  • TEEN TIME - Dance Contest
    This one's a Teen Time dance contest,
    judged by "The Four Guys,"
    with dancing to "Boogaloo Down Broadway"
    by the Fantastic Johnny C!
    and a Strawberry Alarmclock LP for the winners.
    Hosted by Del Curtis, this episode of Teen Time aired sometime around 1968 on WSTV-TV (now WTOV) in Steubenville, Ohio.
    Show intro:
    "Ladies and Gentlemen, for the next hour,
    you are "IN" with TEEN TIME!
    From the Satellite Discoteque,
    high atop Altamont Hill,
    it's TEEN TIME!
    And here's Mr. Teen Scene...
    Del Curtis!"

    It was a simpler, safer, happier and carefree time. We never worried about whether or not we would make it home if we walked three blocks from our house. Teens were rebellious (they always are), but they weren't as violent as teens are today. We respected the law, and for the most part, respected our parents. I am happy that I was a teen when it was fun to be a teen.

    Interesting. Thanks for the info! I really do not know much about the show other than they invited kids from local schools to come and dance. I do not think that they had regulars but I am sure several people were on it a few times. I think my mom said she went a few times. This video was probably from 1967 or1968 b/c I am pretty sure that my mom was a sophomore in HS.

    I'm a grandma that used to do the boogaloo but to faster music! The winning girl does it correctly and the young boy has the best foot work but his arm movement isn't right. Most of the boogaloo videos on youtube are not doing the dance correctly. This is the first one I found that is correct but faster music helps you move your shoulders more. It's more of an upper body movement dance than footwork except for sliding your feet. It's not an easy dance to learn.

    • @richardleonard4281
      @richardleonard4281 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree I'm 65 and danced to this music many times,while this is not the greatest dancing it is the only accurate example I have found of the way kids danced in the late 60's. The brunette who wins is clearly the best.

    • @avp0713
      @avp0713 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +homedecorable - I've looked at maybe 10 different "Boogaloo" videos, but they're all the "newer" ... "Electric Boogaloo" style that originated in the early 80's. As you said, this is the only video that shows the actual moves of the Boogaloo dance from the mid '60's.

    • @trishellenc5141
      @trishellenc5141 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DJ Tony Vito It's nice to see a few of us still around to set the record straight! Electric Boogaloo might have been for the 80s but so unlike the original from the 60s. No fancy footwork, mostly upper body rhythm that takes a while to master.

    That's really true! I wish I could have grown up during that period. I think that we need to bring dancing shows like these back. I mean, there are still a lot of dance fads today, and it'd be fun to learn older dances, too. It seems that 50s and 60s fashion trends are returning this year, though; I've even seen a few people sporting cat-eye glasses and was in an issue of Teen Vogue. Although, a lot of negative things went on back then too, like the war and the struggle attaining civil rights.

    Dear Khultan,
    You ask a good question "Why did people vote for Nixon"?
    My memory of that era and what was going on leads me to conclude that older, "mainstream" Americans, were scared and fed up with race rioting, which affected many cities, of the hippie movement with it's drug culture, of anti war protest and sharply escalating street crime; something our police, courts and prison system at the time was not equipped to fully deal with. Voting for Nixon was a hope for a return to "normalcy"
