I’m reading ,The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel, by Douglas Brunt right now. Although Brunt does a great job of explaining the design and process of a Diesel engine in chapter 9, I am grateful to be able to watch a video such as this to help me grasp the concept a little better. Thank you for the educational content. Also, to anyone who is interested in history, I highly recommend this book. It is fascinating and I can’t put it down!
I drive mini-buses powered by diesel engines (either the 6.6 liter Duramax or a 6.0 Powerstroke) and am occasionally left in wonder that this works at all. It's astonishing engineering. Rudolf Diesel was a genius.
and thats how u clear the doubts of students and also students who have curiousity to know these kinds of stuff but dnt have knowledge. A very good video
This is a very clear and informative video. Now you could make a similar one with a spark plug and a carburetor for a four stroke PETROL engine. Thanks anyway.
A good video but a few minor errors, which may confuse/ mis-inform the masses. "Combustion of fuel generates energy. The thrust produced due to the combustion of fuel..." Rather..."Combustion of fuel energy. The produced due to the combustion of fuel..." Just trying to help.
this is so detailed! well done guys! I never understood exactly how the camshafts controlled the valves on the different strokes- it's very difficult to see how on a working engine. I was about to do more research until I saw this vid.. timing is everything ;-) cheers guys!
Thank you very much, that is very clear and nice presentation of the working process! Makes much more sense to me now. It's just awesome. Thanks again ! :)
grid heaters are only used in some motors too. not all diesel engines have them. every (direct injection) diesel motor from about 1980 and back just started off by its self, the compression temperature it raises and makes by itself of when the piston is compressing.
friend first of all your video is awesome, it can clear anybody's doubt about four stroke engine, i would highly appreciate, if you make the video for two stroke engine with timing diagram because i always have a doubt about two stroke engine, waiting for your video, again thanks alot
What mechanism prevents the exhaust valve from opening during the intake stroke? Also, what mechanism prevents the intake valve from opening during the exhaust stroke? If it is just a matter of air pressure differential then shouldn't both valves open and close simultaneously?
Awesome Video, with slow and detailed explaining (for curious people like me hehe)... I have one question though; Is there any difference at all between Diesel and Petrol/Gasoline engines? Because I saw a video very similar to this and inside the video, there was a spark plug in the place of the fuel injector (as in this vid) and I'm thinking, Diesel is AUTO ignited, and so then, Petrol/Gasoline is ignited by a spark plug?... If I may know if my thinking is correct or maybe I misunderstood... Thanx
Shahir Saad different from diesel engines, spark plugs are used in petrol engines. In petrol engines the air and fuel are mixed BEFORE entering the piston cylinder (unlike diesel engines, which the air and fuel mixes INSIDE the cylinder). So petrol engines don't rely the combustion to happen from compression, but rather the mixed air and fuel are ignited by the electricity from the spark plug. That's why petrol pistons and cylinders are wider in diameter and the strength and speed of the pistons are not as great as in diesels. Because they don't rely in compression, but rather from the electricity of the spark plug. Hope that makes sense.
+Automotive Basics AWESOME!!! i LOVE your videos, man! i was thinking of a water powered engine, instead of diesel. Diesel is bad for the enviorment. the water engine works by seperating H2 and O. then it goes to the generator, which will self ignite due to the bumping. then, comes hydrogen plasma, producing 10000 to 30000v. goes to the solenoid to subjecting with a extremely strong magnetic field. Due to high MF and pressure, it will move strongly, moving the truck or any dieseled engines. Thank you for participating. Hope you love it! :)
At the beginning of my Diesel mechanics training in 1985 I was taught the basics like this by our tutor: One stroke of a Diesel does this - Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow Diesels are still the best.
I usually don't comment on videos but this video compelled me to praise your efforts you've put in to make us understand every point clearly.
except that direction of rotation changes during the video. might confuse newcomers
ya his efforts are worthy a lot.

Clearest and best done explanation ever. No need of a voice... is everything there.
Most simple presentation but easiest way to catch up. Thanks a lot.

The best explanation so far for how does the piston works 👍🏻
This is the absolute best video I could've found regarding engines, thanks a lot

very helpful because of the detailed explaination of the 4 stroke. loved your video. And btw amazing guitar chords
Huuuuuuge thanks to this excellent video! Your efforts have made it possible for students to get clarity! Can't thank enough!
WOW! 1st time I have learnt the true meaning of 4 stroke engine. Thanks👍

Thank you so much. This video is very clear. This is the first time I understood it properly. Thanks again.
best animation in engineering I have ever seen👌👌👌👌👌

Lol. Many Amazing Engineering Animation Video in YT...
Great Video. Loved the coloring and labelling. It made it very easy to follow. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video. It helps me a lot to quickly grasp the idea of how a diesel engine works.

I have seen many animation videos of 4 stroke engine 😏
but this video is awesome and clear 😎😎👌👌
Best of the best videos on CI engine. NO doubt.
This is a very clear and informative video.

One of the best videon on diesel engine. Simple graphics and easy to understand. Thanks.
Beautiful. Well done. Very clear and a good re-run through at the end. Love the cruisy music too.
