  • Brake squealing or squeaking is rarely a sign of trouble. Porsche engineers explain why there is a propensity for brake squeal. Though this is typical of high performance brakes, our superior engineering strives to minimize unwanted brake noise.

And for some stupid reason, we replace them for free under warranty. So spending a few thousand on this video, just so their staff can shove it in the stupid customer's face every time they complain... worth it.

  • @DarinNederhoff
    @DarinNederhoff 6 ปีที่แล้ว +215

    Big performance brakes have been prone to this sort of noise for DECADES now. It's not normally a problem if you use them hard from time to time but too many posers sitting in traffic don't get the concept and get annoyed that their 'expensive personal image enhancement object' makes noise and they can't hear their incoming text messages. ;-) Try three hard stops from 70-80 mph (on a clear road obviously) and see if they don't quiet down for a while. Get some heat into the rotors and clear off some of that pad material you've built up while posing in traffic. Once they cool down spray them down to clean the excess brake dust. In many cases that brake noise is merely a cry for help... your Porsche has become bored with your Buick-like driving traits.

    • @plocky4275
      @plocky4275 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@benweiss7636 High performance brakes squeal when they are not being used as they should, which is hard braking. Period. This is well known since disc brakes' first beginnings in motorsport that goes all the way back to the early 50s. Any buyer capable and presumably enthusiastic enough to buy a Porsche or any other supercar that doesn't get this is straight up ignorant. The 911 user driving with carboceramics doing casual driving while complaining about brake squeal is indeed a poser that will never understand you need to drive and break hard in order to create proper heat so brakes can function properly.
      Not only that, Porsche is one of the few manufacturers that doesn't rely on third parties when it comes to braking technology, it's all made in house, which allow them to improve tremendously in relatively short time. Take the brakes from a 997 GT3 and a 991 GT3 and compare. Miles apart. Sorry sir, you are still a poser.

      Doesn't work, re-done the full bed-in procedure with 50 stops, it quiet down for like half a day and then back to being 30 yr old night bus at 4am in your neighborhood. They should not sell this as a street car without a fat red disclaimer you get x % chance yours will be the one that squeal, badly.

It's never going to happen.. Well never say never. How about this when we solve it you'll be the first to know. In closing it's your state of mind. The squealing is a feature of high performance. True petrol heads know this and love the sound almost as much as they love the sounds of our engine . Drive this for a few more years and you'll come to miss this sound when we go fully electric. I'd grown used to the annoying sound of brake squeak from the large front rotors on my MB C450 AMG, which the MB dealer examined and found to be good. I remember driving a Ferrari 430 Scuderia at Exotics Racing, and hearing the same squeak. Then just the other day, an Audi R8 pulled up beside me, and exhibited the same squeak. After seeing this video, I now consider myself to be proudly driving a car with large (and powerful) front rotors. Thanks, Porsche.

    Some people are bewildered why they would make this video. It's quite simple. Porsche makes an amazing product. People think that the product is flawed due to the noise when it is totally normal. If a mechanic or someone else in the dealership informs them, customers might believe that they do not want to replace the faulty brakes. When Porsche puts out a video, it tends to make things better. Plus, they don't want to tie up dealerships into fixing a problem that does not exist. Real-world and funny example: My girlfriend rode in my brand new GTS and said "for all the money you spent on this car, you'd think they'd make it quieter". Unreal. Lol. Not my girlfriend anymore :)

    Bs. I have a new Macan Turbo and it sounds like a semi truck. I’m trading the sob because I can’t stand the high screeching sound. The dealer has acknowledged the issue and worked on it twice and still sounds terrible. And don’t give the “performance ceramic” Excuse. I have a garage full of exotics with bigger breaks and they don’t sound like this.

      @@cadriver2570 u know what the dealer did was they had a letter sent to me from the engineering department in Germany. First of all it was a standard letter that they send everyone with this compliant. Second it was a total bs that the sound is normal. I told them this is not my first high performance car intact their own 911 turbos don’t make this sound. Still after repeated attempts to correct it they said there is nothing more they can do. I sold mine after 10 months and bought a Jaguar I-Pace which performs even a little better than the Macau turbo with torque-vectoring and 512 lbs of instant torque.

    • @cadriver2570
      @cadriver2570 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bakhteria Wow, that is total BS. The Macan stops in about 10 feet earlier than an M40i. I would gladly trade 10 feet to not burn out my eardrums. I have also not heard this from any of their Taycans.
      I-Pace is a smart move. Super quiet, better powertrain, costs virtually nothing to charge compared to gas. I test drove one a while back and it was a lot of fun. Has yours been generally problem-free?

    High end Porsche sports car use Brembo brakes with Brembo pads similar to that of there sp compound in the aftermarket world that have there formula of sinter material in them to be able to achieve high friction durability and high operational temp limit sinter means there metallic material in the pads so you basically have metal composite pads scraping with cast iron metal rotor squeaking is inevitable my GR Supra for example when I change to mx72+ pads they squeak abit more and dust a little brown there semi metallic pads but they sure bite hard and super fade resistant.

    What a load of nonsense. Not that what they said isn't true, because it is when there truly is "No Compromise" performance, but the average brake system shouldn't squeal, even if we're talking about a 911 Turbo. The average buyer of their cars is dentist who'll never track his car or use his brake system to it fullest potentiality and Porsche knows this. They have no car in production that is truly "No Compromise" in terms of performance. They're just trying avoid warranty claims.

    If your breaks squeal its because your'e not driving hard enough and therefore not breaking hard enough to wear off pad build up. These breaks are not made for driving conservatively. When your'e blasting down the autobahn at 295km/h and have to break hard because some idiot changed lanes without looking, trust me you will be very happy you have beefy Porsche breaks.

  • @hzardiswastez

    Yeahhh, adding a flat piece of metal doesn't do anything. I'm guessing their engineers probably haven't tried different geometric pieces other than a flat one. I hit my flat piece of metal on my Mustang breaks with a hammer to disrupt the low resonating frequency. But I live in Texas and heat and humidity are the factor here. Also, Porche owners usually are entitled pricks and I can definitely see why they would complain on something as simple as this. But hey, what do I know. I'm just a senior in MFGE lol

    Basically the worst solution to address whining Porsche customers about brake squeal was to create a video like this. If you are not a trained mechanic and hear strange noises coming from there, don't hesitate: go and have it checked with your dealer or a trained mechanic. Even if you are a Porsche customer (especially if you are a Porsche customer)! How can an average Snob Joe differentiate between innocent vibrations and say a loose brake caliper? Nohow!

    I see that Porsche's customer base is losing a lot of their high-performance drivers. It's simple, high-performance brakes have a tendency to make noise every so often. Any braking system that is absolutely quiet is most likely not going to perform under the most rigorous conditions.
