I remember when my dad bought me this game when I was just a kid... I never had a memory card so I used to learn every trap and jump by heart. I knew it inside and out. didn't power off my ps1 over night so I could continue where I paused. Sometimes I come here and remember my childhood, the video gives me flashbacks of many things.. I cry now and then... the tears can't be expalined by words.. you would have to experience such things yourself.....

The best TR game for me. Just because of how long it was, the atmosphere and how incredibly hard some of the puzzles were. If you played this without the internet, you would have struggled to finish it. Not to mention, some of the best levels in the whole franchise e.g. The Lost Library & Desert Railroad.
Yup in the 90s with limited internet access, I had to buy a walkthrough magazine (those were a thing back then) just to finish it. It was insanely difficult to play as a kid.

After the passable Tomb Raider 2 and the god awful Tomb Raider 3, Tomb Raider 4 redeemed the franchise and brought it back to what made the original such a fun game to play.

This was a wild and crazy game. I remember the day I got it, right after it came out. I drove straight to the mall just for TR! Then I holed up in the house and refused to come out until I had played through it lol. It also reminds me of eating those little Philadelphia cheese cake squares lol, because I gobbled up a whole box that weekend while I was playing haha!
Similar story, i remember being summer in a reaaally hot day in a sunday and since i woke up i started playing TR chronicles from the very beginning (i think the game was new, my father came home at night with that game on the previous day) and i only stop before sleeping. I remember taking some breaks going out to buy ice-cream on the shop next to my childhood house and i would take the ice-creams back to my room to eat them while playing lool MARVELOUS DAYS
OMG the same thing happened to me. I tried every thing possible to overcome that level but I couldn't. I was stuck there for months. At that time I didn't have internet to search for the solution. But after a year or so we got internet and was finally able to pass that level. I was so happy.. Beautiful days
This is my favourite Tomb Raider :) The other classics I've played so often I just rush through them, but this one I always take my time, soaking up the atmosphere!
This game is the best TR ever. The level design is so so well done! The music is perfect and the story is so good. Love this game so much. You can see the improvement on this one in comparison to TR3 in terms of diffeculty. Tr3 was to hard...I mean...many of the puzzles were without any source of clues so you had to figure them out on best luck. Wich I hated. In TR4 there was always a clue to find out how to solve a puzzle.
Best TR game in my opinion. Seems to be criminally underrated or just forgotten for some reason. Whenever people talk about the classic TR games they usually only mention 1-3.

I received it as a birthday gift on my 11th birthday and I love it so much since the first glimpse. I didn't know English back then, I can't understand what are they talking about, so my every move was hard as hell. But the character and the voice of Lara have already been my cuppa tea. Now I speak the purest RP accent of English, I'm from China.

I was 5 in '99 when this came out and my grandparents got it for my aunts Playstation which I eventually took over. (Spyro4Life💜) No wonder I never made it past 17:45, i'm seriously amazed though by how much more this game had. I'd normally just run around and swim in 4:45

@Nick FLick Yeah, after that RE3 "remake" I sadly have to agree with you. Games today lost their charm and it feels like devs are trying way too hard to appeal to casuals and non gamers. The result is watered down on-rails hand holding experience with 0 challenge.
This really deserves a remake. One of the things that this tomb raider got right is sticking to the tradition of the franchise; Actually raiding tombs, excuse the pun :). One of my inputs though would be; add more complex enemies especially within the tombs, this game was very good at creating this sense of dread when you were in dark tombs which haven't been visited for decades even centuries. Making the player feel like there's some evil entity looming which will surely make its presence felt soon but you were just left to take keys, jars, pull switches and just leave. Overall a masterpiece of a game and a gold contribution to the franchise, definitely one of the greatest titles to the franchise. In addition brings back such contented childhood memories :):)
I thought the same thing watching back through the gameplay. I guess it seemed like there were more enemies when I played this as a kid. Now, watching it as an adult, it seems like they were an afterthought and the entire game is just about getting lost in endless hallway mazes. If there ever was a remake, I’d say that the game would be perfect if they kept everything as is and just added more combat. Also, difficulty levels. Higher difficulty could be for people who want enemies while easy would be much like the original.

THE MEMORIES I remember this game was installed on my school computers and I used to stay after class HOURS playing this game, everyday since the beginning because the progress was not saved (or I didn't know how to save it), so the beginning of this game I know it by memory I always tried to go further everyday but the most I could get is until the guide gets trapped and Lara has to continue alone, that's the furthest I got 🤣💕

Also, me, my cousins, my parents, my uncle and my auntie were watching The Mummy (starring Brendan Fraser) on the late evening of Xmas Day after I gave myself a break from all-day PSX gameplay. Both movie and this game inspired me to become an Ancient Egyptologist. Good old times and I'm glad my childhood was in the 90s. 45:30 I did find this scene and music were so eerie.

Just developers had to use nice music and story instead of graphic contents and action scenes, so limited in psx

I remember playing this game when I was around 10, 11. My parents wouldn't let me play much but I managed to reach the Coastal Ruins and then I got stuck there and didn't had the time to play it. Seeing the amount of puzzles and platforming now I thought to myself how did you even got to that point? You were a genius! Ah, good old days

TR AoD was terrible. It almost killed the franchise. The newest trilogy is pretty good but it doesn't beat the classic 4 TRs.

This was always my favourite game for a long while as a kid, but I always vividly remember 1:00:16. Both singlehandedly pulled me into wanting to know all about the Ancient Egyptians and also spooked the shit out of me.

Took me months if not a year when I was young to get out of the first tomb after the tutorial. It was so dark & awesome & I was genuinely afraid & got jump scared sometimes
this is the only TR game I haven't beat , but that's why I'm here now ..... been playing the TR franchise since 2002 .....
