I believe the name of the "grind lines finish" you were looking for is a satin or belt satin finish. Belt satin & stonewash are my favs as well.
I found with the XM-18 no matter what size you get the detents vary, I have a couple that are so strong I can’t thumb flick them at all and then the others that are so easy to open with the thumb studs its crazy. The ones with the really strong detents I usually sand down the point on the flipper and it makes it so much more enjoyable and on the 3” It actually changes the ergos when I sand down that point. I’m sure people might think that’s crazy to do on a new knife, but it makes such a big difference. Sometimes you can play with the pivot, but with a super strong detent it doesn’t help to much and some you just need to break in. If you ever decided to get one you could ask the dealer to try a few and give you one with a softer detent. I definitely think Rick Hinderer needs to address theses issues tho.
Great review 👍🏼
I think what you do to your knives is great and never crazy, when you buy a knife the best way to get a connection with it and to enjoy the most out of it is to make it yours, im sure this one would eventually break in, and this is the first one ive handled that was this difficult to use the studs, although ive only handled like 4 or 5, I did try to flip it enough to break it in, but obviously its going to take sone time, If it was mine i would definitely do what you said and sand down the point a bit, and most likely it wouldnt take much to make a massive difference.
I love the size and beefiness of this knife. I think if I could get any hinder it would be a full track. Great review 👍
Yeah thats another one that is a beast of a knife, so you would pick the full track over all the other knives
I had the same issues with my zt0560bw and laid it back to 18 convex and it's night and day a better cutter. Made the bevel pretty big though.
Yeah that is what i did with the Jurassic and the bevel was big but a knife is only as good as its edge
Just got my XM24 from DLT today and came back here to tell you that HOLY MOLY that detent is no joke!!!!! It makes my XM18s feel like they are broken but also gives my finger some wicked arthritis LOL still love it.
😆, i have one now thats totally broken in and its super easy to use
Sebenza cuts really good, I'm really liking hollow grinds lately.
I know what you mean, there is some great companies doing flat grinds though
The budget priced Kershaw Agile, designed by Hinderer, also comes with a sharp, hooked flipper. Is not comfortable for repeated opening
Really, man I feel like so many companies are making comfortable flippers that this would be something that would get dealt with
It may be designed like that for gloves for a little extra bite.
They moved the stop pin on the xm 18 to the front why the 24 has not been idk, and I have seen videos where they had issues with sharpening and getting blade play
Really! Wow i know i have my own now and its great the detent is better than this one was, its the tri way and wierd thing that i noticed it doesn't have a lockbar steel insert, no stick very strong lockup but i thought that was interesting
Love my 24 I have the vintage version
Nice!
Wish I could get my hands on the 4" in canada
Just love it. Hates a strong word. Lol. On another note, liked your vids on knife sharpening. As a novice they are really informative. Just started honing my 8 or 9 folders. Hope to get as good as you. 👍
Thats awesome David, and i dont hate anything i just used the words, I definitely love though, theres a couple things that are irritating but id get over it pretty quickly
@@NeevesKnives I was j/k. More sharpening vids soon I hope. 👍
awesome looking knife. hinderer's are great
Yes they are, absolutely
I will have one. Oh yes, I will have one. Good job Jerad! ✌️
Yes you will Russ
And... do you have one?
Thanks. I have not been sold on the XM-24 yet. I did finally get a Spyderco Gail Bradley.
Be sure not to pry ANYTHING with that spydie...their tips are an absolute joke....
@@19Bearsfansince79 Isn't that why it's a knife and not a pry bar. Lol
@@DS..69 yes but the main difference between a Spyderco and a Hinderer, is quality. Most Hinderers can be used to open paint cans, pry apart door frames, pop zip ties, etc
Hell I've even heard of people putting them thru a car hood. You absolutely get what you pay for with knives, just have to be a smart consumer.
@@19Bearsfansince79 Well, I rather spend hinderer money on another gun. Remember, don't bring a knife to a gun fight.
Thats awesome, are you going to modd the liner? That is a great knife, and its a great cutter, slices and cuts fantastic the ergos are also great
Yeah, for that amount of money, I’d need to be able to open it without discomfort. I’m thinking about a lefty large Sebenza...
I actually tried a lefty small sebenza, whats cool is for me i can middle finger flick it, but for you it would just be normal
could someone explain the square recess on the reverse under the clip? Is this for weight reduction?
Thats for the clip to be flipped so you can carry it in a different direction, if im understanding correctly
@@NeevesKnives if you look closely the reversed clip is not even near that square. It doesn't reach it at all. I watched a lot of videos and found nothing in the net...
Nobody answered your question. The recessed square under the clip is so the lockbar will bend! If that recessed portion was not there and it was just thick titanium, it would be very difficult to bend the lockbar and open or close the knife.
I think the 24 would be too big for me but I like that little one....don’t own any Hinderers, I understand it’s the next step on the path to watches..... thanks for the video!
Try the xm 3.5, by far the most popular model.
@@19Bearsfansince79 thanks!
I was just watching a vid and I did not know you can sharepin a knife with a car window
Yeah you can sharpen on a lot of things but most things like a window are going to give you a micro bevel its not really sharpening, yes it makes the knife sharper because it makes a micro bevel, but you wouldnt sharpen you entire bevel that way but it works in a pinch
And the bottom of a coffee cup .
Good honest review. You told us the bad with the good, don't think there is any ugly, haha (movie reference).
Lol no its a great knife, but its difficult to understand why on earth with a hard use big knife like this, they would put such a sharp flipper, the 3.5 i thought was great, add 200 more pounds to the detent and...... 😆 obviously im exaggerating but its a simple fix imo and for such an expensive knife
I love my 24 want titanium skin...
I just don't understand why Rick doesn't listen to his fans. Hiz flipper tab is the worst part about the 12:20 knife
Hey I have a Benchmade Infidel I never used looking to trade it I have no use for it. I want something I can use everyday
Like what?
@@NeevesKnives trying to get a PM2 and a 550 griptilian for it. Are a PM3 something along them lines. But Offer me I’ll let you know if I’ll take it.
Give me a day or so to think about it and see what i have, because i dont have a pms
@@NeevesKnives ok thanks Bud
@@NeevesKnives I emailed you a bunch of pics of the Infidel
Yes you'll have a callous
ZTs 0308 flipper is perfect
The 308 is a beast great knife i was talking about it in my live tonight
I tried one at my closest retailer. It’s the best action
"I love big hardware."
That's what she said!
Yes she did
Half knife
I don’t usually leave a comment but here we go. 5, 6 sharpenings?? Dude in your lifetime u will never ever sharpen that blade down enough to reach that dot. And it’s not meant to be opened with the thumb studs because those aren’t thumb studs. It’s a blade stop. The knife is called a flipper for a reason, use it. The flipper has a more aggressive angle so it will work with gloves, as this is a Work knife. 🙄
Jarod is primarily a knife sharpener, he sharpens knives for many clients and therefore he doesn't really have the luxury to criticize an expensive model/brand knife because a if a viewer ( and possibly a potential customer? ) sees and hears him do so they may well not choose his service as they want their precious 500 $ knife to be sharpened by a fellow fan of that knife company, they want a person that will sharpen their knife/knives with " Love ", and this point of view makes sense to many and no sense to many as Jarod is a PROFESSIONAL knife sharpener and a consummate professional.
Imho Jarod does hold back on his opinions especially when it comes to very high end and costly knives and I understand why he does it but by doing so he also undermines his own integrity, but this again is far from uncommon in the knife business as keeping in favor with everyone is what increases your chances of making money.
Jarod isn't a knife designer, the stop pin is where it is because otherwise the flipper tab would be able to move past it, and it's acute termination is so that the blade is easier to deploy whilst wearing gloves, and many know people this and some have stated this already here in the comments.
By Jarod Supplementing his knife sharpening videos with knife reviews he gets alot more exposure, he's advertising his services which makes perfect business acumen but unfortunately doesn't make the knife reviews particularly objective because he doesn't want to alienate potential customers.
I like Jarod well enough, and when you cut out the backpeddling of his criticisms generally some decent data in obtainable from his vast experience of sharpening examples from a wide spectrum of knives.
Expensive piece of crap! Hard to center, heavy, doesn’t cut well.
dude, your girl should be on screen in every video. she is your biggest asset. tons of dudes on TH-cam. no girls. her face on screen every video and you will grow. the more she talks the better. husband awesome but girls are better get real. more Kara.
I know and she used to be but its just not possible, I get her on as much as possible i do many videos a week and im lucky to get her in 2 lives and an unboxing, but i dang sure try
Rick Hinderer makes a great knife but his actions show his level of concern for the end-user. I have made the personal decision to not buy any more of his knives.
Maybe the old ones but all the ones i have have incredible action, this one did have a strong detent mine however is perfection
@@NeevesKnives No I mean HIS actions. He doesn't care about the end-user. That's why he ships all his knives tip down. No one carries tip down - I know some do you they need to lay on a couch and talk to someone about it.
My only issue with Hinderer is they have crappy customer service, they have "been working on a more streamlined" discount program for First Responders, Law Enforcement & Military for years now.. which tells me that a program like that is not important to Hinderer.. EVERY respectable knife company has some type of program like that. I have exactly one Hinderer in the collection. And that's it for me. I sold two of them and kept one. They are nice, yes. But I don't respect the company/customer service at all. If you anodize your clip side scale.. it's a void warranty. Every reviewer says they have a great warranty, but they really don't. It's an extremely strict & picky warranty. They are definitely overhyped. Sellout within minutes. One of the biggest "secondary market price scalper knives" of all time. I'm fully convinced that Hinderer has a small side company hustle that buys a large majority of his knives back from knife vendors & then sells them on the secondary market for a nice fat profit. Like the old mafia scams that we see in the movies. The whole "tri wing pivot" system is a fun added sales/marketing bonus, but let be honest with ourselves. NOBODY rolls with nylon or phosphorus bronze washers in a Hinderer. It's bearings all day. Preferably ceramic. I always felt like I was missing out until I owned a couple Hinderer's & had to deal with customer service. It's comical how they will always revert you to TH-cam or knife forums instead of take care of the customer. They claim their knives are built to strict factory specifications, yet ALL three of my Hinderer knives had noticeably different detent levels (Zero Tolerance has superior detent consistency). Rick Hinderer reminds me of some greed driven cooperate oil tycoon.. who does some shady knife business.. which trickles down to a greedy company. Long story - short. Correct, they don't care about the end user. It's mind boggling that the knife community worships the company so heavily.
