- Dr David Bull and Defund The BBC's Rebecca Ryan discuss the BBC's top earners as published in the corporation’s annual report.
Huw Edwards was paid more than £475,000 by the BBC last year before he resigned and left the corporation following the explicit photos furore.
The veteran newsreader was paid between £475,000 and £479,999 for the year 2023/24 for 160 presenting days, BBC One news specials, election specials and other television programming, according to the BBC’s annual report.
Rebecca says: “People don't want to pay for the BBC"

People need to wake up a realize capita have no power over anyone or anything NO-ONE will ever kick your door down and search your home for a TV. There is no such thing as detector vans. They even give you the option to opt out on the licencing website. Its all scaremongering nonsense. My TV works just fine without a "licence".
The BBc says it needs more money and cannot afford to make new programmes. Yet, it can afford to increase the salaries of their grossly overpaid presenters by 20-25 THOUSAND POUNDS. Absolutely disgusting. Just glad that I have not paid the TV Tax for over 7years now. Nor do I have any intention to ever pay it again.

If 500,000 stopped in the last year, that puts non-paying households somewhere in excess of 16%. The BBC is living on borrowed time.

My elderly parents still pay beacuse of the perceived threat of someone coming to the door and trying to gain access. My mum isn't that switched on and would most likely let them in and get stitched up.

It is nonsense. Why should people pay for a license to watch any ‘live’ programme when for example ITV and Freeview are financed by advertising. I am over 80 years of age and live alone. I have never watched a great deal of television during my lifetime but why on earth was the BBC allowed to overturn a decision made by our very own Parliament about 2 decades ago to offer free licences to the over 75’s. Clearly, we don’t need a Government!
Salaries aren't the issue, its the lack of content, and the demand for money under threat of prosecution. The licence fee isn't going away, its up to the people to stop paying it. Why pay to be indoctrinated?

Most of the worlds problems could be resolved by ditching TV.
Cancelled my tv licence 4 years ago and never looked back why fund a corporation that is so biased they pay the presenters far too much and basically they show repeats and the rest is rubbish so why keep paying ,everyone should stop paying they don’t deserve it

This is just the BBC employee salaries that are made public, there are plenty of BBC Studios employees where the salaries aren't made public, because BBC Studios is a commercial arm of the BBC. Apparently Claudia Winkleman is paid even more than Gary Linkeker.
Obviously millions of people do want to pay for the BBC and do so every year. Its real TV with expert and well informed presenters and a wide range of programming not the joke that is TTV

What rubbish ! My wife for varicose reasons is in her bedroom all day and Tv is her main entertainment! I watched Tv in a different room ! So for less than £2 each per week we get 24 / 7 viewing and record anything we want ! Who gives a feck what they get paid as long as I have plenty to watch ! NO ONE FORCES ME OR MY WIFE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING OR TO WATCH ANYTHING TELL ME WHOULD TAKE OVER THE TRANSMITTERS AND HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST MORE THAN £3 a week for SURE HOW MUCH IS NET FLICKS VIRGIN BT OR SKY , my son is in his 30 s he has never had a Tv licence and doesn’t watch Tv he has never been forced to pay a subscription to the bbc !

Simply cancel your Direct Debits, don't waste your time contacting the BBC to 'declare no licence needed' as you are not legally obliged to inform/talk to anyone at the BBC/TVL or fill in any forms (it just helps BBC admin which they use to delay you). If you do fill out their forms or talk to them they have one purpose - to be so vague and misleading that they make you doubt your legal right to cancel.
Then sit back and read with amusement the ever desperate monthly letters as they behave like a clingy ex! - they'll send fake threats of 'Visit Authorised', 'under investigation' and 'last chance to get licensed' in nice red ink to 'scare' you into buying a licence you don't require - just ignore/bin these comical, misleading begging letters from an organisation that still thinks its the 1950's and it has some sort of legal authority. Utter shame on the UK Government for allowing the BBC an exemption to send harassing mail to those obeying the law (ask your MP why they allow it!).
Join the half million people a year now reaching their lightbulb moment, realising they are wasting their money and cancelling! Do not be intimidated!!
In the very unlikely event a commission based licence salesman visits (who like to call themselves 'officers'!) DO NOT talk to them - even to give your name, just say 'not interested' and close the door - job done! They have no legal rights/powers whatsoever despite what they may tell you/imply with their flashy lanyard! Just watch catch-up services (who watches live now anyway?) and no iPlayer (again, no loss as it's just preachy dross) and bingo, you saved yourself £169, every year - it is SO SO easy! Remember if you listen to Radio (by anyone, even the BBC!) then no licence needed.
