Man, I still remember spending every day of the summer of '86 at a friend's house, graph paper covering the back wall, going screen by screen marking off every secret and its contents. We got started on the dungeons too, but ran out of time. Some random trivia: According to the Nintendo Power player's guide for LoZ, there were supposed to be two 100 Rupee caves in Overworld 1, and two in Overworld 2, but the official release of the game, something got glitched, so there are 3 100 Rupee caves in Overworld 1, and only one in Overworld 2. The cave behind the tree one screen north of the heart container near the Southeast corner was intended for Overworld 2.
Whoa, really? That's super interesting about the 100 rupee secrets. I've wondered why there's only one in the 2nd Quest - but eventually I just assumed it was another way they made that quest more difficult. I wonder what that cave would have been in the 1st Quest if not a secret? I suppose it would be whatever it is in the 2nd Quest...

New subscriber. Thanks so much for this series. I played the hell out of this game as a kid, but never could beat it. Kept getting lost and giving up, only to come back a month later to start a new save state 😂
I go all the way NE, get the 100 secret up there, grab the note, and the heart containers, as well as the sword. As I’m going, I grab the 10&30 secrets as well, and get the blue ring before I even go in dungeon 1. Then, I breeze through dungeons 1-4, and the. Go get the last 2 overworld heart containers, then you can get the magic sword and power bracelet to open the warp area, that’s important, because 1 drops you right by a fairy pond, one close to level 5, one close to level 6, and the last down on money row, as mentioned in the first video.
Almost every room in the far right column in level 2 can be connected with bombs so it can be fully explored and save keys while collecting and exploring
These guides are amazing! The first video is the first I've watched of the channel. I'm playing on a NES classic as well. Anyway long story short. I had the game when 24yrs ago. And I never beat it. So thanks for supplying the help. 😁

I really like these videos! You came up on my suggested and I love the nostalgia. One suggestion I have is making the titles easier to recognize as being part of a series. It was hard for me to figure out where part 2 and 3 were originally!
The manji actually resembles the German war symbol the swasitka, sorry if the spelling is wrong, but it is the manji. The levels are Eagle, Moon, Manji, Snake, Lizard,, Dragon, Demon, Lion and Death Mountain. All for what they resembline, the outline of .. In the second quest of the game, five levels spell out Zelda, Level 5 (Z), 1 (E), 3 (L), 4 (D), and 2 (A). If you want to access the second quest from the name screen write Zelda, or just wait until you beat the first quest.
The Swastika is an ancient symbol used by the Jains in India who practice an extreme form of non-violence. Jainism pre-dates Buddhism by thousands of years, possibly. The Buddha studied under the Jains on his quest for enlightenment.

2 observations: 1) You should use your boomerang more than your sword. 2) Farm level 2 while you're there, it's the quickest way to make money. The trick is to let the snakes rush you, stun 'em repeatedly with your boomerang so they stack up, and kill them all with one stab.
I'm jealous of your math skills! It's just never clicked with me (geometry was ok, but the other types NOPE!). I first started college to go into pharmacy, but then I realized much math I'd have to take. But I'm very good with language and linguistics and that's just what I decided to dedicate myself to!
You re right on maths, most teachers are jaded to teach the fundamentals and basics to figure out the higher equations and logic. Bad teachers all around, bad English or whatever your language is, mine French, is no prob because we have tons of novelists, rappers, etc. Idk why maths teachers don't even give the definition of a variable or the meanings of the signs. Then they just ask to identify a problem setting and paste the equation on that.
It takes time to get the blue ring because those caves are in the underworld. when you are in the cellar of dungeon 9, you are (according to the game) in the overworld, where change can happen Immediately!
I went back to college at age 32 to get an engineering degree in Computer Science and I found learning the mathematics involved with C.S. to be a most difficult challenge. Still, I use that math to this day and I'm glad I took the time to learn it.
Just a theory on the red and blue rings, maybe there was a bug with the red one. Seeing that the money counts down or maybe because it in a cave (who knows). the game may have had chances of locking-up, so they just not had the colours refresh in the cave. the blue one didn't have a problems so they left that one alone.. purely guessing but I think that would happen if the game was almost completed and then they found a problem with the red ring..
Also carefully placed bombs (aka as long as you don't directly face them when placing bombs) will kill darknut(s) in one blow... With luck the entire room can be cleared in one bomb
16:20 I notice that the dot on the map matches Link’s tunic color, green before getting the ring, and then changes when you leave. That makes me think that the map and tunic use the same color on the palette. Maybe the map can’t update when you’re in a secret cave or room? And therefore the palette doesn’t change until you leave to the overworld and it updates then? Having never gotten around to playing this one, and never watching it all the way through before either, I don’t know if the second ring is in a place where the map is capable of updating on the spot and therefore fitting my theory or not, but it’s an idea.

I wasn't ready for it yet and switched to an easier math class so I wouldn't get an F on my report card. I took algebra in highschool though (skipped pre) and I did ok, just ok though, like a C. There is an easier way to get ruby's on the switch. Go to the money making game with the old man when you walk in, save the game. Then chose one of the ruby's if you hit the wrong one go back and load the saved game. Then chose the correct one.
The one you bombed and said was just a shop is actually a 30 rupee secret. Was thinking maybe you were mistaken it for the money making game that is down one screen and one over to the left.
I was never intimidated by math. I have dyscalculia (the math version of dyslexia) and no one cared to diagnose me until I was in college and had failed basic math three times. I was told I was lazy all my life and it turns out I have a disability. I know all the formulas, but I can do the same problem 10 times, get seven different answers and never know I've done the same problem more than once.

Thats crazy i had the same thing happen with my nes classic they had 5 at game stop and they hid 2 but the manager pulled the last 2 out and me and my dad bought them they said only one per customer but the guy at the register had 2 stashed i guess for his friends or something anyways i took mine home and found out i could hack it now i have every nes game besides alot of the sports games even got a few home brews and hacks so i called my dad and hacked his nes mini and his snes mini but i guess the snes libary i downloaded was to big of a file because i only have 100 games on my snes classic its cool tho i can always download the snes libary somewhere else and reflash it
I hope they make a n64 classic and let i be able to be hacked like the nes and snes classic that would be awesome or even a dreamcast i wonder if the sega mini could be flashed ill have to look into that i might get one then

Dude, you're on an NES Classic; you have save states. Money making game is a guaranteed way to max out your rupies. -- Also if you're going to explain 2 ^ 8 = 256 then you shoukd explain the significance of 8. (The NES can only do math 8-bits at a time; because it has an 8-bit processor.)

6:15 Manhandla can be defeated if bombed in the dark blue center of his body...although it can be somewhat of a challenge if not timed precisely.

I notice that the dot on the map matches Link’s tunic color, green before getting the ring, and then changes when you leave. That makes me think that the map and tunic use the same color on the palette. Maybe the map can’t update when you’re in a secret cave or room? And therefore the palette doesn’t change until you leave to the overworld and it updates then?
Having never gotten around to playing this one, and never watching it all the way through before either, I don’t know if the second ring is in a place where the map is capable of updating on the spot and therefore fitting my theory or not, but it’s an idea.
That's an interesting theory. The second ring is in a downstairs room inside of a dungeon, so that might work well with your idea.
Don’t forget using the boomerang on some of your enemies stops them so you can kill ‘em.

The worst things in this game are that you spawn with three health when you die, and the bow needs rupees.

Dude, you're on an NES Classic; you have save states. Money making game is a guaranteed way to max out your rupies. -- Also if you're going to explain 2 ^ 8 = 256 then you shoukd explain the significance of 8. (The NES can only do math 8-bits at a time; because it has an 8-bit processor.)
