This will probably be my last Final Fantasy 9 character study for a bit. I do eventually want to return to Garnet and Kuja - I feel I have at least 8-10 minutes to say about both of them. I'm just ready to return to full-fledged reviews and I'm currently about halfway through Legend of Dragoon. This is my third video in way less than a month. That's pretty shocking right?

Theres a reason You Are Not Alone stands above all the FF soundtracks for me. As a kid who had played 7 and came to 9 afterwards, having the main character be this self confident bedrock was so refreshing. And exploring what happens when a character like that cracks left a big impact.
Thank you for reminding me why this game retains such a special place in me.

    This game exemplifies University.
    University means Diversity WITHIN Unity.
Bet your pathetic school "teachers" never taught you that.
    Another great video sir.

Isn't it "Unity within Diversity", and not the other way around?

I was pretty sure it came from Latin which translates roughly to community / the whole or aggregate.

    3:04 Now that's an understatement
It's pretty clear that Garland didn't turn Zidane into an empty vessel by the fact that he recognizes everyone around him. If he was an empty vessel, he wouldn't go out of his way to be an ass to Eiko and Vivi because he wouldn't have had the freedom to do that. He clearly did this willingly and I always believed that the reason for this is because he can't handle the fact that he has to rely on others, it's too much of a humiliation for him to rely on the people he has been helping out the whole game because he believes that he is above them. The ultimate humiliation was Garnet saving his hide from a monster and I think by that point he realized that pushing his friends away was gonna cost him his relationship with Garnet... which is all he really cared about it seems, otherwise he would have snapped out of it the moment Eiko and Vivi came to save him instead of locking them behind an iron gate and leaving them to die.
Moral of the story is, don't think you're better than everybody else because if you do, it will catch up to you.
What happened to Zidane was Karma, Karma for being unbelievably pretentious and arrogant throughout the game, the thing is that he could have just accepted their help at the cost of his ego and they would have gone on their merry way but instead he decided to be a dick about it and it's pretty clear that the reason why he was a dick to Eiko and Vivi is because they made a fool out of him and he was angry about it.
I personally think that the cast was too soft on him, he deserved the Luke Fon Fabre treatment methinks... sadly that never happened which is why his character never truly grew from this.
