    My early Zelda experience was around 1988... my Dad and I played this game so much to the point we got a sketch book and made our own overworld and underworld maps... drawn by hand with our own legends of what ment what. We mapped out the underworld levels after we got the maps and compasses in the levels. It took us weeks to beat the game and find all the secrets. But after we beat Gannon and got the red ring we were mighty surprised to play the second Quest and opened a can of whoop ass on it! My Dad and I played the shit out of Zelda, Mario, and Duck Hunt. One of my many fond memories growing up in the 80s and 90s.

      That's outstanding! Thanks for sharing. I think that's the kind of in-person cooperation and gameplay Nintendo has always hoped for. I remember discussing with classmates on Mondays who-found-what over the weekend. :)

      I worked at Nintendo when Zelda was released. (Power Magazine) I had the same 1/4" square graph paper drawings of every dungeon as I explored it. I still have them, today. Intensely good game. My switch says I've played 950 hours of BotW. Time flies.

    Replayed this for the first time since I was a kid, so like twenty five years ago. The game is still a lot of fun, even knowing all the secrets. It took me over 6 hours to beat and 15 lives to do it; no cheats utilizing glitches and beat each level in order, and no second controller resets.

    Hey just leaving a friendly tip! You're able to get the upgraded sword shield, get the ring before the first dungeon. There are 3 hidden places where you are given 100 rupees! 2 spots you are needing to burn a Bush but over where you get your heart container by the desert you can keep going further east and there's a secrecy walkway that isn't visible where you can walk up and you'll talk to an old man and he'll give you 100 Rupees!

    Yeah, in Zelda 1 anymore, I always get the three Heart Containers, the White Sword, the big shield, the Power Bracelet, Candle, bombs, then explore all of the overworld, killing all but one enemy per screen, then dip into Dungeon 8 doing what I can do there, all before ever setting foot in Dungeon 1 XD

    To answer your questions, I was randomly recommended your video. I decided to watch because the original Zelda was my favorite game as a kid. My sister and I used to stay up so late playing, going back and forth with each other's saved games. I have a lot of great memories attached to this game. Sadly I lost my sister back in 2003, but the game always brings be back to those long 80's and 90's nights. So I thought I would give your video a watch to see if you knew all the secrets we did. I remember being stuck on Level 7 for a month! We just couldn't figure it out. Then I came across a Nintendo Power issue that had full game cheats for a bunch of games, all the Mario's at that point which was 1-3, all the Disney Afternoon games, Legend of Zelda of course and Adventures of Link. There were other games I wasn't familiar with too, but I dont remember which they were. I don't see how we could have gotten through Level 7 finally without it or eventually Level 9! Plus the secondary quest. Sorry this is so long, but you asked what made us watch. Thank you for this video. It has brought back a lot of good memories. I can't get to my NES right now or I would break mine out and play a set. My biggest claim to fame with the game is that I was able to beat the first quest in only 3 lives! I did the grinding of Level 2 and Money Row as you called it, good name btw, and got the blue ring straight away and was just damn lucky. I'm off to watch your next video now. Consider me your newest Basment Dweller.

    OH MY GOSH IT'S A JUST PETER VIDEO! Ooohh this is so amazing! You know Keen Eye is actually doing a Let's Play on this very game on the NES classic! Weird huh?
    3:57 The superflouous stopwatch returns!
    5:03 omg I've never known that! Thank you for telling me!
    6:26 Goriah Carey LOL
    6:57 FAIRY GOD PARENTS! *spazzes*
    7:42 Omg the Sunday Longplays are just you?? Well I should really check out more of these when i have the time haha
    13:54 look how skewed Link's face looks.. it's hilarious omg!
    14:56 I've just realized that the blue "rectangle map" up there for the first dungeon looks like someone pointing a blaster while jumping
    16:18 Your guess is correct~
    17:28 You should've called them "Easy Street" LOL
    18:44 *acts all dodgy - gets hit anyways* AGH!
    20:16 I'm actually doing pretty well~ How about you?? I've finished putting together my Christmas list and I've just noticed that a lot of people are uploading Zelda videos this time of year... strange
    20:35 I remember my first video.. I was playing Adventure Island for the NES on my computer and got stuck, so I looked for a Let's Play and yours was the first that came up I think.. I'm not sure if I started on the 2nd video or not.. but I got hooked, and now I'm here, happy to be a Basement Dweller~ Since... April I think
    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! My brother Ryan was playing the original Legend of Zelda earlier with the actual NES cartridge that my uncle has, and he was having so much trouble.. this should help him a lot, so thank you sir Peter c: You rule! Best wishes to miss Kelsey and the kids!

    Okay, the story of how I found this video is very funny, I have the nintendo switch online and for almost a year I have been playing random online games and among them is Zelda, when I was playing I did not know anything about the game and somehow I managed to pass the first dungeon with three wooden sword hearts and without bombs, the game became somewhat confusing and complicated for me and I did not play it for a while today I decided to play again and somehow I found the sixth dungeon and I "ME PARTIERON LA MADRE", then I gave up and looked for help to get containers of hearts and ended up finding you.

      @@The8asement - super appreciate the reply! I'm pretty new to the channel, but have been watching a lot of the vids. Maybe you could see if anyone else is interested in more LTTP content. I'm a software engineer and haven't played games in years- but have recently been trying to get back to the games of my childhood... I really really loved this video, it helped me get passed the first few dungeons (which I couldn't do back when I was 8, lol)....

    Here's a (sort of full) list of stuff you can do before even entering Level 1:
    1. Get the sword (duh.)
    2. Get bombs (Blue Octoroks/shop located on eastmost path from starting area. 20 Rupees for 4 bombs.)
    3. 2/5 Heart Containers (use bombs on walls)
    4. Get White Sword (5 hearts needed)
    5. Blue Candle (one of the secret stairs, when revealed by burning a particular bush, has a decent priced Magical Shield for 90 Rupees)
    6. Blue Ring (in secret shop beneath one of the statues, costs 250 Rupees. Best if you either grind for them or play money-making game if you're lucky.)
    7. Enemy Bait (around 60-100 Rupees, depending on the shop. Save it for Level 7.)
    8. Arrows (80 Rupees. Bow will be found in Level 1 if you look around enough. Needed for Level 6 Boss, Gohma and the rematches in later dungeons)
    LMK if I missed anything else.

    • @The8asement
      @The8asement  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good list.
      You can also get the power bracelet, then unlock fast travel. You can get the note, then the medicine. You can get an extra heart container by using the blue candle.
      If you really wanted to, you could go get the magic book. With 6 hearts, 8 bombs, the white sword and the blue ring, it's not so bad.

    This is my first video with you guys. Great stuff here. I've been playing TLOZ since 1988. Also, getting the "A" Key from Dungeon 8 is always good too. You can just pop in to Dungeon 8 and it's to your left when you enter. Get it and get out. This makes all Dungeons easier eliminating the need for keys.

    • @The8asement

      Hello, and welcome!
      I thought it was the Magic Book that was easy to grab in Dungeon 8 (two rooms left of entrance). I usually do grab that early, but only just before Dungeon 6 (Magic Wand) because the Book is useless without the Wand.

I've also learned how to beat the entire game without dying wants at least round one anyways still learning about round 2

    Other secrets in level 1 is several walls are bombable which saves keys as well (such as the 3rd room up from the entrance the north wall can be bombed to lead to the room with the map... And i believe the compass room north wall can also be bombed as well saving yet another key)

    There's another way to go back to spawn or the dungeon entrance than death. Press Start on player 1 controller, then Up+A on the player 2 controller. I know this video is a couple years old, but I just wanted to give you a tip.

  • @renevious
    @renevious 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    as soon as you get your first heart container, you can get the white sword. once you have that, just go straight to level 3. the first room you come to with those grimace from mcdonald's blob looking things, with the white sword you can kill them with one hit. They will dump out infinite rupees. just kill all of them in the room, exit, rinse and repeat until you're maxed out. it'll save you from going all over the map to find the hidden rupee locations. it's basically the equivalent of the room outside hyrule castle with all the pots in ocarina of time.

    • @The8asement
      @The8asement  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good rupee grinding strategy, but don't you need a total of FIVE hearts to get the white sword?

    • @palephoenix4194
      @palephoenix4194 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need five hearts to obtain the White Sword and twelve to get the Magic Sword. That is, unless you're playing Zelda 1 Randomizer.

    • @renevious
      @renevious 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My mistake about the sword. But yeah, I definitely recommend this strategy when you do have the white sword for getting rupees at any point during the game. Great video BTW
