  • This is one of two NSU Quicklies that I bought in June 2020. They had not been used for many years and were found at the back of an old workshop. I have enjoyed bringing this one back to life.

NSU made several fine race bikes in the 1950s and 1960s.
    Some achieved world championship status.
Kreidler was another Maker that featured in small bore champion road race bikes.
    Nice effort there mate.

In the 60s, we would get old NSU quickly, take the motor & tank off, then you could actually peddle like a bike. But it was hard work to a 9 year old !!!

Are you sure ? If you take the motor off a Quickly you loose the pedals and the front sprocket. My mate did what you did back in the day but it was a Mobylette I think. They had 2 chains :-)

@@MadMickey58 definitely remember something like that. Most of the time we just went down hills freewheeling.

German moped in England beautiful but I like it very much, I'm from Poland and the successor to nsu 50 was a Komar "mosquito" but produced in Poland, a bit worse quality

Nice to see that Englishmen ride the Quickly too, The numberplate is rather big,is it a motorcycle over there ? By the way,it was in the 1970ties when I rode my Quickly from the Lake of Constance ( deep in the south of Germany, next to Swiss ) to England. I started at about 4 .00 in the morning and arrove at about 21.00hrs at Dover. Well, I was just 17 years old ! But the Quickly much older did it too without any troubles.

This is an "Age Related" reg number. I didn't think they were transferable.

Well this one was ! The bike now has a different number. The vsu number on this video was issued back in about 1990 if I remember correctly. I guess that the original number was transferred and this one was issued?? Not to sure if I am honest.

Hello Mick, we have an identical 1957 Quickly, one thing I’ve noticed is that when the clutch is pulled in there is a light scraping sound, it disappears as soon as the clutch is released, just wondering if this is normal?, have you noticed anything like that on yours?, thanks Mark

    • @MadMickey58

Hello Mark, The light scraping sound that you mention doesn't sound right. This bike does not do that. You might want to take off the clutch side cover and have a look to see if everything is ok. Maybe a problem with the drive plates?? Its quite easy to do. Cheers Mike

@@MadMickey58 Hi Mike thanks for the response, we’ve actually sent it back to NSU Quickly spares, they rebuilt the engine, I sent them a video of the noise and they agree it’s not right and said they will sort it out, hopefully that’s what will happen, thanks again, cheers Mark.
