    I love to hear the additional information about why old Lego was provably different in terms of function compared to now! It's interesting to know that the change was a binary change, and any gradual shift would presumably be due to a mix of the old and new parts in a single set or across the entire line. I concede on my prior suggestion for why it may seem this way lolol 😆

    Interesting. I've never had any problem removing such pieces. Maybe I never stumbled upon the really tough ones, but I grew up with Lego (born in the seventies) and remember when these pieces were introduced and still never had any problem with them. I just squeeze the part and make it turn slightly and yes, sometimes I do use the lever as a help but I've never ever snapped a single one of them like you showed here. I do however take special care in not actually bending the lever, I'm just using it more like an extended handle to make it easiser for me to twist the part where the lever is attached. Or I just squeeze the base and make it turn. Maybe I just have a strong grip.

    I understand the "orphans" argument, but at the same time I think it is really cool that they can bring back an older theme. I'm planning to get back at collecting lego, and I'm not interested in any current theme, but I never had any Ice Planet sets... Since I live in Brazil its impossible to find a used set from back in the day here. So I'm looking foward to scan some QR codes to get that MFC. And of course if they include in the next series an AQUAZONE minifigure I'll loose my shit 😂

    The 90s theory isn't valid. I've never experienced a "fused" lever, and I've never broken one. I have very minimal experience with Lego after the 90s. Mid 80s through 90s was my peak Lego era.

      Haha, I get where you’re coming from, but I had to chuckle a bit reading this; your experiences don’t speak for everyone’s experiences, eh? 😅 There seems to be a number of people who have commented that older lever pieces would fuse up on occasion. I’ve certainly experienced it multiple times. I’ve never heard of a post-2005 lever doing this.

      @SlugginAround thanks for the reply! You mentioned that when someone has never experienced this, it signals to you that they've never experienced 90s Lego. I'm countering your anecdotal conclusions with my own. Based on my experience, I think your 90s theory is dubious at best.

    Lego actually solved the lever problem already. They now include single stud bricks which, allow for easier removal of the lever piece. I use them all the time for my MOCs without much issue. Also I learned another technique to remove them from a normal brick as well.

  • @XCATX25
    @XCATX25 หลายเดือนก่อน

    That's not how you use the separator as a level necessarily, you need to put it in between the studs and the item, and try to pull it up, that's not what you did. I don't think it is THAT much better, but I think it was in fact the best way to try and remove the piece. Also I don't think that moving from the lever is fair either, when we do that, we also try to accompany the entire piece with the finger so it rotates with the lever, not just by the lever like you did, that is very biased and wrong imho

  • @spikepig76

    I appreciate your pain. If I were dealing with it, I would have to bring out a pair of needlenose pliers with the tips wrapped in a bit of electrical tape so that the part doesn't scratch. Quite inconvenient. Maybe they had to make the handle thicker. Truth is that I almost only use levers for navigation controls in spaceships; they have other uses but they are certainly frustrating. Thanks for the video! PS. This guy uses a lever piece well; a eye for a modified Fellbeast: th-cam.com/video/hjKeP5-ERYY/w-d-xo.html

    I think you can minimize the chance of the lever breaking and make it easier to remove it, if you pinch the black lever at its base along with the bottom white part at the same time and twist it. I remember I always had a bad felling that the lever would break off if I tried to twist it the way you did it in the video.

    My friend. Why do you push on the lever sideways from its tip? You must push sideways from where the lever arm meets the base. While the physical force required to turn it may be higher over all, it's less likely to exceed the strength of the plastic in the lever arm, while still giving you the leverage you need to rotate the base and either reorient it, or cause it to pop off. (=)----------o ^ Push here (=)----------o Not here ^

  • @CarsSimplified
    @CarsSimplified หลายเดือนก่อน

    I don't know if I have ever experienced this. I might have once very early in my Lego building years, and then switched to teeth, and finally to the technique I use today, which I will detail in this comment. I definitely think they need to update these with a removal lip, though. First off, I do what you did and clear off anything else that gets in the way. The lever is then adjusted down to its lowest setting. Next, I align my fingers with the slot so that I'm grabbing on to the base section (little to no slot contact) and the lever points towards my hand. I then squeeze the piece together as I rotate the piece the lever is attached to back and forth. The rotation allows you to overcome the static friction/clutch power and it seems to also naturally want to be off of a stud. Most of the time, I also use the base of the lever a little bit for added leverage (ha!) but the force priority is always on the base. Over the years, I've developed a sense of how much I can push on the lever before it gets any sort of permanent/semi-permanent bend in it. Because this process relies heavily on overcoming static friction, it's important to keep it moving until it has come off a bit. You should be able to feel it become less stubborn right away if the base leaves the surface of the piece it is attached to. Extreme solution: Grab an electric drill with an adjustable chuck and clamp it down on the base (this will EASILY crush the piece and most chucks tighten with a ton of leverage, so very light on this!) then manually rotate the piece it is attached to off. If that doesn't work, it's time to run the drill! Note: I have never done this. Any time I think about it, the piece gets scared and comes off by hand.
