My "dark night" was Oct 14, 2021 when I had to have the doctor disconnect my beloved husband of 32 years from life support. He was brain dead and after Clyde was disconnected I sat on the side of his bed in the hospital holding his hand, talking to him and praying for us both as it took over 5 minutes for his heart to stop beating. Then I kissed him goodbye, told him that I'd always love him and be faithful to him and then told the nurse to call his death. It was 7:02 pm.
"Prot" here, acknowledging that while much of what I hear from Catholics sounds a little crazy. BUT - it's because of the MANY crazy things I see and hear from my fellow Prots that I continue to watch and listen to these videos. Thank you for doing this work.
Consider the following: If you were to know that the Catholic Church is the Church established by Christ and the Church he left his Holy Spirit with, then you'd not care for your own personal opinions, because you would know that the Catholic Church's teaching is the Word of God and not man and so you could not possibly have any disagreements with it... At least, you would not have long-lived disagreements because who knows better than God? Certainly not man.

Nonetheless, it is what I said, and I apologize for it. It was wrong of me to express it that way. I do ask anyone who was hurt by my comment will forgive me - most of all my Lord Jesus.

I did not find it insulting and I am aware of how non-Catholics often find Catholic beliefs, or rather, their (frequent) misunderstandings of actual Catholic beliefs to be crazy and often heretical or blasphemous. I'm not saying that you're misunderstanding Catholic belief, since you might understand it but may find it a little crazy for another reason besides it being a misunderstanding... Either way, it's a good sign that you're earnestly searching for the truth and with an open mind, giving Catholicism a fair shot.
I’m grinning now reading this because my father , a former “prot” became my greatest catholic godly example in my life. Converts make the greatest Catholics. ( thanks dear dad…RIP🙏💕).
I recently bought “The fulfilment of all desire.” It’s amazing. I bought it after listening to Matt’s video about this book and also after watching “Renewal Miniseries” channel run by Ralph Martin.
Dr. Martin offers an excellent example for Christians of any tradition or denomination. He doesn't spend time focused on what he might view as wrong teaching or practice in other traditions, instead he speaks positively about what the Catholic Church and faith have to offer. It is an example that many Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic speakers would do well to adopt. We are in a spiritual battle, and there are faithful in all traditions fighting on the right side in this battle. To unnecessarily alienate one another does nothing more than serve Satan's purposes.
I am still a protestant but soon over the Tiber. To hear you guys say that some people focus to much on Mother Mary is so liberating. She has been a stumbling block for me until not so long ago. But I've been feeling that there so much stage wording for Her. Thx guys for making me feel less strange. ❤️
I think that most of the standoffishness from Protestants with momma Mary has to do with a lack of understanding in what Catholics really believe about her. Once you really dive in and pray about relationship with her there’s very little that you’ll continue to disagree with. No we do not need momma Mary but she helps a lot in getting to know and love Jesus better. She’s a gift from God.
I would highly suggest picking up the book by St Alphonsus called The Glories of Mary. There are free PDFs of the whole book online but I recommend "The Glories of Mary from Catholic Book Publishing," it's a little blue book, only about 100 pages. I love it, because it has a lovely forward that really frames the book well. And, Scott Hahn has suggested the book The Assumption of Mary by Killian J. Healy, O. Carm. Which might help a lot with getting over that hump with accepting the dogmas of Mary or when you start saying the rosary. 🤗
This man is an absolute God send. An angle walking our Earth, thank you for your work Ralph Martin, walking man straight toward the meaning of life. Live Jesus our love and Mary our hope!
Those were good points on the dark nights of the soul. My dark nights came unexpectedly from attending daily mass, always hoping and expecting to experience zeal and courage from the priests and to hear moral truth to shepherd us faithful, but now I limit myself to weekly, because otherwise the banal and cowardly homilies leave me so frustrated and it's better to minimize such reactions. I can't change them and must leave that to God, but I can limit the damage that their negligence can to my soul and I want to avoid becoming entirely driven away.

Unfortunately I can't shut my ears and must endure banality and cowardice when, in fact, as a reflection on the Word, homilies should retain some of the divine charge to electrify the soul. Who would change car oil without at once changing the filter? Perhaps that analogy is imperfect, but hopefully you understand my point.
I think Ralph is great. I do feel he's to laxed on the evils of the hierarchy of the church. He ended on a high note we should fear God more than man. I use Hallow and have done Exodus 90 and am doing the lenten version now. I recommend both. God Bless Matt love your show.

I LOVE this man. He's so honest and true when talking about the crisis we are living in the Church, but also humble and prudent, without falling into the (easy) trap to 'exaggerate' as other people do. Thank you really for this interview! I can't wait to buy the book, unfortunately it is not available at the moment here in Italy.
I grew up in a family with only 4 kids, but my friends all had families of 10, 11, and 13 children. I was always so envious of those big families. There was so much love. I always thought my family was small, so I'm so surprised that people think 3 or 4 children is a lot! I always wanted a dozen children but am blessed to have had at least one. So informative. A great tool to help us understand how to get through the confusion throughout the church today. Just excellent.
Humility - Christ humbled himself to walk among us. His is the best example. He was not shouting from rooftops and advertising he was Son of God - He went about doing good, and when people inquired who He was to do these things, He answered honestly. I think the hardest thing for me to remember is that God's way, His Will, is what will make me the happiest. My prideful will gets me in trouble, and I cannot foresee the consequences of my choices. Only by allowing God to lead me, even when it seems doubtful, confusing or even dangerous - only then can I know I am doing good. It is in trusting Jesus that my needs are taken care of. God bless.

Hey Matt! I love your channel, always deep, glorious discussions. One point that Dr Martin made, but did not fully explain, was the fact that the Apostles died for Christ in Truth (they were not Martyrs in Faith but Truth). The Apostles did not deny Jesus Christ because they knew it to be true, they WITNESSED the miracles, the crucifixion, and the Resurrection. It would be logically impossible to believe the Apostles would accept torture, imprisonment, and death for a belief they KNEW was a lie.
1:35:33 Wow! I have long known patience is my strongest virtue, but I have relegated it to others. I am far too impatient with myself. I keep trying to improve myself in either spiritual or secular ways and finding frustration in not having the fortitude or ability to just "tell myself to do something and follow through." I see that I am technically able but don't quite get things done. This was a repeat thing especially with my online business for the past six years.
Honestly, if they're willing, I'd love to see you invite one of those cardinals that are preaching homosexuality. Not to give them a platform, but just to hear them out and let free speech reveal the truth to all the viewers. Maybe even get someone on to debate them? I doubt they'd be up for it, but I'm sure it would be a very highly watched video if you could pull it off!
Thank you, Dr. Martin! I didn't understand for a long time and when I first heard you and Peter Herbeck I though you were too intense. But I now see the truth and joy and hope to be and open and in love with Jesus as you are. BTW for Matt Fradd, Bishop Barron has publicly made statements about homosexuality similar to Cardinals Marx and Hollerich. I don't believe a word he says anymore.
@@michaelbaumert4501 I heard him on Word on Fire October 20, 2019 in the question and answer. I remember this because I was shocked that Bishop Barron said the church has been wrong on the teaching on homosexuality and sent an email to a radio host the next day on October 21, 2020.

@@michaelbaumert4501 I heard him on Word on Fire broadcast on EWTN Radio in the afternoon about 2pm. I remember this very clearly as it was shocking to hear a Bishop say this. I have tried to look up archives for Word on Fire for that Day but haven't found it. The following is an excerpt from an email sent the following day to a radio broadcaster. Typically she commented nothing in return. If you want the original email forwarded to you I can do that. "Did you hear Bishop Barron talk about how the church is wrong on gay people? He said, technically the homosexual act intrinsically evil because it's not ordered according to it's ultimate means. But the church can do much better and has been wrong in the approach to gay persons. That got my attention, he said the church has been mistaken on it's approach to gay people. I heard it on the Word of Fire broadcast by EWTN Sunday afternoon. He's supposed to have it posted on reddit but I'm not technically advanced enough to find it."
@@fieldcrew6691 How is what Bishop Barron said (as you have paraphrased above) any different from the concept of "hate the sin but not the sinner?" I'm deeply concerned that many Christians seem to be indulging their personal visceral hatred of gay people, as people, and using the Bible as a justification for this, either unable or unwilling to see the difference. At least Bishop Barron clearly understands the difference, and I see that as a huge point in his favor.
We can't even say its in the name of being EFFECTIVE, its clearly not even pragmatic. It can only be attributed as intending to destroy the Catholic Faith. Serving Satan and not Christ.

I had to laugh at the "are these all yours" question near the beginning. We have seven children, and the first five were all born within 10 years. When I would take them shopping, I would get all those questions: "Are they all yours?" "Don't you know how this happens?" When my husband took them shopping on the other hand, everyone was always so impressed by a dad taking all these kids shopping. The difference always made me laugh. Dr. Martin, if you see this, I want you to know how much I love The Fulfillment of All Desire. I have all of our children read it during high school.

Consider two reasons that one might become Catholic. 1) You believe that the God of the universe sent His Son to die for our salvation, that He was raised again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He founded the Catholic Church as His mystical body - the society He commands us to belong to until He comes again 2) In detestation of all things modern and perverted, one sees in the Catholic Church a vehicle for manifesting one’s own hatred and contempt for modernity. When the modern world practises and valorises vice and immodesty, the Church allows you to embrace incense, old-timey regal clothing, rhythmic chanting and all things diametrically opposed - aesthetically - to what modernity stands for. These different reasons lead to different predictions about what one’s life looks like when, due to the crisis in the Church, the Church loses some of its power to act as tribal counter-marker to modernity. When the boat starts to rock, and the Church experiences a crisis of the kind discussed in this episode (cardinals rejecting moral revelation, embracing religious indifferentism etc). Reason (1) Catholics - motivated solely by Christ’s call to unite with His mystical body - are broken hearted, yet loyal, clinging firmly to the barque of Peter, to the see of Rome, the seat of unity. For as Peter himself said about the man whose vicar he was: “Where else shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life”. Reason (2) Catholics, by contrast, will struggle to maintain the signalling effects they are seeking from Church membership. What they do then, is seek to flee the Church. They embrace sedevacantist cults, or de facto schismatic sects which functionally abandon the See of Rome, seeking instead to maintain the aesthetic trappings of anti-modernity, traditionalist Catholicism. They will follow the latin language and reception on the tongue right out of the Church and past the seat of Christian unity, truly missing the forrest for the trees. It is truly heartbreaking to see people go down this path. (Please note that I have not here accused any particular individual of being a reason (2) Catholic. I cannot read hearts and minds).

Matt suggested making such a very imprudent comment to that elderly, cute Catholic lady that commented on his wife not having more kids. Making light of suicide is unpastoral, which is very much the opposite of how Matt usually responds to people. Hope this comment is taken as a sisterly accountability rather than harsh criticism!!!
"Get your murderous hands off my wife's sacred body!" would have been my reaction, I think. His wife could have just quoted the Bible: "Get behind me, you Satan. You are thinking as man, and not as God."

Dr. Martin -I see time as a creation of God, Eternity is not endless time, it is, so to speak, lack of time, timelessness. Time allows us to experience life in pieces, not all at once. When we die we step into 'eternity' experiencing what God created us for. Our bodies will be part of that. If, and a big if, we chose to follow God's lead. Those who don't chose God's way will, with their bodies, be experiencing eternity in a place intended for fallen angels, separated from God. This is how Jesus could tell the thief on the cross 'This day you will be with me in Paradise' eventho Jesus spent 3 days in the tomb and the realm of death. And 'a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day to God'
Just one correction to something Ralph said; “all these people have been appointed by the pope”; that’s true, but the implication is that he’s speaking of Pope Francis. I believe Cardinal Marx was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop by Saint Pope John Paul II and appointed as Archbishop and Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI. Just so we are clear. I heartily appreciate Ralph’s clarity and faithfulness!
Yes! Have been getting links and phone calls from friends, saying, 'Do you know what the Pope said?' 'Do you know what the Pope wrote?' - all scandalized and full of horror. I kept repeating, 'For every ONE negative thing I hear about Pope Francis, I'm going to pray five Hail Mary's for him.' So far, one friend has slowed down the stream of links and has even said that she will need to take my example and pray for him in Lent. We have to change our hearts. God is glorified in the sacrifice of Christ, because Jesus died on the cross so people could spend eternity in heaven praising God. God DESERVES people to go to heaven. HE DESERVES the glory of every single person. If I don't pray for someone I think is at risk of losing his soul, I'm saying to Jesus, 'You know, your sacrifice on the Cross is so negligible that wasting it - standing by while people risk hell - is no big deal. You suffered and died for THAT PERSON, and I don't care if your suffering and death goes to waste because that person loses heaven.' I can't look at a Crucifix and think about what Jesus suffered and his death and be willing to allow ANYBODY to let that sacrifice go to waste. Even the person who has hurt me most, personally, I need to pray to go to heaven, not because that person 'deserves a reward for sin' (I don't deserve heaven; no person does). I pray for that person because JESUS DESERVES THE GLORY of that person repenting and praising him forever in heaven.
Jesus didn't say, 'Call no man good; only God is good.' He asked a question: 'Why do you call me good? Only God is good.' The point here, is that if you answer the question, 'I call you good because you ARE good,' then you can only conclude: 'You are God.' 'Why do you call me good?' is a bit like God asking Adam, 'Where are you?' so Adam will honestly recognize where he is vis-a-vis God. 'Why do you call me good? Only God is good' is a call for the responder to come to his own conclusion about who Jesus is.

I heard a version of that story and understood it to be telling us not to have a narrow or specific idea of what a sign from God should look like ("I prayed and prayed that you would save me from the flood, Lord." God: "Yes, I don't understand what happened, either, because I sent you two boats and a helicopter..."). I read somewhere that many churches have seen an increased attendance at Latin Mass by very young people, including many teenagers, which is really interesting. It's so sad to see all the political indoctrination they're exposed to at school, and at least some of them seem to be reaching out for something solid and good and true. All is not lost.
I've always thought that story about the person on the roof waiting for God to save him from the flood was stupid. Nobody would behave that way. How can anyone listen to that story to the end, without objecting, 'This is idiotic. Nobody actually behaves that way.' And thus the 'conclusion' is invalid because the story doesn't work. It's like telling a story of someone who wanted to contact a friend and refused to use a phone, refused to call, refused to text, refused to write a letter because he was waiting for the friend to tune into his mental telepathy. Nobody behaves that way - so it's just... badly written and dumb.
Dr Taylor Marshall and Patrick Coffin speak the truth. It took a long time for these good Catholic men to come to their conclusions, all based on the actions of this pope Evil prevails when good men ignore it.
We forget that true Charity includes condemning error especially when it threatens souls. It is a sin against charity to let your neighbor live in error and refuse to rescue them with truth. Calling heresy heresy is not sinful, but one must be sure that it is done in charity. Our new religion of nice is afraid to call error and sin what it is, and instead leads souls into error and damnation under the pretense of charity - false charity.
Pope Francis seems sympathetic to expanding homosexual and sodomite culture within the church but opposed to abortion. He also seems highly sympathetic to utopian aspirations for the church. He also seems apathetic to communist expansion globally as he's appeased the Chinese communist party. On the global stage he seems very sympathetic to sin and almost opposed to virtue. His contempt for piety is also rather bizarre.
I think we really don’t know what Pope Benedict thinks. He is physically dependent on the Vatican and if he disagreed with Pope Francis word might not get out. Elders being isolated is a very common problem and there is a lot of intrigue in the Vatican.
John of the Cross is HUGE!!!!!!! The mystics (Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Sienna, St. Bonaventure, St. John Climacus) will take you next level!!! Listen to them on TH-cam!!! You have to listen to them a couple times....you won't understand most of it the first time through. John of the Cross himself said you had to read his works 2x!!!! LEVEL UP!
I think it’s time that the good priests and faith communities start thinking about back up plans on if the worst comes to worst creating an effective resistance underground perhaps 🤔

1:00:00 'Cowardness'? From time to time Ralph Martin uses English in a way that I have never heard before. I've spent my professional life studying and teaching the English language, and I wonder where he comes from based on some 'words' he uses and some pronunciations. Is he Canadian?

I love Dr. Martin, but I have some real issues with Pope Francis. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that he is not the Pope, nor that he is an Anti-Pope, but I am really honestly very concerned that he never ever corrects those who are wrong ( Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Nuns... ) On the contrary, he at least seems to be confirming them in their errors and sins, at least by not correcting them... And that is causing confusion, and God is not the author of confusion... Should we just say, we should not be anxious because Jesus Christ is Lord? Amen, Jesus Christ is Lord, but I really do not think that our Lord wants us to be inactive and indifferent, on the contrary, He wants us to act... I am not asking for a revolution or a reformation ( like the protestants ) for they were and are against the Catholic Church, me on the other hand, I am against the wolves in sheep`s clothing who are against the Catholic Church from within, and I don`t care who they are and no matter who they are... Do I hate them or am I asking people to hate them? Not at all, for If I did hate them, I would ignore them and let them perish in their error.. But because I do not hate them and because I do not want them to perish in their error, I and hopefully you should pray for them, and speak against their errors and false teachings and even condemn their false Satanic teachings. 31:58 I don't think Pope Francis is an antipope, although he certainly is a heretic (material at the very least). However, were he an antipope and you figured it out and chose not to act on it, then you definitely will be held accountable at judgement day.
I’d have you listen to a good priest, Father Altman on Francis who’s leading many astray. Does one need to preach formal heresy to lead many to hell? In many ways it’s way worse to be ambiguous with the intention of promoting the sins of sodomy, paganism, God wills the plurality of religion, praising Martin Luther, denouncing the title Vicar of Christ! This is what one does when they don’t want you to be able to call them out on their wrong doing.
The discussion about Francis is simply not focusing on the right point. The big issue is not whether Francis is a "heretic" or "antipope." The real question is: >>>"Is it SAFE to follow Francis?"
You have to truly know what it is that the Pope actually says and teaches not just go along with what people talk. Do you not believe and trust in God Almighty? Only God knows why things happen why he permits all these things, who are we to question God? That's why most of these podcast are so wrong in so many ways. They Question God through the actions of those in our Church. God is in control we must Trust in Him and do our part! Prayer, fasting, penance, reading our Bible helping our neighbors.
@@luzvargas76 One can at the same time (1) be fully aware of what Francis 'actually says and teaches' and (2) 'trust God and do his part' (pray, do penance, etc.). You seem to imply that there is a conflict between doing the two things. I often see this kind of comment put forward as a way to avoid having to deal with the cold reality of Francis' actual magisterium. So, is it spiritually safe for a Catholic to follow Francis' official statements and teachings?

My "dark night" was Oct 14, 2021 when I had to have the doctor disconnect my beloved husband of 32 years from life support. He was brain dead and after Clyde was disconnected I sat on the side of his bed in the hospital holding his hand, talking to him and praying for us both as it took over 5 minutes for his heart to stop beating. Then I kissed him goodbye, told him that I'd always love him and be faithful to him and then told the nurse to call his death. It was 7:02 pm.
"Prot" here, acknowledging that while much of what I hear from Catholics sounds a little crazy. BUT - it's because of the MANY crazy things I see and hear from my fellow Prots that I continue to watch and listen to these videos. Thank you for doing this work.
Consider the following: If you were to know that the Catholic Church is the Church established by Christ and the Church he left his Holy Spirit with, then you'd not care for your own personal opinions, because you would know that the Catholic Church's teaching is the Word of God and not man and so you could not possibly have any disagreements with it... At least, you would not have long-lived disagreements because who knows better than God? Certainly not man.

I'm not saying that you're misunderstanding Catholic belief, since you might understand it but may find it a little crazy for another reason besides it being a misunderstanding... Either way, it's a good sign that you're earnestly searching for the truth and with an open mind, giving Catholicism a fair shot.

Dr. Martin offers an excellent example for Christians of any tradition or denomination. He doesn't spend time focused on what he might view as wrong teaching or practice in other traditions, instead he speaks positively about what the Catholic Church and faith have to offer. It is an example that many Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic speakers would do well to adopt. We are in a spiritual battle, and there are faithful in all traditions fighting on the right side in this battle. To unnecessarily alienate one another does nothing more than serve Satan's purposes.

I think that most of the standoffishness from Protestants with momma Mary has to do with a lack of understanding in what Catholics really believe about her. Once you really dive in and pray about relationship with her there’s very little that you’ll continue to disagree with. No we do not need momma Mary but she helps a lot in getting to know and love Jesus better. She’s a gift from God.
I would highly suggest picking up the book by St Alphonsus called The Glories of Mary. There are free PDFs of the whole book online but I recommend "The Glories of Mary from Catholic Book Publishing," it's a little blue book, only about 100 pages. I love it, because it has a lovely forward that really frames the book well. And, Scott Hahn has suggested the book The Assumption of Mary by Killian J. Healy, O. Carm. Which might help a lot with getting over that hump with accepting the dogmas of Mary or when you start saying the rosary. 🤗

Those were good points on the dark nights of the soul. My dark nights came unexpectedly from attending daily mass, always hoping and expecting to experience zeal and courage from the priests and to hear moral truth to shepherd us faithful, but now I limit myself to weekly, because otherwise the banal and cowardly homilies leave me so frustrated and it's better to minimize such reactions. I can't change them and must leave that to God, but I can limit the damage that their negligence can to my soul and I want to avoid becoming entirely driven away.
It's about receiving the Eucharist. Homilies are a bonus.

Unfortunately I can't shut my ears and must endure banality and cowardice when, in fact, as a reflection on the Word, homilies should retain some of the divine charge to electrify the soul. Who would change car oil without at once changing the filter? Perhaps that analogy is imperfect, but hopefully you understand my point.
I think Ralph is great. I do feel he's to laxed on the evils of the hierarchy of the church. He ended on a high note we should fear God more than man. I use Hallow and have done Exodus 90 and am doing the lenten version now. I recommend both. God Bless Matt love your show.

I always thought my family was small, so I'm so surprised that people think 3 or 4 children is a lot! I always wanted a dozen children but am blessed to have had at least one. Humility - Christ humbled himself to walk among us. His is the best example. He was not shouting from rooftops and advertising he was Son of God - He went about doing good, and when people inquired who He was to do these things, He answered honestly. I think the hardest thing for me to remember is that God's way, His Will, is what will make me the happiest. My prideful will gets me in trouble, and I cannot foresee the consequences of my choices. Only by allowing God to lead me, even when it seems doubtful, confusing or even dangerous - only then can I know I am doing good. It is in trusting Jesus that my needs are taken care of. God bless.

One point that Dr Martin made, but did not fully explain, was the fact that the Apostles died for Christ in Truth (they were not Martyrs in Faith but Truth).
The Apostles did not deny Jesus Christ because they knew it to be true, they WITNESSED the miracles, the crucifixion, and the Resurrection.
It would be logically impossible to believe the Apostles would accept torture, imprisonment, and death for a belief they KNEW was a lie.

1:35:33 Wow! I have long known patience is my strongest virtue, but I have relegated it to others. I am far too impatient with myself. I keep trying to improve myself in either spiritual or secular ways and finding frustration in not having the fortitude or ability to just "tell myself to do something and follow through." I see that I am technically able but don't quite get things done. This was a repeat thing especially with my online business for the past six years.
Honestly, if they're willing, I'd love to see you invite one of those cardinals that are preaching homosexuality. Not to give them a platform, but just to hear them out and let free speech reveal the truth to all the viewers. Maybe even get someone on to debate them? I doubt they'd be up for it, but I'm sure it would be a very highly watched video if you could pull it off!

BTW for Matt Fradd, Bishop Barron has publicly made statements about homosexuality similar to Cardinals Marx and Hollerich. I don't believe a word he says anymore.

I have tried to look up archives for Word on Fire for that Day but haven't found it. The following is an excerpt from an email sent the following day to a radio broadcaster. Typically she commented nothing in return. If you want the original email forwarded to you I can do that.
"Did you hear Bishop Barron talk about how the church is wrong on gay people?
He said, technically the homosexual act intrinsically evil because it's not ordered according to it's ultimate means.
But the church can do much better and has been wrong in the approach to gay persons. That got my attention, he said the church has been mistaken on it's approach to gay people.
I heard it on the Word of Fire broadcast by EWTN Sunday afternoon. He's supposed to have it posted on reddit but I'm not technically advanced enough to find it."
@@fieldcrew6691 How is what Bishop Barron said (as you have paraphrased above) any different from the concept of "hate the sin but not the sinner?" I'm deeply concerned that many Christians seem to be indulging their personal visceral hatred of gay people, as people, and using the Bible as a justification for this, either unable or unwilling to see the difference. At least Bishop Barron clearly understands the difference, and I see that as a huge point in his favor.

I had to laugh at the "are these all yours" question near the beginning. We have seven children, and the first five were all born within 10 years. When I would take them shopping, I would get all those questions: "Are they all yours?" "Don't you know how this happens?" When my husband took them shopping on the other hand, everyone was always so impressed by a dad taking all these kids shopping. The difference always made me laugh.

I think it deserves thinking about. Why is a man a hero for taking care of kids, but a woman is - what? an irresponsible slattern for having more than 1.3 children? Consider two reasons that one might become Catholic.
1) You believe that the God of the universe sent His Son to die for our salvation, that He was raised again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that He founded the Catholic Church as His mystical body - the society He commands us to belong to until He comes again
2) In detestation of all things modern and perverted, one sees in the Catholic Church a vehicle for manifesting one’s own hatred and contempt for modernity. When the modern world practises and valorises vice and immodesty, the Church allows you to embrace incense, old-timey regal clothing, rhythmic chanting and all things diametrically opposed - aesthetically - to what modernity stands for.
These different reasons lead to different predictions about what one’s life looks like when, due to the crisis in the Church, the Church loses some of its power to act as tribal counter-marker to modernity. When the boat starts to rock, and the Church experiences a crisis of the kind discussed in this episode (cardinals rejecting moral revelation, embracing religious indifferentism etc). Reason (1) Catholics - motivated solely by Christ’s call to unite with His mystical body - are broken hearted, yet loyal, clinging firmly to the barque of Peter, to the see of Rome, the seat of unity. For as Peter himself said about the man whose vicar he was: “Where else shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life”.
Reason (2) Catholics, by contrast, will struggle to maintain the signalling effects they are seeking from Church membership. What they do then, is seek to flee the Church. They embrace sedevacantist cults, or de facto schismatic sects which functionally abandon the See of Rome, seeking instead to maintain the aesthetic trappings of anti-modernity, traditionalist Catholicism. They will follow the latin language and reception on the tongue right out of the Church and past the seat of Christian unity, truly missing the forrest for the trees. It is truly heartbreaking to see people go down this path.
(Please note that I have not here accused any particular individual of being a reason (2) Catholic. I cannot read hearts and minds).

Matt suggested making such a very imprudent comment to that elderly, cute Catholic lady that commented on his wife not having more kids. Making light of suicide is unpastoral, which is very much the opposite of how Matt usually responds to people. Hope this comment is taken as a sisterly accountability rather than harsh criticism!!!
"Get your murderous hands off my wife's sacred body!" would have been my reaction, I think. His wife could have just quoted the Bible: "Get behind me, you Satan. You are thinking as man, and not as God."

Dr. Martin -I see time as a creation of God, Eternity is not endless time, it is, so to speak, lack of time, timelessness. Time allows us to experience life in pieces, not all at once. When we die we step into 'eternity' experiencing what God created us for. Our bodies will be part of that. If, and a big if, we chose to follow God's lead. Those who don't chose God's way will, with their bodies, be experiencing eternity in a place intended for fallen angels, separated from God. This is how Jesus could tell the thief on the cross 'This day you will be with me in Paradise' eventho Jesus spent 3 days in the tomb and the realm of death. And 'a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day to God'

Just one correction to something Ralph said; “all these people have been appointed by the pope”; that’s true, but the implication is that he’s speaking of Pope Francis. I believe Cardinal Marx was appointed as an Auxiliary Bishop by Saint Pope John Paul II and appointed as Archbishop and Cardinal by Pope Benedict XVI. Just so we are clear. I heartily appreciate Ralph’s clarity and faithfulness!

Yes! Have been getting links and phone calls from friends, saying, 'Do you know what the Pope said?' 'Do you know what the Pope wrote?' - all scandalized and full of horror. I kept repeating, 'For every ONE negative thing I hear about Pope Francis, I'm going to pray five Hail Mary's for him.' So far, one friend has slowed down the stream of links and has even said that she will need to take my example and pray for him in Lent. We have to change our hearts.
God is glorified in the sacrifice of Christ, because Jesus died on the cross so people could spend eternity in heaven praising God. God DESERVES people to go to heaven. HE DESERVES the glory of every single person. If I don't pray for someone I think is at risk of losing his soul, I'm saying to Jesus, 'You know, your sacrifice on the Cross is so negligible that wasting it - standing by while people risk hell - is no big deal. You suffered and died for THAT PERSON, and I don't care if your suffering and death goes to waste because that person loses heaven.'
I can't look at a Crucifix and think about what Jesus suffered and his death and be willing to allow ANYBODY to let that sacrifice go to waste. Even the person who has hurt me most, personally, I need to pray to go to heaven, not because that person 'deserves a reward for sin' (I don't deserve heaven; no person does). I pray for that person because JESUS DESERVES THE GLORY of that person repenting and praising him forever in heaven.
Jesus didn't say, 'Call no man good; only God is good.' He asked a question: 'Why do you call me good? Only God is good.' The point here, is that if you answer the question, 'I call you good because you ARE good,' then you can only conclude: 'You are God.' 'Why do you call me good?' is a bit like God asking Adam, 'Where are you?' so Adam will honestly recognize where he is vis-a-vis God. 'Why do you call me good? Only God is good' is a call for the responder to come to his own conclusion about who Jesus is.

I heard a version of that story and understood it to be telling us not to have a narrow or specific idea of what a sign from God should look like ("I prayed and prayed that you would save me from the flood, Lord." God: "Yes, I don't understand what happened, either, because I sent you two boats and a helicopter...").
I read somewhere that many churches have seen an increased attendance at Latin Mass by very young people, including many teenagers, which is really interesting. It's so sad to see all the political indoctrination they're exposed to at school, and at least some of them seem to be reaching out for something solid and good and true. All is not lost.
I've always thought that story about the person on the roof waiting for God to save him from the flood was stupid. Nobody would behave that way. How can anyone listen to that story to the end, without objecting, 'This is idiotic. Nobody actually behaves that way.' And thus the 'conclusion' is invalid because the story doesn't work. It's like telling a story of someone who wanted to contact a friend and refused to use a phone, refused to call, refused to text, refused to write a letter because he was waiting for the friend to tune into his mental telepathy. Nobody behaves that way - so it's just... badly written and dumb.

We forget that true Charity includes condemning error especially when it threatens souls. It is a sin against charity to let your neighbor live in error and refuse to rescue them with truth. Calling heresy heresy is not sinful, but one must be sure that it is done in charity. Our new religion of nice is afraid to call error and sin what it is, and instead leads souls into error and damnation under the pretense of charity - false charity.
Pope Francis seems sympathetic to expanding homosexual and sodomite culture within the church but opposed to abortion. He also seems highly sympathetic to utopian aspirations for the church. He also seems apathetic to communist expansion globally as he's appeased the Chinese communist party.
On the global stage he seems very sympathetic to sin and almost opposed to virtue.
His contempt for piety is also rather bizarre.

I think we really don’t know what Pope Benedict thinks. He is physically dependent on the Vatican and if he disagreed with Pope Francis word might not get out. Elders being isolated is a very common problem and there is a lot of intrigue in the Vatican.

I love Dr. Martin, but I have some real issues with Pope Francis. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that he is not the Pope, nor that he is an Anti-Pope, but I am really honestly very concerned that he never ever corrects those who are wrong ( Cardinals, Bishops, Priests, Nuns... ) On the contrary, he at least seems to be confirming them in their errors and sins, at least by not correcting them... And that is causing confusion, and God is not the author of confusion... Should we just say, we should not be anxious because Jesus Christ is Lord? Amen, Jesus Christ is Lord, but I really do not think that our Lord wants us to be inactive and indifferent, on the contrary, He wants us to act... I am not asking for a revolution or a reformation ( like the protestants ) for they were and are against the Catholic Church, me on the other hand, I am against the wolves in sheep`s clothing who are against the Catholic Church from within, and I don`t care who they are and no matter who they are... Do I hate them or am I asking people to hate them? Not at all, for If I did hate them, I would ignore them and let them perish in their error.. But because I do not hate them and because I do not want them to perish in their error, I and hopefully you should pray for them, and speak against their errors and false teachings and even condemn their false Satanic teachings. 31:58 I don't think Pope Francis is an antipope, although he certainly is a heretic (material at the very least). However, were he an antipope and you figured it out and chose not to act on it, then you definitely will be held accountable at judgement day.
I’d have you listen to a good priest, Father Altman on Francis who’s leading many astray. Does one need to preach formal heresy to lead many to hell? In many ways it’s way worse to be ambiguous with the intention of promoting the sins of sodomy, paganism, God wills the plurality of religion, praising Martin Luther, denouncing the title Vicar of Christ! This is what one does when they don’t want you to be able to call them out on their wrong doing.
The discussion about Francis is simply not focusing on the right point. The big issue is not whether Francis is a "heretic" or "antipope." The real question is: >>>"Is it SAFE to follow Francis?"
You have to truly know what it is that the Pope actually says and teaches not just go along with what people talk. Do you not believe and trust in God Almighty? Only God knows why things happen why he permits all these things, who are we to question God? That's why most of these podcast are so wrong in so many ways. They Question God through the actions of those in our Church. God is in control we must Trust in Him and do our part! Prayer, fasting, penance, reading our Bible helping our neighbors.
@@luzvargas76 One can at the same time (1) be fully aware of what Francis 'actually says and teaches' and (2) 'trust God and do his part' (pray, do penance, etc.). You seem to imply that there is a conflict between doing the two things. I often see this kind of comment put forward as a way to avoid having to deal with the cold reality of Francis' actual magisterium.
So, is it spiritually safe for a Catholic to follow Francis' official statements and teachings?
