People used to complain Eurovision was politically motivated, when we would be last due to everybody hating us because of our politics. Usually about who we were going along with the USA bombing. Although because our government want us to now be all be flying the Ukraine flag because the USA and Britain have been trying to shut down Russia Today news for years, for them pointing out things our news doesn't. Such as how we sell arms to countries like Saudi Arabia and have funded extremist groups to overthrow leaders who won't trade oil in US Dollars, nobody cares Ukraine won, despite us having the best song.
I will say it’s incredible, but I honestly think he sounds a lot like Freddie mercury meets Michael Jackson. It’s the familiarity of his voice, amazing as it is, that I enjoy. Even the song feels right at home as an Elton John song.
Name the last time the audience sung to our song. It either never happened or this was the most recent time in a LONG time. Amazing job Sam, hope you get the recognition you deserved all those years ago
The *REAL* winner of Eurovision 2022! He is at least a HERO for sure for inspiring millions in the UK. Europe DOESN'T hate us! We just have to send good songs, with good staging, like this and with a great singer with an AMAZING stage presence and personality! It will be hard to find another Sam Ryder but it surely won't be hard to inspire those of us in the UK now! Look - I’m a long-term fan of Eurovision; and when I say long-term, I mean 32 years - that’s more than 75% of my life! This song is clever in so many ways particularly how it associates itself with the UK’s history of great rock. “Spaceman” - the song theme leaning towards David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust. The black glam rock jumpsuit, with the beading reminiscent of London’s pearly kings and queens, and the long hair harking back to the 70’s/80’s. The falsetto, and the tightly-harmonized backing vocals with occasional major third chord thrown in: very much in the style of Queen and Freddie Mercury. To do well at Eurovision, you need an excellent performer and an excellent song, but you also need these “extras” to unconsciously hook people into the performance and really feel it on an emotional level. (Charlotte Perelli did this in 1999 with “Take me to your Heaven” - which heavily echoed “Waterloo” in its musicality/production). If anyone on the UK Eurovision committee is listening - I’m available - where else are you gonna get a musical, analytical Eurovision superfan, who’s impartial and doesn’t have any skin in the game? 🤣👌❤️🤷🏼♀️
I had a Eurovision party once. Everyone came in different European clothing (and Israel, and Australia!) and my daughter and her best friend cooked all different foods and put little flags on them to show which country they came from. They also made a very lovely Black Forest Gateau, with a woodland scene on top. Seriously it was good (there was even a little bear!). But there was no kirsch in it. I wandered upstairs and there were my daughter, and her mate, sleeping very happily...with an empty bottle of kirsch between them!

The perfect storm of high risk, high reward for us here... We shot high and hit the target. It was a song that was always going to be a challenge to deliver live; one like we have never sent before and could go horribly wrong if it did - all delivered by a singer who is not only capable of delivering it but smashed it and then some. The contest responded to that and it took a lot of people by surprise too. Any-one who listened to the studio version and how high it is assumed that it would flunk live, but time and time again Sam delivered; better every time - reaching this crescendo just in time for the final. I simply don't know how we will build on this next year.

The perfect storm of high risk, high reward for us here... We shot high and hit the target. It was a song that was always going to be a challenge to deliver live; one like we have never sent before and could go horribly wrong if it did - all delivered by a singer who is not only capable of delivering it but smashed it and then some. The contest responded to that and it took a lot of people by surprise too. Any-one who listened to the studio version and how high it is assumed that it would flunk live, but time and time again Sam delivered; better every time - reaching this crescendo just in time for the final. I simply don't know how we will build on this next year.
