We often only recognize these things decades after seeing the affects of change. Change comes in incredibly small increments. In addition, people have free will to do as they wish. Those do not always follow the will of our Lord. And our Lord works patiently in people to nudge towards His way. We just need to follow the straight and narrow path. We need to not worry over those we have no control or authority. We need to pray for those in charge, we need to pray for our families, and above all else we need to love God and be holy. Pride always leads to a fall.

Ralph, you bring what to me is the godly view of Vatican II. I've been slowly reading through "The Pope Benedict XVI Reader" put out by Word on Fire Institute. What you said reflects the pope's evaluation. Thank you Pete. God bless you both. 🙏

I can say that as a protestant if the mass and liturgy was in latin, I would never have got into the boat to cross the Tiber.

I listened three times on this because I have read parts of the the Vatican II documents and always felt it was so beautiful and was of God.

I was up until very recently wholly opposed to Vatican II to the point of sedevacantism. Hearing talks like this with a measured and non-reactionary look at the Council, plus that of St. JPII and Benedict XVI, has really helped me come back to Catholic tradition from radical traditionalism.

Excellent!!! topic, questions and discussion! I think Cardinals and bishops are still garbed in “royal”attire as opposed to “servant”.
Appears to me we are on the cusp of CCC 675 “The Church’s ultimate trial” with truth being traded for “unity” …and the groundwork for Bishop Sheen’s “Ape of the Church” is being laid with “worldly” people being put in leadership positions.🙏🙏🙏

I experienced Masses in the late 60’s where a community meal was stated as the equivalent to the Eucharist!! Homilies were small group discussions🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I may grudgingly grant that V II was okay, but what you don’t address is how Bugnini hijacked VII, and interpreted and disseminated his own heretical version.

It is so perplexing why so many younger Catholics on social media want to trash the writings of Vatican II without understanding them. One of their complaints is that catechesis waned or stopped. In both CCD and at the Catholic High School I attended, it never did. All the doctrines of the Church were studied, along with the writings of Vatican II. EVERYONE knew Church doctrine, but secularism crept in and many fell away. It was a time to "do your own thing." I was baptized in the Spirit in 1975, and it is a defining moment in my spiritual life. From my pastor's suggestion, I started a Charismatic Prayer group at college, 350 miles from my home in 1976. In 1977 we were told by the pastor at college to stop having the prayer group at church because it was "fundamentalism nonsense from protestants." I still lead a Charismatic Prayer group today, and I'm again hearing the same kind of response from marginal Catholics. The move is to replace the things that Vatican II brought in - communion in the hand, reinstall communion rails, change the mass to Latin, eliminate all songs written since 1950 in church, get rid of the Charismatic Renewal, remove the sign of peace, and curtail informal evangelization into only church supervised groups. These ideas are not only subversive to the church, but place barriers between the Body of Christ (parishioners) and God. I have been receiving emails and texts since last year stating that our Charismatic Prayer group is not really a Catholic movement, and we should disband it. This is truly Catholic Cancel Culture. Just because they have a platform, they are using it in a hateful and negative way. Vatican II was inspired by the Holy Spirit. These people are guided by their own minds and collective wills. Scripture says you will be known by the fruits you bear. I only see division, pride, arrogance, and hate coming from many of these voices. Perhaps if they repented, followed the commands of Jesus, and were baptized in the Holy Spirit they would not think this way, and there would be unity in the Church.

I really think that we need a younger pope in his 50s with enough vitality to deal with BOTH the reactionary heresies and the liberal heresies popping up in the Church.

Heresy, is a sin and should have a negative attitude toward it. 8:00 mark. Because it wounds the Body of Christ and is agaisnt unity.

Vatican II came about also at a time when, the role of women went through historical transformation. Tensions of racial inequality were being given a voice. Learning how to think and express this in a relationship of friendship is challenging when it has not been learned. Jesus gave us example of relationship. Our Pope has the responsibillity of the Global Church. The synod needs to be welcomed to take stalk of the things that are good and working well. As Laypeople have challenged authority, some priests have great difficulty in accompanying their parishioners and leave so much up to the lay person to take care of. Satan is the master of Fear and Division. Learn how to accomany and Dialogue is it's uncomfortabel to understand. This is the Hallmark of what Jesus Gospel is. Patience, no restrictions on time. allowing the Holy Spirit to work in another person through the witness of a loving friend one person at a time is critical. This is the Spirit of Love and Mercy. Reconciliation will come when the heart feels free to approach God in repentance.
