@@tdz69 I love the idea of a Discovery Series. It's asking a lot to find an unknown talent on a high level every 30 days, but any time it happens, absolutely.

The Spradlin family is freakishly talented and knows how to surround themselves with incredible people like Dylan. Awesome stuff. Thanks for recognizing them!
It goes to show how humble Rhett is to be able to give Dylan the kudos he deserves. It’s not easy as a guitarist to praise someone who is (in his own words) the slide guitarist he wants to be. High praise which is well deserved for Dylan as he is indeed an incredible slide player/musician and a great show of humility and genuine kindness on Rhett’s part to showcase Dylan on his own channel. Great watch.
Thank you for introducing this guy! He is unbelievable! I'm headed to FL from Portland, OR, on Thursday, and I am definitely taking a drive to Jacksonville to go see him if he is playing! I'll take some video and share it here if I make it to a show. I am a huge fan of the Allman Bros style of slide. He is literally on another level. Like outer space level! Thanks again, man! It's cool to see you super excited about another person's playing.
Hey Rhett, thanks again for exposing us to another great guitarist. Dylan has so much soul oozing from every pore of his body! It's apparent that he has concentrated on this certain style of playing and has honed it very sharp. He will surely go far the more exposure he gets! So thanks to you for introducing him to a wider audience. On the subject of Derek, he has had decades ( at this point in his life) of experience working on his unique style. On another note, (this comment is overdue) , but, at one point you said that nobody could ever sound like Duane Allman. I think Jack Pearson does a very good job! Rhett, your a great player also, so don't beat yourself up when learning someones licks or style, ok. I'm 64, and even after 54 years of playing, I'm not even going to think that I could come close to playing like Dylan, much less Derek or Duane! Thanks again, and take care!
Man I’ll never forget finding this dude on instagram, he completely opened up my mind to slide playing in such a unique way, blending that Duane and Derek sound with Sonny landreths behind the slide playing
My brother has played keys in Dylan’s band for a decade. I was headed up to see them once when Dylan was like 17, I play slide and am one you’d consider “good”. My brother was like, “you gotta hear this kid play slide.” I said, “he better than me?” My brother goes, “yup”. I go, “bullshit.” Like 30 seconds into their set I was like, oh he’s not only better than me, he’s so much better that I’m not going to catch him…ever haha. He’s as good as there is on that thing.
Hey friend! That’s me singing in the first video. I could say a million things about what a great person and guitar player Dylan is. BUT the band is Smokestack!
Thanks for sharing Dylan with us all on your channel. I agree that he is an exceptional artist and I thank you for sharing your platform with him! Kudos to you! 👏👏👏
As someone who just started getting into slide playing a couple months ago, I absolutely love this. Thanks for sharing, I now have another musician to aspire to play like. Your channel is what got me interested in slide to begin with. It's also awesome to see someone so skilled in standard tuning. So far I've only dabbled with alternate tunings a tiny bit, so I didn't want my inexperience in the tuning to deter me from playing so I've just been in standard while learning.
That young man is incredible! I can’t remember the last time I heard a young person play a fairly fast paced solo with fretted notes played THAT clearly, along with slide elements as well, and it come off that naturally. He’s got a seriously good feel and style - and it’s ALL his own! You can hear all sorts of influences in his playing, but what really hits my heart is how he’s made it all his own. That’s some real rarified air his music resides in. I hope to go hear this cat play sometime. Soon! 👏🏼❤️
Dylan is definitely a real deal and mastered his craft over the years. So glad for your recognition Dylan! I have talked w Dylan a little and he was helpful for me w things slide… and deserves all good vibes!
I like how when I click on one of these videos on Rhett's channel, it's never clickbait. It's always someone who really is an awesome guitarist. Pretty amazing that someone this good isn't already widely known given how eager fans are to find the next great guitar player. Hope I get a chance to see Dylan and Smokestack play sometime.
I stumbled across him yesterday while looking for slide guitar tutorials. I don't know whether to be inspired to learn or not even try. Seriously, he's fantastic and I look forward to watching all his vids & hope to see him & his band one day. The dude deserves world wide recognition, no doubt about that.
Dylan plays in a band called, Smokestack! Along with Jack Corcoran (Grinderswitch)and with some of the most talented musicians in the Jax area (Which is a lot!). If y'all get a chance to see them, Go! I try to see them at least once a month.
I’m a standard tuning slide guy also who was brought up on Duane Alman, Johnny Winter, etc. and am completely stunned at Dylan’s feel, chops, dexterity and original style of playing slide! Yes! And on the pinky!! 👍🏻 That allows the other fingers to get involved and that is VERY difficult to pull off! Thank you Rhett for showcasing Dylan’s amazing and killer talents!!
Thank you Rhett, for not only hippin' us to Dylan, but also for being so generous and kind to use your platform to give him some exposure to all of us that follow you. Total respect for you and Dylan!! ✌️💙💪
That was truly amazing, I had one of those moving towards the screen moments where your eyes don’t believe what you ears are hearing (if that makes sense) and you need to check closely. It’s not everyday you see and hear something you’ve not seen/heard before. Thanks for sharing, Rhett.
Rhett every time you do these videos I always get hooked to the artist. Makes me such a better player by trying to learn their stuff. Thank you so much man
One of the things that makes his playing great is an "uncanny" to play "singable hornlike phrases that logically and lyrically progresses from one bar to the next - while being funky and impeccable. He has an incredible ear
I immediately recognized that tone, but I hadnt't heard it so long...Duane Allman. This young man has his own sound for sure & I'm so glad to hear the slide being played with this tone again.I remember an interview with Duane once where he said when he played slide.he was going for that amplified harp tone that Muddy Waters & other blues greats got. But Dylan, you have your own sound and a tremendous amount of soul in your playing. And your band is great too! You got it all man, keep on sliding!
Quite a Gem indeed! Mixing EADGBE with slide and some fantastic finger picking, just awesome. Always makes me happy to hear some good old southern rock being played at this level. Can’t wait for the tour.
Rhett, I echo what others have said, your enthusiasm, and promotion of this kid are genuinely moving. Well done. You gained a subscriber (I have been a “lurker” for years.) Cheers. JSH
It's awesome to see a guitar player that really knows how to convey phrases that tell a story, not like some if those shredders that play a million miles an hour, but are flat and bland, thanks for sharing, will definitely follow!🤘
Wow, incredible playing. Warren Haynes also plays slide in standard tuning. On the flip side, Derek Trucks plays both slide and non-slide in open E (whereas Duane would play slide in open E and non-slide in standard). When you watch Derek play some of his non-slide solos and realize he's playing in open tuning, it's pretty amazing.
Correct. I learned to play slide listening to Duane back when I used to have my dad drive me to Jacksonville to see them. I was always amazed he used the open E instead of the open G that most slide players used. Of course, Derek Trucks being a student of Duane's style would also use the open E tuning, but carried it a step further. Besides Warren and now this young man, you see very few slide players using a standard tuning because of the complexity of doing the slide runs and single note picking. Much harder to do.
Boy you're not kidding, he is a sensational player! I love the hybrid thing but as you say the fact that he's in standard tuning is really intriguing because it means you don't have to relearn the note placement on the neck or retune. Also, how cool of you to feature him, a relatively unknown player, and encourage people to check him out. With a mere 24 followers on TH-cam I dream of the day when someone uses their platform to do the same for me.
His fretted/slide combo sometimes even has a fiddle-like take and tone. Amazing. Thanks for highlighting this player. Dylan is someone the slide blues guitar world now has to reckon with.
If Dylan is still with the same band the other guitarist, Jack Corcoran, is a monster too. We have a lot of beastly players from Jax. Check out Noah Green and Zack Gibbs for a couple of the younger monsters.
Dude blows minds, what a beast! Thanks and congrats for that Rhett, its beautiful guys with that high reach as yourself throwing light in some of those unknown, yet awesome players. Zero ego, thats amazing!
I've been in love with slide guitar playing, and I don't know how or why it started since the music I grew up with doesn't include slide at all. But it always felt like such a badass sound, that swampy blues playing. I wish I could get there too lol, it's probably why I started learning how to play guitar.
I follow this guy on TT. His licks are crazy. I've never seen anyone do solo's that fast with no pick, fingers and a slide limiting the extra finger. Well done.
I don't know enough to judge the talent and skill of this gentleman but I can't help but smile at hearing your enthusiasm and praise for someone else´s music and ability - you are great person, Rhett...thanks!
So killer, man! We went to high school together, and graduated in the same class. I remember one year watching him jam on his driveway all night on the Fourth of July. Good to know he’s still shredding, I wish I could play like that!
I went with some friends to see a show at Berklee a couple years ago and I remember being totally blown away by his soulful playing and technical mastery. I literally had no clue who or what I was going to see that night, and wow I am so glad I went!! Rock on Dylan and Rhett 👊🏻
Rhett, good on you, man. I know lately, you've mentioned how you feel like the dog who caught the car and feeling unsure of what's to come.. While I don't know how it feels to be exactly in your shoes, I can honestly say that "TH-camrs" or "influencers" or whatever you call what it is you do now... folks like you are the ones that deserve the attention they garner online. Your content is unique to you, in your own voice, and you never appear to make yourself out to be something you're not. And coming from a long, long-time fan -- potentially in the first few hundred to be honest -- the people who've trashed you over the years have genuinely just wished they were you. Even from the get-go. Seeing you now use your platform to highlight other talents like Dylan is amazing, and just proves that you're someone worth supporting and that you're in it for the right reasons. Good on you, man. And yes, Dylan is jaw dropping-ly good. Great. Truly great. Would not be surprised to see him on stage with the aforementioned legends VERY soon. Holy shit.
Beautiful! Using the Sonny Landreth style of playing with fingers behind the slide! I also checked out a few of videos on his TH-cam channel. He has a Bebop style lide tune that just blew me away! What an amazing talent! What is it about the water in Jacksonville? So many great bands and players from there!
I am blown away and can imagine this guy in his bedroom at a younger age when the light bulb went off. He has a killer tone and unique style. Absolutely love it.
He's super down on Earth. He's gave my husband who's a soulful. Blues r and b legatarst advice and invite him to come down and jane with him and his been very, very humble down earth, man
Duane and Derek had a son and called him Dylan...Beautiful playing and incredible of you to use your platform to promote him. Keep up the great work, Rhett!
Good of you to shine some light on up-in-coming talents Rett... So, as your friend Rick was pointing out yesterday, "stirring the pot" if you don't mind... let the A.I. try to keep up with this!! What A.I. doesn't have and will NEVER have is: "heart"...
when you speak to this guy, he's gonna say Lowell. seems like a lot of folks have forgotten Lowell. this man, Dylan, has not forgotten Lowell. i hear him loud & clear. [subscribed]
So cool that then 11 months later Dylan and Rhett post an amazing and inspiring live performance collab! The world works in mysterious and wonderful ways.
It's was great to see the Rhett's "stank face" of approval. You know you're doing well when you get a stank face and grooving head bob from another musician.
Reminds me SO much of Warren Haynes' slide playing as well. It was intoxicating watching him play with The Allman Brothers on stage at HOB in New Orleans in 1995. This guitarist parallels his style.
Dude what an amazing and awesome guitar player! Thanks for the video Rhett, I think more people with your reach should do this! Introducing to your viewers exciting and amazing musicians is what youtube should be for man! Massive respect for giving Dylan the shout-out he truly deserves. Gonna be listening to his stuff for sure!
When I see something like this, I remember why we live in an amazing time, I would never been able to see something like this without the internet! Thanks for highlighting such a jem,
@Rhett amazing talent. You need to get this guy connected if he isn't already. The whole world needs to hear playing like that. from my little corner of Scotland, thanks for sharing.
What happens outside the recognition of the recording industry is something that needs to be made more widely known. Peeps that can play are often not made known by the powers that be. Thank you Rhett!
Thank you Rhett for featuring an exceptional, yet undiscovered guitarist with a distinctive style. In addition to the influences you mentioned, I am hearing shades of Lowell George (Little Feat) and Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones). I will definitely follow Dylan Adams.
Your right......every note is perfect...its not just the slide...it the weaving of the solos going from great to greater. Thanks for the heads up....I'm following.
Just a full-on happy and inspiring video that highlights the benefits of social media amidst a wave of negativity. Rhett is more than a guitarist he's a great communicator, and Dylan Adams is quite clearly incredible.
Hi Rhett, This reminds me a lot of a guitar player from Vancouver named Sean Vereault. His Band is Wide Mouth Mason. Sean was doing this hybrid slide and working on creating a triple slide technique on lap steel. Although Dylans style is a bit more fluid and a bit more soulful. Great sound and Playing. Thanks for highlighting this artist and Band.
And that is REAL slide guitar playing. I love that this is a REAL guitar player in a REAL band in 2022. No A.I., LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. Real human being talent. PLAY ON, MR. ADAMS!
Dylan is the real deal and one of the nicest guys you'll even talk to. If you're even in the Jacksonville / St. Augustine area, go see him play with Smokestack. Also they are playing at the Big House Museum in Macon in June!
I knew within 5 seconds I'd be a massive fan. The best a player can do is play licks that a singer would sing to / play as if what is being heard from a voice. Wow!

Well done.
he's fretting at least 50% of the time... and it' seamless... and his playing is very very CLEAN.... this guy needs more exposure..
I don't know enough to judge the talent and skill of this gentleman but I can't help but smile at hearing your enthusiasm and praise for someone else´s music and ability - you are great person, Rhett...thanks!
The thousands and thousands of hours he’s put into playing the guitar really shows. Truly inspiring
Huh?
@@thomasbonnett4800 what's confusing about this statement?
👆👆Congrats you have selected among our shortlisted winner's......
I knew a guitar teacher who had a small framed motto hanging on his wall that plainly stated, “Practice or Suck.”
So killer, man! We went to high school together, and graduated in the same class. I remember one year watching him jam on his driveway all night on the Fourth of July. Good to know he’s still shredding, I wish I could play like that!
Dude great to see you here Shane! Hope you’re well 🤙🏻
Couldn't find him on Spotify. Somebody get this guy -and his incredible band- into a recording studio! (Rhett, hurry up and finish yours!)
I working on it!! And way ahead of you with this idea lol
I went with some friends to see a show at Berklee a couple years ago and I remember being totally blown away by his soulful playing and technical mastery. I literally had no clue who or what I was going to see that night, and wow I am so glad I went!! Rock on Dylan and Rhett 👊🏻
You forgot Lowell George! I can hear Little Feat in his playing, and it’s incredible!
No he didn't...lol
Holy shit.
Saw this guy on Zac’s Instagram yesterday and as soon as I heard I guessed they’d be a video on him. Unbelievable slide playing. 🤩🤩🤩
Beautiful! Using the Sonny Landreth style of playing with fingers behind the slide! I also checked out a few of videos on his TH-cam channel. He has a Bebop style lide tune that just blew me away! What an amazing talent! What is it about the water in Jacksonville? So many great bands and players from there!
I saw another video by him recently. Totally agree Rhett. He flows from one phrase to the next with no slop. Very creative
I am blown away and can imagine this guy in his bedroom at a younger age when the light bulb went off. He has a killer tone and unique style. Absolutely love it.
👆👆Congrats you have selected among our shortlisted winner's......
I met Dylan at a Guitar Center not only is he talented guitar player but nice person as well. I’m a fan!
This artist spotlight format is so so so much better than all the other low effort "reaction" videos a lot of channels put out.
The fact that the first clip was “liked” by Joey Landreth tells you all you need to know. This guy is amazing 😎🤘🎸
So cool that then 11 months later Dylan and Rhett post an amazing and inspiring live performance collab! The world works in mysterious and wonderful ways.
It's was great to see the Rhett's "stank face" of approval. You know you're doing well when you get a stank face and grooving head bob from another musician.
This is what I LOVE about musicians like yourself, Pete, Bukovac, you have NO HUGE EGOS! You give credit where do! THANK YOU!!!!!
Man went through like 4 different stank faces. You know it's the good stuff.
Best Stank Face I've ever seen!
Reminds me SO much of Warren Haynes' slide playing as well. It was intoxicating watching him play with The Allman Brothers on stage at HOB in New Orleans in 1995. This guitarist parallels his style.
God I’m so glad you did this. I’ve been saying this for months now.
Edit: have him on Dipped In Tone, Rhett!
Thanks Rhett.....You are AMAZING....and now I have to go check out Dylan. Played for 50 years. having fun....wish I had a fraction of y'alls talent!
My two fave relatively unknowns are Sadler Vaden and Erick Steckel. Joanna Connor is unreal too.
Anyone covering Duane allman slide parts on Aretha Franklins version of “the weight” is up there in my book
When I see something like this, I remember why we live in an amazing time, I would never been able to see something like this without the internet! Thanks for highlighting such a jem,
His slide tone is almost as good as Josh Scott's.
Shots Fired!!!!
Yeah, that Kemper slide tone is hard to beat. 😄
Good on ya, Rhett! Thanks for the upload/share of Dylan & his music, his band too! Awesome, awesome stuff for sure!
Definitely Duane Allman vibes !!!
That is what I was thinking
Guy is great, but man do I love you showcasing a talented player that’s not necessarily a big social media player. Love everything about this!
I saw this on Instagram. Duane Allman vibes…
@Rhett amazing talent. You need to get this guy connected if he isn't already. The whole world needs to hear playing like that. from my little corner of Scotland, thanks for sharing.
I started to follow Dylan about a month ago and I haven't been able to stop watching his videos. Dude is off the charts amazing!
Good god man! Dylan's a beast. Thank you for the find, feedback, and breakdown Rhett!
Good for you Rhett! Way to help out someone else..it's great to see the enthusiasm and generosity!..so classy and cool! Keep it up!
ADAMS!
I'm also hearing a lot of Lowell George and Little Feat here, but with a LOT more technical ability without losing the soul. Great stuff.
Dylan is the real deal and one of the nicest guys you'll even talk to. If you're even in the Jacksonville / St. Augustine area, go see him play with Smokestack. Also they are playing at the Big House Museum in Macon in June!
When I saw his performance video "Shuffle in B Flat jam" on TH-cam, I wondered why he didn't get any attention.
His performance is so wonderful!
Really great of you to shine a light on him. Yes, so incredible. Thanks for sharing!
I knew within 5 seconds I'd be a massive fan. The best a player can do is play licks that a singer would sing to / play as if what is being heard from a voice. Wow!
Jacksonville Fla home of the guitar army ,of course this guy picks up all those good vibes from back then.
Keep it coming..
