The defining song of the 1980s as far as I'm concerned. It elicits all the elements of a great tune, sadness, hope, nostalgia, better days, dreams, and excitement. The '80s compressed into one song.
@James I know exactly what you're saying here. My dad died suddenly, in the mid-80s, and the music of this time helped me to cope and grieve. In '86 I bought myself a brand new cherry-red Trans-Am and drove all over, playing this and other tunes to just...escape for awhile. I drove and drove, putting over 230,000 miles on her until she died at age 22. What music....! What a car....! And what a time.....

Whenever I hear this song, it is magic and my mind loves to float along with the rhythm and beat. The 80's were the best, America was still optimistic and tolerance. Wish I could say the same about today.
True, and it was also a time when you could say what you wanted, nothing bad. You could say it without having to apologize for every other word because it "offended" someone; we have come to a ridiculous crossroad involving many factors.
You are so correct, top to bottom! In the 70s, 80s, and 90s, WE HAD ACHIEVED UNITY almost 100%! But in the 2000s politicians discovered they could use pitting us against one another to their advantage, and they have totally succeeded, thanks to their media apparatchiks and the "education" system! They will never change me, though. Ever. Even as a "mixed-race minority" I will retain my spirit of unity until my dying day.
