be entered. I'm still thinking about entering. BTW do we have to show the puzzle as a fully working 3d printed model or just the CAD/STL files?

Do you have to print your design or can you design it and then post the stl?
Just the STL is okay if you don't have a printer, but it should be printable!
