Bud Wzr My Rosita only eats home made food. 80 per cent is chicken, meat, salmon or turkey. 20 per cent vegetables. Healthy treats in the morning. Plenty of fresh water, lots of love and walking every 3 hours for 10 minutes so she keeps nice and fit. She loves to play with us and like to cuddle. She is now 7 years old. Not having any health issues. Good and natural food is the best thing you can do for a dog. Don’t give them that crap prepared food from these bags they sell and even if your vet says it is OK. NOT OK AT ALL. That dry food has been processed and will give your dog cancer, heart issues etc...
My chi (taco) always ate people food. I usually boiled chicken legs and a spoon of cooked rice. He started having a little nausea, allergies, and his poo was loose and sometimes yellow. The vet told me it was his diet, but now trying to get him to eat dog food is not easy. If your chi starts having some of these problems you might try changing his diet. I guess we just love them too much.
I have a Chihuahua and we follow most of the steps listed and she’s a very happy baby. Definitely very sensitive to weather and must be talked to all the time, if you pass her without saying hi she’ll assume you’re mad at her and she’ll get sad. They’re also very intelligent, can easily manipulate you if you spoil them too much. Haha
I’m training my puppy in many things and he has sit really well so with toilet training he looks at the treats near litter box then sits in it to say look mum I’m doing good where’s my treat

@@DestinyAmato I think they make special puppy food. But you can also feed puppies unseasoned scrambled eggs and a little milk or half and half to help them put on weight and stuff. I had to babysit my uncle’s puppy and that helped her a lot.
I have had multiple roommates and friends with chihuahua and chihuahua mixes. They are super popular where I live, but ours tend to be slightly bigger-bodied than the typical breed standard. Backyard breeding tends to result in bigger chihuahuas, but that's okay with me! I like the ones that are built a little more like a terrier, with a deer-head and even a flop ear or two. All the ones I have known were cool little characters.
Some one should tell my Chi she a indoor dog, She loves playing in the snow and playing out doors all day if I let her. We will walk up to one mile every morning if the weather is good, she hates the rain and wind but loves lots of snow. At 10 she still plays and acts like a puppy.
I have an 11 year old apple head chihuahua girl since she was a puppy and just got a new baby apple head boy. Chihuahuas are wonderful dogs, smart and alert, trainable, and friendly if you socialize them. Definitely more active than most people think, and they love to be allowed to be dogs rather than stuffed in a purse, even though they are lap dogs when active time is over.

Cherylynn Wilson i have a 3 legged chihuahua myself and his name is lucky and he is my baby boy he is 3 years old will be 4 dec 1 2018 he hates the snow and hates going in water also, but when i do give him a bath im very easy. The thing is he can swim but he just dont like to be in the water at all. He also barks at everything as nd everything also. He loves to cuddle with me and be very warm all the time though he is my cuddle bug i love that he loves to cuddle with me all the time and be under the blankets also cause im always under blankets to i get cold all the time even in the summer, i dont even have my a/cs up and running this year cause my place stays nice and comfortable with the fans on and i get cold on with my fans on at times. I got my baby boy for free at 6 months old from a family and im so very glad i did. My cat sky and lucky play together sometimes to but sometimes sky and lucky get on each others nerves to. But thats what brother and sister will do to each other sometimes lol. Thank u all for sharing ur stories about ur babys also.

my 2 year old chihuahua doesn't like people much at all he barks at everyone n anyone who comes into my house he won't let anyone stroke him except me n my partner he very playfully n loving towards us both.
My Chihuahua (female, 4 years old) is exactly the same. She usually only let men pet her (i don't know why tho) and my family members of course. A tip for you that worked wonders for us is to meet your guests outside. Walk a few minutes with your dog and the guests and she won't bark. i can't guarantee you, that your guests can pet your dog but at least there won't be no hour long barking in your house. If your guests ring anyway what you have to do is being really calm (don't scream at your pup to be quiet because all he/she want's to do is to protect you) put your leg in front of your pup but don't cover their sight. just place your leg in front of theirs and slighty push them back. don't get nervous and don't raise your voice. That way you won't show ANY sort of stress because one of the main reasons your pup barks is because of you getting annoyed or stressed about the fact that he/she barks. chihuahuas are extremely lovely to those who they know. Let your pup take some time and don't stress if your pup doesn't let him/her being pet. You also don't have to embarassed about that fact. Your dog isn't "rude" or "badly trained" they just don't like to be touched by strangers. And if your guests say something bad about that behavior kick em out. They can't blame a pup not wanting to be touched. They wouldn't wanna be touched by a giant stranger either. Good luck and best wishes from switzerland!

Im absolutely devastated but determined to save her- but I don't want her to suffer. I’ve had a beagle as an outside dog for about 6 years now, the only thing we do is feed him. He has no limits to backyard space, (by that I mean there is no fence, and we have a very large backyard either way) and is basically a wild dog who comes home for food and to sometimes play with me. His nails are fine, his fur is fine, I don’t see why you need to groom a dog once a week. Maybe this is just my dad’s style but his last dog lived to the age of 18. (He died from old age-) We also have a cat who we’ve done the same to, and she’s lived longer than him so far lmao (forgot to mention, our backyard extends into a creek, so they do have plenty of water accessible)...he must be doing something right cause both of them look like completely healthy animals lol
Make sure you stick close to them when outside. Big birds will try to feed on them. I had one that escaped a bird by running under a car while I let her run loose in the yard. It was scary.
Excuse me but how do you brush a dogs teeth? So my dog was given to us in a park because he wasn't wanted no more hes a long haired Chihuahua and the first time we took him to the vet the vet told us he had tarter the vet said we can do surgery on his teeth?
To prevent tartar buildup I use TropiClean in their water bowl. You can find it online. Works like a charm, no tartar, no surgery. I would do some investigating first before I subjected my furbaby to dental surgery, sounds painful and expensive. Get another opinion from another vet before committing to surgery.

yes that's cruel as dogs are pack animals and need care, being able to move and company. Leaving your dog in a crate seems to be the cruel trend indeed, in my eyes those people could NOT be more selfish! Poor dogs, treated like something you can "turn on and off" whenever you feel like it.
Hi guys, please help! My new housemate owns 2 very cute 10 year old chihuahuas, she seems to love them, feeds them healthily and gives them lots of attention but she NEVER WALKS THEM. In a year that I've lived here I maybe saw them leaving the house a dozen times at most and most of those were to leave them with the family. MOST days they're just let out into a garden for a few minutes toilet twice and spend the rest of the time sleeping or just lying around looking pretty bored. She gave me a bunch of reasons for this like they're old and get tired of the outdoors blah blah but if there's one thing I'm absolutely sure of about owning dogs is that they HAVE TO BE WALKED DAILY!!! And even though this vid says they are "indoor dogs" I still feel like they could use some stimulation. At least on a good weather days which are plenty where we live. Please help me persuade her of this or persuade me that it's ok coz I feel really sorry for them. Thanks.
Wish I saw this before I rescued a pregnant Chihuahua. After her baby came along I never took them anywhere until there were 3 mo other than the vet. So they distrust everyone else.
Consider adopting from a chi or lap dog rescue I have three , two are rescue one is the puppy I was blessed with before she was spayed being pregnant when I got her baby weighs 1 lb 10 oz parents are 3- 3 1/2 lbs baby is already 2 1/2 yrs old they all crack me up and keep me sane I have ms and they are my shadows lol
Dirk Huylebroeck if your dog barks turn around and walk the other way. I recommend starting from at home and go “sh” or “no” and if they stop reward them then once they start to learn then move outside
you don't need to bathe your dog every two months or EVER, unless it's really dirty for his/her own comfort or has chemicals on this fur. This bathing stuff is all for the human, not the dog! Furthermore, chihuahua needs to go outside every day , under supervision, just like all dogs! They need exercise, stimulance, fresh air to have a happy & healthy life. You are giving the false impression that as long as chichi is indoors, he's fine :/ Also, dry kibble sucks!!!

I mix a half scoop of kibble and a tablespoon of soft food. She loves it mixed. They should never be left outside alone even for a minute. There are far too many predator birds that will take them!
I don't agree that Chihuahuas need walking or exercising. I have owned five of them, and they don't get fat unless you feed them fatty food. And they live on the couch no problem.

I bought my puppy for $600.00 off Craig’s List. They posted her at 1pm, I contacted them at 448pm. I drove over 2 hours to get him. My dog was in my car, up my shirt at 730pm. 11 weeks old at the time. Fck Rescues Organizations. 99% of the time, they judge who they think the dogs should go to, and sometimes have a “friend” adopt the dog for future sale. Also, when you want a dog, you want a dog. You don’t want to 1. Fill out application 2. Wait for application to be approved. 3. Wait for Home visit. By this time, the dog you fell for is LONG GONE, and they sucker or guilt shame you into taking a dog you never wanted. And you know what.....you fall in love with whatever dog you get. Meanwhile, every time you see the breed you wanted, you say, “next time I’m getting a chihuahua”. Also, if you get your puppy young enough, you can train them to be sweet and fun to friends and family. WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY! There are people that say, “puppy mill this, and puppy mill that”. You ARE rescuing a dog when you buy from a dealer, breeder or pet store. You’re just not buying someone else’s negligent consequences. Fck Rescues.

@@goopbuggy I agree with Carrie Lyons. This video isn't that good. 1. Chihuahua's have the longest life expectancy of all of the dog breeds. Make sure you are ready to take on that commitment. 2. I would say Make sure you socialize your chi just like a big dog. But be careful they are very small. the barking and nipping people always complain about in small dogs is actually called "fear aggression" . So just imagine being that small. Its pretty scary. Look into a local dog trainer/puppy school. 3. Feed large kibble size to small dogs and try to stay away from wet food. They have very bad teeth. The large kibble helps scrape plaque off of their teeth. You need to keep their teeth in good health. chihuahuas have the longest life span of any dog breed, but there teeth can start to fall out at age ten(they can live to be 20+). 4.They can suffer from hydrosephalus or water on the brain. Puppy mill dogs can have severe behavioural issues. Only buy from a reputable breeder. Research the breeder before you buy. 5. It is sometimes harder to house train small dogs. never ever hit your dog while house training or push their nose into an accident. Small dogs are, well, small. A big dog understands that this is where they live, sleep, eat, so they shouldn't pee and poo there. But a small dog just thinks ,well I sleep in this one foot space and the rest is ok to pee in. A good strategy is to limit their indoor space to a very small space until you have a better handle on house training. Like they are only allowed in the living room. You can use a baby gate to keep them in one space. I hope this helps. chihuahua's are loyal, smart, and really fun!

Yes, they are very loyal dogs. But you have to protect them from coyotes.

my 2 year old chihuahua doesn't like people much at all he barks at everyone n anyone who comes into my house he won't let anyone stroke him except me n my partner he very playfully n loving towards us both.
My Chihuahua (female, 4 years old) is exactly the same. She usually only let men pet her (i don't know why tho) and my family members of course. A tip for you that worked wonders for us is to meet your guests outside. Walk a few minutes with your dog and the guests and she won't bark.
i can't guarantee you, that your guests can pet your dog but at least there won't be no hour long barking in your house.
If your guests ring anyway what you have to do is being really calm (don't scream at your pup to be quiet because all he/she want's to do is to protect you)
put your leg in front of your pup but don't cover their sight. just place your leg in front of theirs and slighty push them back. don't get nervous and don't raise your voice.
That way you won't show ANY sort of stress because one of the main reasons your pup barks is because of you getting annoyed or stressed about the fact that he/she barks.
chihuahuas are extremely lovely to those who they know. Let your pup take some time and don't stress if your pup doesn't let him/her being pet.
You also don't have to embarassed about that fact. Your dog isn't "rude" or "badly trained" they just don't like to be touched by strangers. And if your guests say something bad about that behavior kick em out.
They can't blame a pup not wanting to be touched. They wouldn't wanna be touched by a giant stranger either.

Isn't that the way it should be? Chihuahuas are very loyal and protective of their "casa". They will even chase after big dogs. They are the best dogs for security. Forget about Pitbull or Doberman. Get a chihuahua.

I’ve had a beagle as an outside dog for about 6 years now, the only thing we do is feed him. He has no limits to backyard space, (by that I mean there is no fence, and we have a very large backyard either way) and is basically a wild dog who comes home for food and to sometimes play with me. His nails are fine, his fur is fine, I don’t see why you need to groom a dog once a week. Maybe this is just my dad’s style but his last dog lived to the age of 18. (He died from old age-) We also have a cat who we’ve done the same to, and she’s lived longer than him so far lmao (forgot to mention, our backyard extends into a creek, so they do have plenty of water accessible)...he must be doing something right cause both of them look like completely healthy animals lol

Make sure you stick close to them when outside. Big birds will try to feed on them. I had one that escaped a bird by running under a car while I let her run loose in the yard. It was scary.

So my dog was given to us in a park because he wasn't wanted no more hes a long haired Chihuahua and the first time we took him to the vet the vet told us he had tarter the vet said we can do surgery on his teeth?
To prevent tartar buildup I use TropiClean in their water bowl. You can find it online. Works like a charm, no tartar, no surgery. I would do some investigating first before I subjected my furbaby to dental surgery, sounds painful and expensive. Get another opinion from another vet before committing to surgery.

yes that's cruel as dogs are pack animals and need care, being able to move and company. Leaving your dog in a crate seems to be the cruel trend indeed, in my eyes those people could NOT be more selfish! Poor dogs, treated like something you can "turn on and off" whenever you feel like it.

Hi guys, please help! My new housemate owns 2 very cute 10 year old chihuahuas, she seems to love them, feeds them healthily and gives them lots of attention but she NEVER WALKS THEM. In a year that I've lived here I maybe saw them leaving the house a dozen times at most and most of those were to leave them with the family. MOST days they're just let out into a garden for a few minutes toilet twice and spend the rest of the time sleeping or just lying around looking pretty bored. She gave me a bunch of reasons for this like they're old and get tired of the outdoors blah blah but if there's one thing I'm absolutely sure of about owning dogs is that they HAVE TO BE WALKED DAILY!!! And even though this vid says they are "indoor dogs" I still feel like they could use some stimulation. At least on a good weather days which are plenty where we live. Please help me persuade her of this or persuade me that it's ok coz I feel really sorry for them. Thanks.

Dirk Huylebroeck if your dog barks turn around and walk the other way. I recommend starting from at home and go “sh” or “no” and if they stop reward them then once they start to learn then move outside
you don't need to bathe your dog every two months or EVER, unless it's really dirty for his/her own comfort or has chemicals on this fur. This bathing stuff is all for the human, not the dog!
Furthermore, chihuahua needs to go outside every day , under supervision, just like all dogs! They need exercise, stimulance, fresh air to have a happy & healthy life. You are giving the false impression that as long as chichi is indoors, he's fine :/ Also, dry kibble sucks!!!

I don't agree that Chihuahuas need walking or exercising. I have owned five of them, and they don't get fat unless you feed them fatty food. And they live on the couch no problem.

I bought my puppy for $600.00 off Craig’s List. They posted her at 1pm, I contacted them at 448pm. I drove over 2 hours to get him. My dog was in my car, up my shirt at 730pm. 11 weeks old at the time. Fck Rescues Organizations. 99% of the time, they judge who they think the dogs should go to, and sometimes have a “friend” adopt the dog for future sale. Also, when you want a dog, you want a dog. You don’t want to 1. Fill out application 2. Wait for application to be approved. 3. Wait for Home visit. By this time, the dog you fell for is LONG GONE, and they sucker or guilt shame you into taking a dog you never wanted. And you know what.....you fall in love with whatever dog you get. Meanwhile, every time you see the breed you wanted, you say, “next time I’m getting a chihuahua”. Also, if you get your puppy young enough, you can train them to be sweet and fun to friends and family. WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY! There are people that say, “puppy mill this, and puppy mill that”. You ARE rescuing a dog when you buy from a dealer, breeder or pet store. You’re just not buying someone else’s negligent consequences. Fck Rescues.

1. Chihuahua's have the longest life expectancy of all of the dog breeds. Make sure you are ready to take on that commitment.
2. I would say Make sure you socialize your chi just like a big dog. But be careful they are very small. the barking and nipping people always complain about in small dogs is actually called "fear aggression" . So just imagine being that small. Its pretty scary. Look into a local dog trainer/puppy school.
3. Feed large kibble size to small dogs and try to stay away from wet food. They have very bad teeth. The large kibble helps scrape plaque off of their teeth. You need to keep their teeth in good health. chihuahuas have the longest life span of any dog breed, but there teeth can start to fall out at age ten(they can live to be 20+).
4.They can suffer from hydrosephalus or water on the brain. Puppy mill dogs can have severe behavioural issues.
Only buy from a reputable breeder. Research the breeder before you buy.
5. It is sometimes harder to house train small dogs. never ever hit your dog while house training or push their nose into an accident. Small dogs are, well, small. A big dog understands that this is where they live, sleep, eat, so they shouldn't pee and poo there. But a small dog just thinks ,well I sleep in this one foot space and the rest is ok to pee in. A good strategy is to limit their indoor space to a very small space until you have a better handle on house training. Like they are only allowed in the living room. You can use a baby gate to keep them in one space.
