NSU Quickly N Road Test after rebuild.

- I have enjoyed stripping down this old broken Quickly and then bringing her back to life again. Thanks goes to its owner "John" for trusting me with her and to Andy and Sue at NSU Quickly Spares UK for supplying the parts that were needed.
Very nice restoration. This was the first bike I ever owned. I was 15 years old, that was back in 1970. It cost me £12.
Thanks Terry, your story reminds me of my first moped, it was a Raleigh RM6 and cost me £5 in about 73 !
Beautiful job on that machine. My first motorised vehicle was one of these back in 1962, when I was 16. The reg was 137JPB. A two speed job. We lived in South London, and I rode it all over the place, including to places like Eastbourne and Brighton. Only broke down once, when I`d put new point o it and didn`t tighten the flywheel enough. It came lose and sheered off the Woodruff key and I had to walk it home, about 10 miles. One thing I noticed is that you have a better stand on that one. Mine had a flimsy wire thing that made the bike fall over every time I walked away from it.
Hello Buster, thank you for your comment. By the sound of it you certainly got about on your Quickly all over the place. You mention about the wire stand. Yes, they were not very good and have the nick name of the "Mickey mouse stand" The one fitted to this bike is a modern design that you can buy as an update. They are very good. They have a return spring and I think they are a bit longer so that the bike sits up more when on the stand making it more stable. Hope this little video bought back some good memories to you. I had one in the early 70, used it to ride to work for 3 years when I was a poor apprentice.
Never let me down and was dead easy to repair. Well, when I say repair I really meant tinkering to make it go faster. Fond memories.
Sounds a bit louder than I remember them to be in the 'sixties, a bit rortier too! Great restoration, brings back memories of our neighbour Mr Phythian who had one and kept it immaculate. He used to say he turned off the petrol at the bottom of the street and the contents of the floatbowl got him to the top, leaving it empty for him to start with fresh petrol in the morning to go to work!

My friend recently had one given to him. Engine was rebuilt very professionaly but the rest is in boxes unrestored. I have restored a few Honda c50s so he asked me to help him with it. I'm not even sure all the parts are there as I don't know much about these bikes. I know it's an old one as the exhaust is located on the left hand side. It will be an interesting one for me. Always nice to look at something fresh and find out all about it. You did a nice job on this one.

Bloody brilliant job, that was my first bike back in 1970, l paid £15 for it and loved it, it was quite fast, about 40+mph with 3 speeds if i remember correctly......
Thank you for your comments Marlec. There are lots still out there if you want to relive the dream !!! Not sure about the 40+MPH though? Maybe your speedo was in Kms 😀

Nice,nice,but in England they use another kind of muffler it seems. Over here( Germany ) the Quickly is much more "peaceful".

Hello Mr Rototiller ! Thanks for you comments. Over here in the UK I get my parts from NSU Quickly Spares. You can find them online and download their parts catalogue . I don't know if they would ship parts over to the US but its worth asking them. There are other suppliers in Germany, just do a google search. I hope you enjoy working on your Quickly. I wonder how many were sold in the US ? Cheers Mickey 🙂

I came from Germany and had Quickly`s too. Question. The Colour that you used is this original in Your Country.? I had all German Colours and search other colours for my next Project. Greetings from Germany and sorry for my bad english. Scool is far far away (-:
Hello Klaus, sorry that I have not answered your question for so long. I don't often check the comments on my videos! I expect that you have finished your project now but for your info the colours that I used were RAL7044 for the frame and mudguards and RAL7039 for the fuel tank. The frame and mudguards etc were powder coated and the tank was wet painted using rattle cans. After the decals were added sprayed 3 coats of fuel resistant clear lacquer onto the tank.
This Colour was only available til 1955!
