    Here in NY where my friend started a group in which we're printing face shields for hospitals and group homes. Around here they're happy to have access to ANY form of PPE! which is in very short supply in these parts recently. For my prints it's not a sterile environment per se but I do avoid touching the finished product with my bare hands, always making sure to use alcohol to clean off any purple glue residue if used. They sterilize upon receipt/use anyway

    Found your suggestions very helpful. I am currently trying to decide whether to purchase a Laser engraver or a 3D printer. The laser engraver was winning because it is easier to envision practical uses(and $aleable). Your video is tipping the scale in favor of the 3D printer. And yes the tape & super glue trick is golden.

    • @RemainIndoors
      @RemainIndoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yeah, I will say as somebody who has never owned a laser engraver, but has owned many 3d printers, it seems like you may have an easier time selling stuff with a good engraver, but if you have some good ideas, and are okay at 3d modeling, you can create pretty much anything you want with a 3d printer.
      I guess the way I look at it, 3d printers can facilitate manufacturing reasonably good quality items if you have good ideas, but engravers can modify higher quality items that people may want to buy with less effort. It all comes down to what interests you the most.

      haha Thanks. I have a couple different printers. All of the prints in this video were printed on my Prusa MK2.5, CR-10 and Monoprice Maker Select v2. if I was going to recommend any of those, it would probably be the Prusa. The other two printers are pretty heavily modified, since they didn't have great quality straight out of the box. But there are cheaper 3d printers that do have pretty good quality without the need for mods. it really just depends on what you're looking to spend.

    • @Matt-dd1zr
      @Matt-dd1zr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Remain Indoors Thanks for the answer!
      Is the prusa beginner friendly?
      The printer I’m going to buy can be more expensive (max €700 or so).
      I was looking at an ender 3 pro at first and saw people doing upgrades to it wich made the printer really good, but I kinda want a printer that’s ready to print out of the box with good print quality but with the possibility to upgrade the printer.
      Are the dimensions on the prusa big enough for “bigger” projects like printing small rockets of figurines?
      What would you recommend?

    About the brass nozzle thing. My hot ware supply lines has brass and even lead fittings. It's more about the time the water spends in contact with the lead. Brass however even heated is not dangerous

    Excellent video...RE Wood Most domestic hardwoods are foodsafe apart from the obvious yew and laburnum but to be on the safe side I'd stick to traditional treen varieties such as the general fruitwoods (plum, pear, apple etc) and sycamore and beech for wood in contact with moist or damp bare food. I'd also avoid using spalted timber though, just good sound wood.

  • @evanbrown6923
    @evanbrown6923 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason people think brass nozzles aren't safe is because brass can contain small amounts of lead. most of it of course is trapped inside the solid brass and will never see the light of day. And although some may remain on the surface the amount of lead and the contact area of the plastic on the nozzle is negligible. The majority will probably be expelled just by running a few centimeters of filament through. I'd be more concerned about heavy metals from canned tuna.

    Cookie cutters are supposed to cut the dough before cooking.
    And wood is usually treated with oils that clog those pores, so they are easier to clean.
    So maybe give them a spray with food safe lacquer?

    The reason wood can be used as dishes and utensils is because they are made from specific types wood that has antimicrobial properties. Basically the wood repels or kills any bacteria left over after washing properly. That's why good restaurants use wooden cutting boards over plastic or stone ones. That and they are easier on knives lol
