26:45 hurt my heart :( This is my favorite game too and I tried to play the same way with base vitality, charmless and no memories (the rest was allowed tho). I gave up while fighting Owl at the lookout because I just couldn't find my way around the poison and died from said poison in the middle of the fight when I deflected everything perfectly. That made me actually stop playing the game for a loooong while. I know that feeling when the perfection was harder than you thought, it physically hurts... But it doesn't make you any less than said youtubers, they usually go for IS ending not purification, this is actually hard. You finished the game and to be honest homecoming is the best ending anyway :D
Return/Homecoming is the only ending that isn't tragic in some way 😭 I try to do it every time if I'm not specifically going for something else

This is seriously impressive. Really well done. Just reading the restrictions made me want to cry a little lmao, but damn you made it work, and like Isshin told us, there are no rules, you just gotta make sure you win. I'm sure he would 100% approve of all manner of cheese, the old troll.
And hey I learned a few new things! Didn't know you could wall deathblow dogs. Or that you could have more than one puppet at a time. Definitely will be trying that out! (Also that you can deflect the shiled guys but that one is down to me perpetually going "oh wait you can deflect that?", even wayyyy past the point where I should know better.)
Out of every individual attack in this game, I feel like there are less than 20 of them that you can't deflect lmao
@@umbekWhen I found out you can deflect the trees growing out of the clouds in P1 of the Divine Dragon fight, I think that should have been the moment I accepted that absolutely anything can be deflected in this game. And yet.

This painful run reminded me that today actually, in celebration of my final NG+ cycle before I get 100% (achievements) I decided to torture myself by fighting the Demon of Hatred charmless and with the Demon Bell on, just like I had done with every other boss previously on that run... that run was already quite difficult for me, so I cannot even begin to imagine the pain and emotions you felt while doing this!!! Shortly put; in my eyes it cannot get much harder than this, well done! :)

A small tip for the future, during the jump you can block the lightning giving you a massive window for reversal and allowing much more generosity for the timing of the jump. 😄

One thing about guardian ape i learned, if you jump and grab a tree while he try to grab you, he doesn't reach for some reason
Good point. I usually just run away or dodge to make it easier to punish afterwards but that's probably a safer way of avoiding the attack
For owl, you can jump on top of his head if you time it correctly when he does that fire crajwr attack

in isshin's third phase there's also a factor of uneven round, if you're not jumping straight vertically you can land faster/slower the latter one giving you less time to release the lightning, like at 41:31, where you jumped to lower area but got knocked back into higher one

During my no attack power run, floating passage helped me chip down boss health. You can get it from trading carp to the jar guy for the art at hirata estate
I have never found Floating Passage to be very good or particularly useful personally so I didn't bother with it

You should try the resurrection overhaul mod, I found it a really nice mix up and I had some of that “first playthrough experience” you were talking about

I remember beating Owl Father at Level 1 vitality + charmless with Bell Demon first try.
Honestly, to squeeze in more damage, it's probably the best to have Mortal Draw, and use that instead of the Jump kick.
But if you want super aggression with consistency, Nightjar Reversal is probably the play. IF you allow yourself combat art updrades...
I mean, I could definitely do Owl Father completely level 1, but the only reason I won't do that is because of the process of GETTING THERE. I am NOT going through Hirata Estate TWICE.
Mortal Draw still does barely any damage to him when you're at base Attack Power. You'll run out of Spirit Emblems long before you get him down even to half health. It really doesn't help, like at all.

Damn. I've been trying this run for a while now, but have been stuck on Demon of Hatred and Owl (Father) for months as the time I have available for the game disappeared. Also, I went charmless, Bell Demon, no buffs, no skills (including mortal draw), and no healing items (other than the gourd).

I never even noticed that and I actually have no explanation for you, no idea why that would have happened. Pretty sure I uninstalled every mod before recording this video... and even if I didn't my Spirit Emblems definitely get used normally throughout the rest of the run....
