  • We attempt to start the polaris supersport snowmobile after 5 years of sitting. We go through the carbs and look at the oil pump and clutches. Wire up a tether switch and start pulling the rope to see if it will start up and run! Lots of good info about carburetors and oil pump adjusting.

Watched all 3 parts, nicely done!
Sure am wondering what the compression would be before and after rebuild?

Usually compression is about 120 or so after new rebuild depending on the engine. Right away after rebuild it needs to seat the rings so compression will not be that crazy high usually.

Technically it’s not a choke. It’s an enricher.. a choke has a valve that partially covers the throat of the carb

Hey fellas good catch on that backwards emulsian tube i once was having diffuclty removing one and bulged out the u-shape end.i mushed it back as close to original but thought i f#up,good for me ran just fine.iam proud owner of cheap yard sale,$350..1990 indy 400 polaris sled, seems a real ripper.a few questions of help needed!! First is that filter looking thing on oil line a one way valve or filter, two what coorelation does changing wieghts(heavy or light) and secondary spring tension(heavy or soft)have on changing performance.third my engine block has provison for a starter but primary clutch has no ring gear.i would love to have electr.start and install reverse to it,what yr.and cc.size should i be looking for as a parts donor.thanks for any reply.you fellas seem to know sleds.ok,well enjoy snow seems to be disappearing fast.snookie pa.😂😊😊😊😊😊

that is a filter in line with the oil pump. check valves are usually in those spigots on the intakes. for the primary you want a p85 with a ring gear off of the 90s indy of somekind. narrow roller is the older style like you want. many 500cc had e start and will work. With weights and springs, heavier primary weights bring rpm down on top end, lighter make it rev higher. It will also change with more tension on the secondary spring. If you wind it up tighter, rpm will be a little more at WOT little less tension rpm will go down a slight bit. I always liked the stock polaris setups, but you can mess with a higher tension primary spring to get engagement up if you want to get more snap on take off as well as thorough cleaning of the clutches.
