To have a frase as a reference point is always key. Si bien a solo is a free expression you always need some sort of like you said “stepping stone” to come back to, or to trancicion to. I’m a timbalero, but I use A LOT of bongo frases in my solos, I even have a routine that I apply a lot in solos that’s all bongo frases, and yes Carl is a monster in the bongos, he’s shown me so many toques de bongo to apply to the timbal jaja I copy so much from him… Saludos desde california!!!
Great Eric ! I'm a finger tip type of player because i don' t play much in Salsa bands and especially Bongos, but that was helpful , in that i can in corporate it more into the playing i do and have a stronger sound. ...Thank you Eric😎
Very nice Eric great explanation bro. Just bring up your hembra just a hair up and then your fingers will pop a bit better. Just a hair not much like a quarter turn and you will see the difference. Love bongos man. I play congas to but my instrument is the bongos. Charlie Selina’s was my teacher. If you don’t know who he is. He Was the bongo player for Bobby Rodriguez y la compañia he played bongos and timbales at the same time. Woodstock album you can hear him. Great album
About time you were due bongos but I thing the best of the best Johnny Rodriguez also Roberto Roena chucky Lopez and JM willie colon bongo player you had father and son team that play for Willie and Louis Romero carlito soto. And of course Manny Oquendo NYC LENGEN. ERIC World wide no disrespect to you my brother.
Multi - timekeeping especially when playing cowbell, enhancing congas or drum kit, soloing. A lot depends on style of music and other instruments. It's very versatile
Brother, everything is not about speed and no phrasing. It needs some flavor instead of just a bunch of 16th notes. Another thing is that hembra sounds so dull. Maybe it's it needs more tuning or just that the heads aren't the right ones for those bongos. Personally, I think you should've bought a less expensive bongo like for beginners rather than a pro style. I'm sorry to tell you but you're not at that level or even close to $1,000 bongos. Hell most professionals don't even spend half of that.
I have 100$ bongos, I'm a complete beginner to percussion and barely get a decent sound when I play. What should I do to develop my sound, and who could be a good reference? Where can I find bongo beats to incorporate into my own playstyle?

Bro I thought I was the only one that felt like that. His videos could be half the length at least.
