@@SlugginAround Unless the pin brick is also mounted further to the side by 1 stud.... which wouldn't be visible from that angle, making it possible that is the case.
@@Thinginator No, this actually *is* visible from this angle, as you can see only one Technic hole obscured on that side, whereas when you move the bridge over one, you can see one full Technic hole and one obscured one. (You can actually see that visible on the thumbnail of this video) Don't worry - we tested this hypothesis! 👍
Seeing the bridge flick like that after the pin is removed makes me think that they might have had it as something like a "gust of wind" that suddenly moves the bridge and flings our brave adventurers off into the chasm below!
This channel is the definition of a slug crawling across a keyboard. Its not as fast as a cat, so the videos sometimes take a little while but you still never know what to expect next 😂
Baseplate warping scares me so much. My Flying Ninjas Fortress (6093) came to me with some of the gigantic green bricks warped. I wonder if it’s from the design of the set deforming the part over decades or if it’s just a damaged part some kid stepped on or something.
Chances are, since this is Lego during a time for finding out their baring out in the toy market, really didn't know entirely what they were doing and mostly going by possible good ideas.
This is so in the weeds but I love it! Those poor baseplates, though! I keep forgetting to comment because my wife got into your videos, too, and now we watch them together on the TV, which is severely lacking any form of keyboard.
Now that you make the warping evident in the original photo, I definitely think you are right with your solution! What a missed opportunity with this set design to offset the pinpoint and actively engage the trap upon removal of the pin. Are some of the minifigure hands upside down in the preliminary picture?!? 😱
Unrelated to the video but there is something about the drawn slug just....THERE in the thumbnails on this channel that just makes me giggle. I love it.
Thank you for talking about the LEGO sets R.R. Slugger's second channel Sluggin' Around. Thank you so much for talking at length about parts 2549, 4519, 3701 (x2!!) and 4589. Great content. Liked and subscribed. Keep 'm coming.
There are so many equivalents to this lack of photographer care in Transformers product photography today, which people will no doubt be looking back on in a similar way in decades to come! Some are so bad that it's frustrating to know a professional was paid an exponentially higher salary than you to do the job genuinely worse than you would have.
So true! I think it's easy for us fans to assume that everyone working with these toys are just as big of fans of them as we are; in reality, it's just a job to some of them. 😅
It's possible that the warping was intentional for the purpose of photography, since the warping sorta replicates the flexible nature of such bridges in reality. Photographer was either creative or didn't know what they were doing lol.
I would assume the bridge is also mounted one hole over on the temple side so that when you pull the pin, gravity makes the bridge swing down. It never made sense to me for the pin to be in the middle on the official set as gravity keeps it upright that way and you have to tip the bridge yourself. Therefore, it makes sense to me that they at least tried it that way during development. Not sure why the hole is dark in the photo, but it could also be a black pin with axle or just a black axle, which would let the bridge swing freely with the pin pulled out.
In the picture, we see the bridge is definitely mounted in the centre hole on the temple side, so unfortunately that isn't the case here. However, I did test out that idea during our investigation and it was sadly underwhelming - the bridge's centre of gravity is too low to swing out fully on its own. 😭
This is such a fun second channel, I love it! It's like we're just sitting down and chatting after the "lecture" that is the main video, if you will. Glad to see this mystery is solved!
That may explain why some of those bridge pieces are warping. Is it also true that Johnny Thunder and company found a large uncharted uranium mine, a shapeshifting predatory alien assimilator... or a teenage yeti with a Slavic accent?
Looks like the photographers and the set designers didn’t communicate properly before the photo was taken. The photographer(s) obviously aren’t LEGO people if they put the axle in like that while building/rebuilding the model for the photoshopt
I've just watched your videos and I love them! Your choice of the slug as your avatar is good, I always found them to be adorable. In case you see a sudden influx of viewers and are wondering why, Solar Sands V2 made a video on you if you are not aware. Do you have an opinion on Manic Miners?
Thank you! For sure, I'm very aware of their video and I love it! 😆 I think you'll find a video on my main channel talking about Manic Miners in more detail too; in short, it's amazing!
What if the fricionless pin was used on the opposite side of the technic brick, in the holes closest to the mountainside? Means the bridge wouldn't fall out in the center, but rather on the one side. I'll try a proxy build and test my hypothesis.
What if both sides of the bridge were connected to the pins on one the side holes of the brick so that when you pull the axle out the bridge would fall to the side automatically instead of having to be pushed to twist? Idk if that would work or not

This everest video has felt like a 3 day journey
I love the sluggin around logo so much.
Same! ahhhhhhh
Maybe in a prototype stage they planned for the bridge to collapse if you pulled out the supporting pin, rather than just tipping over?
Maybe... problem is, the *other* side of the bridge uses a 2x4 Technic pin brick, so there's no way it would have fell away.

The Sluggin' around theme is honestly unbeatable, no other Slug based music has had me humming it randomly nearly as much
As a transformers fan, yeah offical toy photographers just kinda be like that
Stickin' Around theme music? That takes me back.
I love this! Did not expect a little mystery solving from slugger today!
Love the use of the stickin' around theme for the background track
Temple of Mt. Everest? More like “Temple that Refuses to Let Slugger Rest!”
Come on, "...Let Slugger Ever Rest" was right there! D:

That photo of the warped bridge is really a perfect match! I was actually really curious about this, glad to find the answer!

I really like the more laid back nature of this channel
I'm disappointed my guess wasn't the answer, I really thought they had put the pin off-center so the bridge would tip over on its own.
I tried that too and the results were unsatisfying; the centre of gravity on the bridge is too low to actually topple over - I still had to push it. 😭
Chances are, since this is Lego during a time for finding out their baring out in the toy market, really didn't know entirely what they were doing and mostly going by possible good ideas.
These little differences are so interesting! Thanks for sharing

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY IM A SUBSCRIBER TO SLUGGIN AROUND!
Honestly, I just assumed it was a technic pin with a + on one end. I didn’t even notice it was sticking out further than that.
Shifting the bridge fully one hole could make the play feature more effective at felling the bridge, interesting findings!
I thought so too, so I tried it - turns out, the centre of gravity is too low for it to actually work! You still have to tip it by hand. 😭
Is it just me, or does Minor Minutia sound like a good name for an indie band?

I tried it on mine and it didn't work - the centre of gravity is too low for the bridge to tip fully on its own. ☹
What if it was meant to "fall down" from one end buuut they somewhy didn't add a piece towards the building that would let it tilt
I tried that idea too, but the centre of gravity is too low for the bridge to swing out on its own anyways. 😭
you can't convince me that this isn't the Stickin Around theme song, and no it doesn't say a lot about me for knowing it 😂🙂😶🌫
It is! Haha, good ear!
Huzzah they mystery has been solved!
It could be they did it specifically for the bridge to be angled more dynamically? Or maybe it is just amateurish photography, who knows!
Could be!
