I remember I hated the 4:3 aspect and didn't have a problem with stretched image, until I tried to play some vertical shooters like the 1945 plus games and oooh boi, now I use 4:3 with an overlay to compensate the black borders.
Running my NES and SNES emulators in fullscreen mode on my PSP must make me an uncivilized barbarian then. I don't have an issue with having the original aspect ratio if I play on a pc, but on a relatively small screen such as the PSP one (in my case), it makes it a bit hard to see what's going on.
TecnoMercy overlay? I don’t entirely follow? You keep the original aspect (thank god) and unavoidable there will be borders. Do you mean you add some image on top of them?
You're amazing, seriously, you want something, you do it. I'm really impressed by what you've done before (especially, for the xbox community) and now. Follow you're dream, it's really good to see/hear that!
If he can port the OG Xbox emulator to the Switch.. This man is holy! I would look in the bible for his name cause the common man don't have that magical touch to program most things.. This man does..
Seriously amazing, not a progammer by any means but I love hearing the behind the scenes info about programming and porting over emulators and homebrew to different devices. Seriously underrated channel!
You really are incredible at what you do, I've had countless hours of emulation greatness on my OG Xbox thanks to you - and seeing your ports coming to other platforms is fantastic :)
I’ve been using your products for decades man! You do some amazing work, and videos like this show exactly what goes into a product like this. And with this, you ported an existing code base to a new console... let alone being in a dev team writing code from scratch! It’s a labor of love and you make it look effortless! Keep up the amazing work. I love all of what you do and rather enjoy getting the behind the scene look here in TH-cam on how you make that magic happen. Sincerely... another satisfied customer.
Without exageration, what you do is essential to our civilization's future and preservation of history as well as the advancement of common knowledge. Never stop.
Amazing video... Never expected to find a person with this dedication for his own work speaking of ports, and plus, reviewing his job with videos like this one. I always loved MAME, i'm a big fan of MKII and i'm thinking in modify my Switch for some scene gaming, i'm interested in arcade emulation, with Gamecube and Wii emulation too. This video helped me to making the decision.
MK2 was my favorite and I was a big fan of the snes and genesis ports, but it always looked STUNNING at the arcades. The sound and graphics just had that PUNCH...
Thank you so much. This is just what I've been waiting for. I look forward to vertical game/rotation support if you can pull it off, so many great vertical games.
Your newest switch homebrew update video got me into switch emulation and I've watched a bunch of your other videos on the subject. Really high quality stuff. So thank you! And your work on ports is much appreciated. Keep up the great work!
Excellent video, I would love to see more videos such as these!! If some wanted to get into porting games or applications to other platforms, what type of programming languages do you suggest that I learn? What type of projects should I start working on to get an understanding of what is needed for a project such as this? The MAME 0.72 runs flawlessly! I think it's cool that you are giving the community the ability to choose the type of software that you want to run. For some, the all in one Retro Arch may be the way to go, but I think having a cleaner more elegant solution is the ticket. Not to mention, it probably helps where performance is concerned and does not utilize as much space on the storage media. Keep the content coming!
I dont even have a switch. But I subscribed and liked. Just because this guy deserves apreciation. So MUCH work ! And he gave everything to the community. Hats off Sir.
The people behind the scenes always were a mystery so cool to see this channel and the man behind alot of our most loved emu's we all played on past and now modern systems ;-) I really love all the explanations of the past how crack groups operated and all the other stuff amazing work mate!
loved seeing the development process - always wondered how these and other emulators come together and though it was just a brief part of the video was illuminating. the results so look excellent so far.
Totally earned a sub buddy, man I cant believe you put so much time and effort into this, you have passion, even making the video was great, you have my respect. Awesome job, now to try and find the rom set.
I had a mortal kombat 2 board set a few years ago. As much as I loved it.....there is only so many times you can play mk2. Thats when I started in emulation.
@@ModernVintageGamer do you like classic Killer Instinct? Been playing an Xbox port of KI 1 + 2 via Cxbx-Reloaded. Port of ultra64emu with dx11 and other enhancements.
Great stuff, I feel very inspired by how you just give this stuff a crack. Emulation always seemed so esoteric to me, and these videos have shown me it's not a totally impenetrable world.
im sorry, but you are incredible men. im from argentina, and think there not channels retro or vintage so usefull like you channel. i dont have the switch yet, but this is amazing. you pusruit to perfect possible emulation, is surprising me. sorry my not google english
HUGE thanks!!!!i tried Mame via Retroarch on Vita, slow slow slow. I can't wait to try this on my switch. I own a legit mk2 cabinet, running both mk1 and 2 boards with a jamma switcher! can't wait to take it on the go.

This is really excellent work. Thank you soooo much for taking the time to help the community. (been wanting to play NBA Jam on my Switch!) *edit* FYI original NBA Jam froze my Switch at the "do you want to enter your initials" screen.
It’s so awesome to hear someone talk about the process of making an emulator! MK2 is my favorite as wel and i didn’t know about the sound chip! Very cool! .. now.. how about that Ultra64 KI emu.. that needs a home on the switch for sure!
This is awesome mate. If you ever feel like doing something a little different, I'd love to see a more in depth "how to" port video. You touched on it quite well, but I mean, go deeeeper into the code and libs, how you tweaked the compiler. I'd be interested.
I don’t own a Switch, but nevertheless found the video very interesting. In fact, I don’t think I have ever watched one of your videos that I didn’t enjoy. Keep up up the good work.
Hopefully that rumored "SwitchPro" is on the way, that way I can make my original switch a dedicated homebrew machine. You are the man! I love all your homebrew videos!
Nice! Seems like it’s easy for you to port older emulators and games to the Switch, but I suppose it’s due to your experience with this stuff. Keep the good work up and I look forward to playing your ports and using your emulator on Switch in the future!
Hey Lantus! Could you point me in The direction of a tweaked version of MAME or Retroarch or something with a core that can handle Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on the OG Xbox? (the actual arcade game, not the ports) at full speed, with full midway DCS sound system emulation that doesn’t crackle and stutter and just plain sound awful when you go to do a combo. Would appreciate any feedback as I’ve searched the internet high and low. All links to your ports are outdated on the internet.
You are an absolute asset to Retro gaming. Thanks for not only creating awesome stuff, but also sharing interesting videos too. Can you do a video on party games? Chu Chu Rocket!
Great work there! Just a question: would it run another Midway game: Killer Instinct 1 (or 2) from the arcades? I know the arcade version of KI was built around a completely different hardware rig but it is still interesting to know if it will work or not. Thanks and keep preparing such awesome videos for us.
Wow so nice !! Love this video! Is Killer Instinct working too? For me mame, even thought I read about it like crazy always been obscure .. to see someone compiling it for another device, that's crazy!! Good job!!
Shaolin Monks is only partial emulation. I checked the tables of content of the rom files in Mortal Kombat shaolin monks the files called MK2.sr files and it is much bigger in size than a MK2 arcade rom size that is because inside this sr files are WAV files. The WAV files are 44.1kHz, 16bit, mono, PCM. The sound effects are 22kHz. So the DCS is not being emulated at all they actually converted the sound files in WAV to be played by the consoles audio chips since the xbox, ps2 and gamecube all had dedicated audio chips that could play WAV files without any performance penalty and these WAV files are played when it needed by the consoles as the emulation is running. They could never get a fully emulation of MK on 6th gen consoles. This is the same in all Digital eclipse games like Midway arcade treasures or Capcom arcade classic at the time they all used WAV files to sounds

in my opinion you cant play MK2 without a dedicated cabinet, mainly due to the button layout on the CP. It went to a good home and a dedicated machine
