    Hi everyone I drive the automatic mx5 and it goes around corners just as well as the manual I drive the automatic due to an accident at work and my left leg no longer works like it should. I have had many automatics over the years and the mx5 box’s work spot on and been very happy with the way it works. My previous car was a Porsche 2.7 tiptronic and I find the mx5 just as much fun as that car with the added advantage of cheaper service costs and more reliable. Don’t knock the automatic until you have tried it. Mines just turned 40.000 miles and it’s a 2011 so I think it’s maybe due at 50.000 that’s another three years for me lol.

      I have a 2017 automatic MX-5 and I agree with you, the modern automatic is actually really good. It shifts fast and there is less delay in sound which makes it sound better than a manual when shifting, in my opinion. The NC Miata is nice but if you ever get a chance, try the ND.

    Amazingly detailed video, thank you for sharing. My 08 MX5 has just about 120,000 miles... probably time to due a fluid change. 😅

    2011 NC PRHT Auto trans. Dumb question. Car just turned 22K miles as I dont drive much and live on an island so no place to go. Anyway, since buying I have changed oil, tires, struts due to a huge hole in the road. It suddenly hit me one day that while the miles were low I had exceeded the months element on my owners manual. Car drives well but I am wondering should change the AT fluid? Does it break down just due to time? Also, what other things would you suggest I do just for "insurance". Not realy a DIY guy. I have read the cooling system can have issues. My coolant tank looks a little yellow so I figure I will just replace that as well as the coolant. My AC is running but seems to be much less cool than it was initially. Likely low gas/coolant? I like this car and after a few years of health issues want to start to use it consistently again. Appreciate any input. Aloha.

    Thanks for the video. Subscribed. I know on the NB, three of the bolts that hold the filter on go through the control valve, two thread into the transmission body and the third has a nut on top of it that can fall off. Is that the case with the NC/ND filter bolts as well? Or did Mazda fix this absurd design flaw with the SJ6A-EL transmission?

    • @knowgearsknowglory2862

      Similarly a couple bolts go through the valve body but I don't think the rest apply.Maybe they learned?

    Dude, you made the best video for this job on TH-cam! I like that you also showed any mistakes or problems along the way. I have a 2017 ND Automatic Miata. Do you know if the NC and ND use the same transmission?

    • @knowgearsknowglory2862
      @knowgearsknowglory2862  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      thank you for that great compliment! My understanding it the transmissions between the generations are different. I don't have knowledge of how different they are.

      Same case, different torque converter. Otherwise the fluid is the same, and maintenance should be approached in the same way

    • @DaveSimkus
      @DaveSimkus 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @ADUSN Thanks. Just finished mine. I did a lot of research and found that Idemitsu Type TLS synthetic fluid is the absolute best. Also, there is a line pressure valve adjustment on the valve body that can be adjusted to a higher setting with just a flathead screwdriver and without taking the valve body out. I adjusted mine and can feel about a 10%-15% improvement in shifting firmness. If you drop the pan, there is no reason not to adjust this setting. Next step would be a shift kit but that could make it too harsh for normal driving.

    Hi question yes yesterday I noticed couple of spots of transmission fluid on the floor. I cleaned the floor put the car out side for about 2 hrs put cardboard on the floor ln the garage and put the car back in the garage looked under the car don’t see anything wet and no fluid on the cardboard. Sucks I’ll go to Mazda today to check the fluid how do you check it or is there an indication light something tells you that you have transmission warning it’s crazy thanks

    Thanks I took it to the dealer and it was the fill plug seal they said it would splash over and it was leaking from that 130 dollars no more transmission leak

    You mentioned the check to see if it’s full how won’t it come out if you pull the plug? And if I put jack under car won’t it give false reading?

    • @knowgearsknowglory2862
      @knowgearsknowglory2862  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the only way i know to check the fluid level is to pull the plug when at running temp and try to add fluid. if it runs out immediately its full.

    • @knowgearsknowglory2862
      @knowgearsknowglory2862  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      it was right in-between. the amount of fluid will vary. The trans will hold some fluid inside so the amount you put back in will vary.

    • @edwinstupka3645
      @edwinstupka3645 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's simple science.
      When the trans oil pan and filter are removed the refill capacity will be a specific amount.
      So far I haven't found an experienced transmission mechanic who has created a proper video that covers this critical fluid volume. Yikes!
