Yeah - I have to agree with Dave, Eric: your Moperc Congas and Bongos sound (combi of drums and skin) is incredible - I love this sound and the style of the drums. The exercise is cool and produces a really cool groove, too. Fantastic!
Eric, I bought a set of Pearl Elite bongos ($500), I thought they would blow be away but I was disappointed. My first set of bongos LP Aspire ($30) used sound better to me & I am able to get more different sounds out of it. I tuned the Pearls different ways, & the reason I bought them was for the 9 inch drum, I thought I could get a lower conga drum sound out of it. What am I doing wrong? HELP! Mike 🪘
Yo. Picking up some nice LP bongos and following your excellent tutorials and learning (mostly conga patterns) kept me sane thru lockdown. Discovered all sorts of interesting tones, inc muted ones at various pitches, and on the hembra! (which would get me sacked in a salsa band I appreciate). Anyway. Now that I've come to recording them the result is completely different, and actually not very nice. Despite having a very reasonable mic (an AKG P4 dynamic ) and a good audio interface to put it through, the sound I'm getting is sort of toppy, and 'papery'. All the warmth (and there aint much with bongos of course) is buried. To get anywhere near what they sound like naturally i'm having to cut 10db around the 5k mark and compress pretty heavily with almost 0s attack. The mic is about 6" above but the sound seems dominated by by the sound of the skins and my hands hitting them it seems. Even just sliding my hands across them I can hear the texture of the skins, which i wouldn't normally. I appreciate that the mic is much nearer than my ears, but not THAT much nearer. And if I'm playing with other musicians or a DJ then I cant place the mic feet away. I have a vocal mic which I haven't tried, but I'm not sure it's cut out for bongos... any of your wisdom on the subject would be most appreciated... gracias!
Seria genial si haces listas con los videos en español y en ingles. Ya que al no entender ingles me guio por tus videos en español pero me cuesta encontrar en tu canal (mas en bongo). Porque amo tus videos, enseñas muy bien!
Yeah - a lot of fun and a surprising deviation from the martillo too. I can't get over the sound you're producing with those Moperc bongos - lovely!
Thank you!!!
They sound amazing don't they!
Nice
