Thank you so much for this video! I tried to do college for a year after highschool and I ended up just dropping out. I've been working a few jobs here and there and just have not found anything that is remotely interesting to me. When I came across the rad tech field it really resonated with me and now I'm planning on going back to college next Fall after my wife is finished with her masters!
hey Brandon, I am so thankful for this video. I have been recently diagnosed with adhd and now everything i went through in my past makes sense. I always struggled with studying and because of my adhd, i find myself feeling a bit intimidated by the thought of a whole 2 years worth of rigorous studying I would have to do. I have been looking into this position for the last two weeks and I am between radiation therapist or radiologic tech, im leaning towards tech. I resonate with not just your add but also bouncing from job to job and having phases where you think you are convinced you want to do but it ultimately turned out it wasn't for you. I have wasted plenty of time and money trying to find the right career and here is me fingers crossed hoping this is my chance. You have earned yourself a subscriber! Looking forward to more posts!
Appreciate this, and thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds like we are very similar! I know these 2 year programs sound intimidating, but if you can apply yourself you can definitely do it. These programs are small and have great support systems, meaning you can get more 1 on 1 attention than most college programs. And they want you to succeed. If you're between rad tech and radiation therapist, I would highly suggest going the rad tech 2 year route first. This will already give you many career options, and then you can always go back for a 1 year certificate program to get your rad therapy credentials. If you go straight into therapy, then you can only work in that modality (which is okay, but being an x-ray tech first opens so many more doors). Hope this helps and please feel free to ask questions along the way, I'm here to help in any way I can!
So glad I saw this video. Very similar college situation for me too. In my 20’s I could never nail down a long term plan. Lots of college units, 124, but no degree. Went into business, but unfortunately my business has never fully recovered since Covid, so I’m going back to school to take the pre requisites for the 2 year radiologic technology program. I’m 40 btw. My daughter is 2. Her and I are moving in with my parents to help me out while I get through school. Never thought in a million years I’d be living back with my parents at 40. But it’s only for a few years and I got to focus on the bigger picture. This video really helped. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for sharing and we do sound very similar! And you have the right mindset for sure focusing on the big picture, it's only for 2 years and that time flies by. Most of my class was in their 30s and 40s - radiology is a very common second career choice because of its attainability as well as its positive job outlook. Let me know if you have any questions along the way, I'd be happy to help however I can!
@ wow in their 30’s and 40’s? Ok that makes me and my ADD feel better. You don’t even know. Thank you I really appreciate the videos and feedback!!! I’m in California and apparently Rad techs are in high demand here.
@@s.lindburg8214 Yep, depending on how big the class is students could range from fresh out of high school to 50s and in between, so you are not too late at all! And yes, California is in HIGH demand for techs. I've worked all over California doing travel contracts and loved it. I'm certain you would have a job lined up before you even graduated.
@ thank you 🙏 Kaiser does tend to hire up to 100% of the graduating class. Very cool you’ve done travel contracts here in Northern California. This all makes me feel good. I appreciate you.
It's reassuring to see I'm not the only one. I'm 44 and I will be applying to radtech programs in the spring. To top it all off, I've got a newborn due in June. There will be challenges having a little one at home, but having a support system is key, which sounds like you have. You've got this! You should probably look at several programs in your area. A lot of programs are on a lottery system for acceptance. And the ones that are based off grades and TEAS test scores are very competitive so keep your grades up. Good luck to you!
Thank you for the video! The timing of this is amazing, I was going into nursing I only had 2 courses left to get into my program but I kept feeling like my choice wasn’t a 100%, a few days ago for the first time I started doing research on this profession and like you said the pros outweigh the cons by so much. I am in Canada so there’s only a handful of programs here but I am so much more excited for this. This video popping up is Divine timing, I am happy I didn’t rush my schooling. Anyways I digress, thanks again 😇 Good luck with everything. Best wishes
Absolutely! Thank you for sharing this, and I'm really glad this video reached you at the right moment. I completely understand the feeling of wanting to be 100% certain, and it's great that you're following what feels right for you. Wishing you all the best in this new direction, and please feel free to reach out directly if you ever have any questions or would just like more insight on the profession. I'd be happy to help out in any way I can. Thanks again for your kind words!
I appreciate this video man. I am taking my pre-Rec now to enroll in a rad tech program. I decided to leave my electrical construction and maintenance program even though I was half way done I simply grew to dislike the work I was doing and couldn't imagine myself doing it for 20+ years. I’m trusting my journey and I know I will be a x-ray tech in the years to come.
I hear ya! Trusting your journey is key, and it sounds like you're making the right choice moving toward something that aligns more with your passion. We have our whole lives to work, so it's worth finding something that we won't be miserable doing. There's so many options for career advancement as well in radiology which is a great benefit of this profession. Best of luck with your pre-reqs and let me know if you have any questions along the way
I love your intro about how it is difficult to choose a major at such a young age. I can relate, i'm planning to change my major to radiologic tech. Very useful video, thank you.
Thanks Eddie! It definitely is difficult deciding between career paths at a young age. Glad to hear you are looking into radiology now and let me know if I can answer any questions you may have along the way.

Great video. I’m in a similar situation looking for a change. Thank you for sharing your experience
Thanks for the kind words! Seems like a lot of us either have been or are currently in the same boat. Just continue to trust the process.
This is for real ! I start in the spring
Glad to hear it! Good luck and let me know if you have any questions along the way!
