If you're new around here, Venomoth is a Psychic/Flying type, you can't change my mind.
Thanks for the feedback on the intro. I feel the same way as you do about it. In case you're curious about some context: I wrote a script for the intro which isn't something I typically do anymore. I wanted it to serve as a "in medias res" start that felt jarring but then allowed me to loop back around and give extra context for these backports, especially when considering signature moves and how I will address them for the future of this series. I also wanted to take time to get new viewers accustomed to my approach before releasing 6 more backports over the coming week. After thinking through it, writing the intro, recording the audio, and Shawn/Eggsceptional doing all the editing work I didn't feel like it accomplished what I wanted. I felt the same way as all of you do. It felt too late in the production process to go back and change a major element of the video and so I decided to just go with it. While you've provided me with a lot of insight about why it didn't work, I knew these things already. I think the true piece of learning here is that it's never too late to completely dismantle something that isn't working and put it back together again.
Its fine :) The video is great and it doesn't really matter in the long run.
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon "in media res" I think is a fantastic idea, I would encourage you to give it another crack. I think if you keep playing around with it, you've got the instincts to figure out a delivery that gets the right effect. Ultimately, no matter what the Intro style is, the purpose is always to have the viewer ask, "What's next?" or in this case "How did we get here?". Whatever method you use to trigger that question, much like Veritasium, you get new viewers to dig deeper and really lock them into committing to the story you're looking to tell.
You're overthinking and only focuaing on the confused and negative comments. Its fine. Keep up the great work, you muchso much effort into this channel and it really shows
I understand (and largely agree with) your aversion to TH-cam video intros, although this video beginning in media res was a bit jarring.
I think I get what you were going for, but the Brock fight was quite dry. I reckon you’d need to start with a bit more of a bang for it to work; Annihilape absolutely dominating a later gym leader/rival battle, for example.
A clean sweep of OHKOs is easy to understand with little context, shows off the strength of the pokemon, and immediately gives an indication of the Pokémon’s general play style.
Alternatively, for a less capable pokemon, a point of high tension could work too - since it leaves the viewer wondering how you got there & what might happen next.
You’ve already provided this kind of intrigue in the intros of previous videos without beginning with gameplay, though. Having had a quick look, Furret v Raticate, Spinda, and Crystal Onix stick out as good examples imo.
Ultimately, though, I think the main issue for me is that there’s a lot of information thrown at the viewer as soon as the video starts, but no context to ground said info.
As an example, you say, “Remember, in generation 1, focus energy…” less than 10 seconds in - which doesn’t necessarily give enough time for a viewer to have digested the moveset, level, and stats - let alone consider what the best approach for Brock might be. I imagine it might be particularly confusing for those who tend to just listen to the videos.
I feel a major part of your videos is providing enough information for the viewer to make their own predictions, consider possible strategies, and immediately be able to understand the minutiae of the play through at a glance. So it seems kind of antithetical to start at Brock without any of the usual context.
Maybe I’m in the minority, but I’d honestly much prefer a video open with a run through of at least the starting movepool before any gameplay.
Regardless, love your videos man. Still insane to me that you maintain such a high standard of quality whilst uploading as regularly as you do!
I entirely agree
I also entirely agree.
You take this shit way too seriously dude
@@FernieAriel Nah, its not that deep. This was an intro that clearly didn’t work for a lot of people, I just tried to clearly & constructively lay out why.
Tried something new, missed the mark. Didn’t achieve was I was going for in many ways.
The intro bit would've worked better (read: at all) if it showed the pokemon being absolutely dumpstered by an unassuming enemy.
The video starts a couple of minutes into the playthrough
edit: Oh you meant to do that
I don't believe you. Haha. It happens. you can only legally see these issues after you hit post
Almost just clicked off the video until this comment. Not a good intro.
I mean this to be positive criticism as a Scott fan but the whole “Yep, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I got here, so let’s go back” thing ain’t it
Same here, when movies does this they at least have a pan in or something that makes you feel tat even if you are in the middle of the action you're still at the "start"@igiveyoudispear9975
Awesome job Scott love your work :)
Did anyone else notice that at 17:36 every hit from fire spin increased the power of rage fist each time up to 525bp. That's nuts, hitting with that kind of power gives all the endorphins
Appreciate the backports. It’s fun checking out evolutions I’ve never heard of before 😮 ghost/fighting is sickkk
Thing is a monster in PokeRogue, which is how I learned of it, ha ha. Been having trouble getting into the last couple generations of games.
Ghost/Fighting is sickkkkk!
There's a reason both Ghost/Fighting pokemon are banned to Ubers in competitive, great defensively and hits at least neutral against everything (except gen 1 psychic types, because gen 1 is buggy like that)
@@Electric999999 Hisuine Zoroark seems to be the only answer since it's immune to both stabs.
Okay that drive-by on Surge was amazing. I couldn't stop laughing from that!
That sprite is sick af
Love it
Probably my favorite fighting type Pokémon
That first Surge battle was intense, had me sweatin’, man!
Hey Scott,
I know you have a particular aversion to intros, but you should definitely consider the "new viewer" experience when formatting your videos. Normally, I think you do a tremendous job. I've enjoyed every single "basic" intro you've done ever since I started watching you back when you had 3 videos.
I think including the Brock fight before the introduction of the 'Mon hurts a new viewers experience. It makes the storytelling and narrative seem disjointed, and could lead some to click off before you properly explain things.
That being said, however you decide to format your videos, I will always watch them. You're a great TH-camr, and your commitment does not go unappreciated. Thanks for another video!
It’s funny, because this intro was designed for exactly that: the new viewer experience. Throw someone in, let them see Annihilape in action, then reverse out and explain the backports in more detail before releasing 7 of them in a row.
For some context, I knew this intro was bad before the video released so it isn’t a surprise seeing these comments. I feel the same way about it that everyone else does. Creatively it didn’t come together and accomplish what I wanted and it just felt wrong. So much went into the edit though and I made the decision to go with it even though it wasn’t ideal.
This reminded me that the Primeape vs Persian video has been my favorite of your uploads, mostly because Bruno made such a grand showing each time.
I love this idea to backport Pokemon and it just opens nearly endless options. Pokemon from Gen 9 to 1 or Gen 5 Pokemon back to Gen 2 for example. Also Annihilape became one of my favorite Gen 9 Pokemon instantly. Amazing desing and the sprite here is very cool, great work. Seeing newer Pokemon in those old games is just refreshing
Scott, that back sprite is absolutely terrible, its perfect!
it is gen-1 Venusaur-tier terrible. Great work.
The Surge disrespect is my favorite running gag.
Lmfao! I thought it was great too!
@@jinxtheunluckypony someone should make a rom hack where Surge and Bruno team up to get their revenge lol
Intern Surge deserves to be slandered
@@EthanEvans-nx7dn 👌😆 I laughed hard at this! I love how JRose has demoted him in his videos too
Hey Scott, I know everyone's given you their thoughts on how this video begins but honestly I think it's pretty close to being perfectly fine. I am quite picky about how my own videos begin and I think I have a decent feel for it.
Genuinely all this needed was your trainer art on screen and you saying "let's jump right into the action" or something to that effect, just to ensure the audience knows there's nothing wrong with the video. The issue as I'm sure you know is that the opening seconds were confusing and disorienting to some of your audience. You are generally very good at keeping your viewers well-informed and oriented, and this only happened because you were trying something new, nothing to beat yourself up over. You know you'll get better at it if you keep trying.
I say all this not because I think the video's bad, but because I think you shouldn't be discouraged from experimenting with your format. This video's true introduction is a 6-minute explanation of your backporting methodology - you shouldn't be blamed for trying to give it a more exciting start.
I mean this to be positive criticism as a Scott fan but the whole “Yep, that’s me. You’re probably wondering how I got here, so let’s go back” thing ain’t it
Honestly it could be in some situation butshitting on 1st gym with a gen 9 3rd stage fighting type isnt that kind of situation
Honestly, I'm kinda tired of those types of intros to movies and shows. It just feels like a lazy hipster way to started in the middle of something interesting only to then waste our time until we get here.
I also hate when youtubers start with a clip without context to be like "yeah, *something* will happen... eventually..."
Honestly, that is true. In TV shows and memes it is charming if dated and and an obvious hook; in TH-cam videos it takes on the context of an obvious bait which is much less tolerated because of the history of people using all the tricks to make the interesting hooks without any substance.
Oh this is sick.. cant wait to see how annihiliape does.............
Your sprites are on point! Love the back sprite, feels very gen 1 in a great way.
I really want to see what goodra can do with a combine special stat...
I'm looking forward to shedninja. It's going to be a riot! 😂
Depends on if he picks the higher stat or goes with this set up
@@banditrests At least it won't be Wobbaffet. 🤣
@@banditrestseven with 150 it would still have a lower BST than Dragonite. Not going with 150 would be just plain mean; you’d literally be taking away its best stat.
That 'you may be wondering how I got here" opening threw me for a loop. After seeing it was intentional i found it amusing.
superb vid Scott as always, I had a feeling this ghost ape would do well, there is so much normal in Gen 1 that a ghost does just have that working for it, a shame about the Gen 1 jank with Ghost not hitting psychic.
I had a thought that you may like to consider. you often tell us the various types Venomoth has during your runs and you even did the type randomizer run with it which was great fun, but I thought of a fun way you could that again a little more legit. in Gen 3 you have to face a Kecleon, its ability Colour Change (I think thats its name) changes its type depending on the type of move its hit by, I assume its possible to give Venomoth that ability in Gen 3 and 4 , I think it would be interesting to see, a Venomoth changing type multiple types throughout a battle
Annihlape is probably my favorite gen 9 Pokémon so I’m stoked that you did this backport
You should make an ad video for Guard Specs, it could be hilarious
I'll have to do a Guard Specs ad read sometime soon
The back sprite reminds me of crash bandicoot. I would say i was thrown off by the start. You dont grow without trying new things ! Keep it up!
Will we ever get VS videos of the same Pokemon who's type was revised or changed? Like pure electric Magneton vs electric/steel Magneton or normal Clefable vs fairy Clefable?
We may
I absolutely love the sprite work. You did a wonderful gen1 job on them.
Glad I hold off on commenting until 1.5 min in xD but also "where this video should have started" *Walks into wall of gym*
Trolled us with the beginning you have, master! Congrats!
Love your work and dedication and I appreciate keep up the great content🎉
I wonder how different magneton’s run would be to magnezone, since you would presumably change magnezone to be a steel, electric type. It would be really cool to see if the steel typing would make it better, or if it would get walled by Giovanni’s earthquakes.
Edit: You could even do separate runs to test how a steel/electric magneton would fare as well. Either way, I would love to see this!
If you implement Rage Fist with the mechanics of Gen 9, it would be extremely broken in Gen 1 against everything that's not Psychic (which gets Rock Slide to the face) or Normal (which gets Low Kicked). Rage Fist is already broken in the power-crept Gen 9, which is why Anhilape is banned in standard competitive play.
A more Gen 1 equivalent of Rage Fist would be...Rage. Rage gets stronger the more you get hit, similar to Rage Fist. Therefore, a Rage Fist in Gen 1 would be exactly like Rage, except Ghost-type, higher initial base power (50 instead of 20), and each additional hit at Anhileape would only raise the base power by one Attack modifier (=25 BP for each hit, capping at 200 BP max for the entire move). These Gen 1 modifications would be more in the spirit of Gen 1, while still retaining Anhileape's uniqueness. The ability to choose a move other than Rage Fist could be implemented in a Gen 2 backport instead.
Honestly, the BP increase nerf would probably make it more fair in Gen 9 too haha.
Honestly, I agree...and that arguably makes it feel more in the spirit of Gen 1 IMO. This limitation actually would make it more interesting and thus it would make Rage Fist more of a "situational last resort move" to solve a threat. Rage Fist backported with the effects of Gen 1 Rage would have severe downsides, but it's higher base power and arguably better typing prevents it from being as garbage as Gen 1 Rage for a playthrough. (And ONLY a playthrough because I highly doubt you'd wanna use Rage Fist in a Gen 1 competitive-esque format)
This problem would also be sidestepped by simply not backporting moves as well
@stanbrule9357 Yes, you're correct, it's only one Attack stage at a time. However, with the Gen 9 mechanic, the power goes up by 50 base points after each hit received, and the Gen 1 Rage equivalent would only amount to 25 BP because it's a singular Attack stage boost.
@megariderfire1994 I agree with all your points. It would make it more justifiable to give Anhileape the higher Special stat too, since the downgraded Rage Fist would give it more incentive to run a Mixed set prior to the Champion fight.
But crushing things with Rage Fist is Annihilapes whole identity.
Annhilape is one of the most deserved added evo in the series, with only mamoswine being more so. Primeape really needed the love and it is perfect.
Just wanted to pop in here that I just started watching……and was sooo confused until the 1:30 mark, holy crap that messed with me, hahah
I like the different Intro, but i can see why people might not be into it - I think you can keep it though while addressing the main concerns. It might just need a tweak in execution, as that was quite jarring. I think it's the music playing from the middle of the song and it sounding like Scott was in the middle of a sentence when the video started. I'm very supportive of the creative approach to the Intro, it can be a fantastic way to get the attention of new viewers and really create a story setting. If you can make the audio seem more like the video was meant to start when it does, it will have the best of all worlds and another creative win for Scott.
The “best of 3 runs” format that you mention in the outro could be pretty cool as a sort of “duel” video
I think when you back port Magnezone you should consider doing it as mono electric because of the rest of its evolutionary line. While I'm here though thanks for the great content, I learn so much about the mechanics of the games from you
Or do runs with and without the steel typing, and compare the differences the additional steel typing makes.
Ghost/Fighting is such a good combo (outside of Gen 1), so it was nice to see a Pokemon annihilape the competition with this typing
I liked the intro. It was informative and easy to follow for me 😊
While the intro also confused me at first once we got into the freezeframe "I bet youre wondering how i got in this mess" part I actually really liked it
I see the vision!! im not evem sure how it couldve been pulled off any better
Man Scott! Is my favorite poketuber this man is like TM 39 he don't miss!
I like your approach with how to handle the game mechanics. It's different from how others handle it (which are still valid) but i much prefer your approach
I like taking risks with video style, especially if you want to see how things will shake up. In all charity and respect, the cold open was not the best, especially since none of your prior videos start that way. Perhaps a fade in to the clip would have cued the viewers that this wasn’t a poor edit or accident upload.
Don’t worry, you’ve always got a fan here, but wanted to provide some constructive criticism.
Keep up the excellent content. Truly one of the best content creators on TH-cam.
What a cool video! Ghost type is the best type! Especially during this time of year
probably my favorite newer gen pokemon. then again s/v had alot of cool designs, like tinkaton and ceruledge. hard to chose
I'm only slightly sad the Halloween special isn't shedninja as a ghost/bug it is the ultimate spook (also probably horrifying to attempt)
@stanbrule9357Shedinja would be terrible, and Stalking monstrous
I'm not a huge fan of back ports, mainly because I never really played Pokemon as a kid past Gen 3. But with your rules I think they work - because we're still playing the game we all know and love.
Since game freak knows about this Oak fight, and they even made a joke about it in the let’s go games, why haven’t they officially coded this into a game?
This is a great showcase of how adding new Pokemon into older games should be done. Excited to see the other backports, this is going to be a fun one.
Had I known you were doing this, I also would've also sent a certain patch your way cause it totally fits the mold.
Scott what are your thoughts on going from elite 4 in gen 1 to 5 elite trainers in gen 2? And as you noticed they added an eighth leader prior to the elite 4 in gen 2... Gen 2 the better gen 1
Video starts straight up with the first Gym Battle . Nice :D
Ooh, I beat emerald seaglass with fighting types and Annihilape is just so good that it's the evolution Primeape definitely deserves 😊
Just got an Annihilape in Pokemon Brown, that thing is so good. I love watching that monkey stomp everything
Nice. And if you teach Earthquake as soon as you get it, you could bring the time even lower, if you don't need dig or just catch a digglet/dugtrio instead of relying on Annihilape keeping the move on its set.
Also, Rage Fist outpowers Earthquake after 2 hits too when compared to a super effective use of it. The moves are probably pretty interchangeable against the champion. I think Strength might be a better alternative to Rock Slide for the Exeggutor since it has perfect accuracy and slightly more power. May help it still hit the 3 shot KO even if it does use leech seed too, since Rockslide doesn't leave much extra room. Body Slam would be even better, but if you're really cutting time down, you might not want to stop to pick that up like you have to do with Strength. Would love to see you run these different ideas for the champion
Catching a diglet would take more time than just using dig instead of earthquake, even for a prolonged time.
I don’t think people realize how fast the extra dig turn goes, since you don’t have to reselect a move and the opponent missing creates for a very very quick turn.
@@ZealousPawn it is fast, though how much was he even using it in the overworld post silph? I don't actually know the run that well. Definitely could've switched to it post mansion (is that dig or escape rope?)
@@Chronoflation typically the last time you dig is out of Blaine or Sabrina’s gym. Buying escape ropes is more viable than catching diglet but I’m still unconvinced it’s worth it, especially if that money could be a vitamin
@@ZealousPawn that's fair, though, unless it's a carbos needed to exactly cross a speed threshold, like for Giovanni's Dugtrio or the Champion's Alakazam, I do question how much time that final vitamin is really saving
@@Chronoflation that’s run dependent. Sometimes a vitamin saves a level of training, and it’s really impactful. Other times it’s marginal
Zygarde Doggo form might be a fun one!
100 Attack and 115 Speed seems like a good fit for a solo run!
It's a super limited Movepool for Gen1, but it has reasonably decent stats for Gen1 standards!
-Glare
-Bite
Are its starting moves, but Dig is learned at Level 10!
EQ is learned at 55, but Lands Wrath is at 26, if you don't want the 2 turn Dig.
If you want, it can learn Core Enforcer too for a unique Dragon move (off an 85 base Special. I chose 85 instead of 61 because Zygarde is supposed to be tanky. But you can 61 for added difficulty)
In Gen8 it does get access to Body Slam too.
Rock Slide and Rest can be learned, as well as Substitute.
Swift for Abra boosting of course.
This being said, it's movepool is so shallow you will really need to consider janking it up.
For some filler moves:
*Low Kick can be taught as it has a variety of Fighting moves, like Brick Break, but not any in Gen1.
*Dragon Rage can be taught, since it usually has a ton of Dragon moves such as Dragon Pulse and Draco Meteor.
*Coil and Dragon Dance can't be learnt, but since it's a doggo maybe Agility can be a sub for those.
*And at an extreme push, it can learn Shock Wave so maybe Thunderbolt can be taught after Surge.
Also, fun fact, while running on the Showdown battle sim, Annihilape Rage Fist does NOT boost in damage and is strictly a 50BP Ghost move in Gen1.
Okay! Love to see it! This is one of the coolest new pokes
Amazing Intro, i thought you had a huge editing error. But damn good joke
I think a slight improvement that could be used would be to get rid of Low kick as soon as you get earthquake. Against Lorelei low kick and rockslide are both effective power 150 and 90% accuracy. This gives you a one turn ground move for more of the run
I'll be honest, I'm not sure what the idea behind the intro was. Looking at the comments gives me the impression that people already gave feedback, but just in case: I think this style of in media res would have made much more sense if there was something truly eyecatching or surprising happening, something that would catch the eye, but needed an explanation in the past. I don't think that scenario was set up here at all, nor are there pieces to BE set up. The Focus Energy bit might have been something like that, if not critting was absolutely vital to success, but I don't think it is?
I'm watching this half-asleep over my morning coffee and rather than seeing the in media res, my first instinct was to go back on the video time bar because I thought I had missed (slept through) the intro.
Since I'm posting this at the intro, I'll give a rare prediction. Annihilape will fly through most of the game because of stats, but highlight a few Gen1 problems with Ghost and Fighting types that rarely come up. The only thing I see holding this beast back are the abysmal options for STAB moves in this game, since I don't assume you backported Rage Fist. Being a ghost that can't hit ghosts is kinda unique, now that I think about it. Though it does get Dig, so maybe I'm overthinking this. EDIT: okay, I guess that problem doesn't exist. Interesting.
Seeing this just makes me want to see you run rhe Kanto Expansion Pack even more. Annihilape was on my Hall of Fame team.
1:40 Huh. I can’t find one that quite fits, but are we getting a GlitchMon run? Presumably not MissingNo, but there’s a lot of Gen 1 glitch mons that might be workable.
Shedinja
Backsprite looks like a weird vegetable, seems perfectly in line with gen 1 sprites to me!
3:50 There's a question, then. Do you have plans to do runs of Yellow with backported types? Like, steel/electric Magneton or psychic/fairy Mr. Mime? To see where they stack up should their typing be altered.
So the opening was... very abrupt to me, and felt like the video was uploaded wrong or something, missing the opening part of the video. Seems it was intentional, but it didn't work very well for me. Even just something like "So... given how bananas Annihilape is in Gen 9, I was expecting it to absolutely steamroll gen 1, especially with it having access to rage fist to be able to get neutral damage against almost anything that isn't a normal type, but..." would have been a better intro, or at least wouldn't feel like the video was uploaded wrong or missing parts.
run was still neat though, and good to see Annihilape was indeed bananas
Really cool intro concept
By far my favorite gen 9 Mon. It's the perfect evolution for Primeape
Question: Would you ever consider backporting mega evolutions as separate species to older games? There are some like mega khangaskahn that would be super interesting to see backported.
Did you ever consider Fissure? I think it could've helped on the Champion's Exeggutor since it takes a while to KO but can't do much to you. Maybe Lorelei's Slowbro too.
I find it curious you decided to add Earthquake.
Sure Gen 9 Annihilape learns Earthquake, but so does Gen 9 Primeape.
But Gen 1 Primeape doesn't learn Earthquake, so it's a bit odd to me that you decided Annihilape should.
I'd have probably done it differently, but it's your video and I'm still a big fan.
The video currently starts at Brock, the introduction/beginning is missing. [EDIT] oh, this was intended.
Compliment incoming:
I think your story telling has really improved a lot the last year or so.
That’s all 🙂
I always loved the mankey line but felt it was unfinshed. annihiape looks like he was made for me and has been my goat in raids.
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS ONE SO MUCH MY FAVORITE GEN9 GHOST !!!!
There's an interesting edge case with the backport rules - Magnezone is a Pokemon that's always been Electric/Steel, but is an evolution to Magneton which is being left as pure Electric. Which way do you think you'd go with that?
I can't even imagine making Blue's magneton Electric/Steel. That's like, the biggest *POSSIBLE* nerf because stolen EQ always gets the KO. In spite of the fact that I know he frustrates you, mono electric magneton is king of resets at the champion and it makes for extremely interesting viewing because it really is a massive wall in the game for some.
Thought this was just a recap of last night’s runs. Nope. Emerald to come soon 👀
as someone familiar with RBY competitve pokemon, you are completely correct, I've never seen a serious match where someone used submission
Thank you @scott for one more pkm run😊. Ah, i'm still trying to beat Roxanne with Shedinja. Level 35 isn't enough for me, i'll try 38
Submission is the worst fighting type move.
The way Rage Fist works reminded me that there was someone who won a tournament by using Maushold to hit his other pokemon ten times in a single turn to trigger some stat boost, and thanks to that it was basically invulnerable for the rest of the match. Makes me wonder if anyone pulled those shenanigans with Annihilape to max out its power?
Im not sure why people find the need to be so critical about the backports. Its fun to try and figure out how to appropriately apply a pokemon to a previous generation in the spirit that Game Freak would have done so. Even if you dont like it, you dont have to say something about it, just dont watch the video, and let the rest of us enjoy it.
Oh hey. I just asked about this on the Cofagrigus stream. Nice!
This Halloween video had 666 likes when I showed up, but I liked it anyway, out of respect for Scott 🤝
4:01 - hmmm, Magneton vs Magnezone sounds like an interesting video idea, how much does the Steel type REALLY help in Gen1
Hm. Would it have been worth it to teach Body Slam for the champion if it wasn't needed earlier? More power than Rock Slide, and Paralysis means the Exeggutor spends less time being annoying. Downside of 1 extra battle/menu time.
If you were backporting pokemon which their whole line debuted not in Gen1 I will agree with how you deal with Annihilape's moveset.
But this is a canon Primeape evolution. I think the best logic is "If Annihilape were in Gen1 what would its moveset look like" which should be a same/similar level up moveset as Primeape but delayed levels after the supposed evolution level. In this spirit, rather than looking at its Gen9 moveset first, I will literally copy Primeape's Gen1 Yellow moveset, slap Rage Fist at Lv35, then (optional) assign all moves after lv35 at a later level. Then I will can look at Annihilape's Gen9 moveset, see if there's some moves that makes sense for Gen1 Annihilape to have when Primeape doesn't. If there are then we add them in a level that fits well.
...and then I looked at the final moveset assigned for Annihilape I think that is exactly what happened. I guess great job for the backport!.
It really surprises me Annihilape does so little better than Primeape, considering how useful Ghost (without Poison) is in gen 1. Lower Special seems like it shouldn't matter with so much more HP, and 90 Speed is still enough to outspeed everything. Other than that the stats are much better and you even gave it Earthquake on top of that.
Man annihilape was awesome. Can't wait for the backported basculegion, after all both it and annihilape were banned from gen 9 OU so it must be just as good. Right?
No, this is Gen 1, per Pokemon Stadium if you have a post-Gen 1 Magneton in Gen 1 with both of its types, it should be Electric/Fire :V
The note on Magneton makes me curious as to whether its flying saucer evolution Magnezone will have any additional struggles from being an Electric/Steel type. Though perhaps being a UFO it will be on-theme enough to be covered later this month?
Sandslash Earthquake going to destroy it.
One question about the Interaction of critical hits and move power: When Flareon hit you with Fire Spin your Rage Fist power bekam 525, but then you landed a critical hit. So does the crit now ignore the Fire Spin boosts or does it hit with 525*~2?
And something else I was interested in: Do you know if there is any relation between paralysed stat and priority moves? Because it always felt like you will be fully paralysed everytime you use Quick attack.
For the first part of that question, in gen1 crits bypass all modifiers, even helpful ones including the badge boost. So a fully charged rage fist does far more damage if it does not crit.
I never knew how much I wanted this until I had it
Front sprite is beautiful.
Back sprite is hideous.
I have fulfilled the requirements of the gen1 Gods.
I think both are great!@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
Consider for bringing moves back or replacing them do type then power then accuracy as close as possible in priority order.
Chanelure is one of my favorites from gen 5. Im looking forward to that. Do you make patches for backports available?
Also, I made it to 35:47. And no Scott, YOU'RE INCREDIBLE!
Such a great mon. Would have been great with a signature move!
Imagine old mate Anthony giving this back to Ash.
Do you think you'll do a version of Yellow with a Steel type Magneton? Just to see how different it would preform?
I’ll probably do it as a solo run, but I’m not likely to add it as a type for the enemy.
Starting midway is...strange. Meant to or not.
The only criticism i have is that the back sprite is UGLY, but missing JUST A LITTLE of the gen 1 jank.
Pull it down 4 pixels to barely show the arms, and turn it just a little to see part of the eye/nose. Gen 1 REALLY liked to try to show the face from behind as well
Is there any way that we can get your gorgeously janky backported sprites as a mouse mat?
Also, I'm kind of upset that your mons don't follow you in the overworld, for nostalgia sake.
Waiting for the video where Surge isn't even mentioned by name and Scott just says "I fought some xp fodder" between Misty and Erika/Koga
