Used to go to the Comedy Store every Sunday night where Sam worked on new material. Gotta tell you, I spent many a night on the floor unable to breathe from laughing so hard. Saw him there at least a dozen times and many of the routines never made it into his "formal" act, but I'm telling you ... it was probably his best stuff. He'd riff off the audience and it was stuff you just couldn't write. Damn, I miss him.
As a teenager in the Bible Belt in the 80s, I saw this with a friend of mine and we were rolling on the floor laughing, especially the crucifixion part at the end. We couldn't believe they put that on TV, lol.
I can't believe I remember this exact routine. Malcom-Jamal Warner was hosting and I just remember this one was one of my favorite episodes, because of Sam. And I was 11.
I remember watching this episode went it premiered. It was awesome! The material from 03:08 and 05:38 was not done in the dress rehearsal. This is noticeabley missing from old reruns of this episode.
I'm only now starting to realize how smart, hilarious and brilliant this guy was. I I'm on the floor ten seconds into any set he does. I only recently found out how he died and was stunned.
man i never realised he was so talented and funny. his story telling ability with all the hidden sudden jokes is genius... really could listent o all this guys gigs. brilliant
I use the drug war line all the time. I’ll come home from a night of partying to my college roommate and I’ll go “I’m home from fighting the drug war.”
True. He died on I40 on the way to perform in Laughlin NV. They took him to the hospital in Needles CA where my wife’s aunt worked as an ER nurse. He was loaded with cocaine. Still miss him greatly. Sad to lose anyone to their demons. 😢
This is legendary Kinison at his best. The audience seems to react the same way when Andy Kaufman first broke out, They dont quite know how to take him.
Sam went and saw a young Chris Rock in New York doing stand up. He liked Chris and invited him to SNL. The rest is history. If you don't believe go to you tube and watch Chris Rock and Sam Kinison.
My sibs and I wore out my uncle's VHS tape of Kinison's stand-up at family reunions. We scrambled to hide it whenever other relatives entered the room.
this is the first time i've seen this appearance unedited. 2 weeks later he hosted SNL and the church lady laid into him about his jokes about "crack and Christ". those were the days. we lost sam 30 years ago today. damn we sure could use his comedy now.
I'm sure this would have been much funnier if he didn't have to censor himself. His debut at Rodney Dangerfield's Young Comedians Show is the funniest thing I have ever seen. I was literally in physical pain from laughing so hard.
You know your act is bad when you get banned from SNL. But 2 weeks later they had him on as guest host, that shows how much response the first time got.
Sam kinison and Richard Pryor were true the best comedians in the 20th century although they're vulgar and I don't know what else he always made me laugh
Funny thing is i thing Sam used this one to later refine the jokes. The Robertson bit was way funnier later. And the repeats himself a lot yeh he wasn't all in here 😂😂
Just imagine how stressed the NBC Executives were when this aired. Has to be the ONLY SK performance where he didn't curse! I've read that he was coked up for ALL his usual gigs. They probably had to keep him locked up in order to be COMPLETELY comfortable with letting him go on SNL.. 🤨
Yeah... THEY took Sam. THEY contrived the whole accident thing and convinced him he had serious injuries and was going to die a painful death if he didn't go with THEM now, so he caved and said ok... ok... ok and he was gone. Hope you're safe happy and at peace wherever you are Sam. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Weird considering he “peacefully talked to god” as he passed away on the side of the road .. not being disrespectful, this guy was an icon, just such a weird situation
He was and will always be one of my favorite comedians ever.💖💖💖💖😆😆😆😆😆

And then he would offer blow if you came back to his apartment behind the Store
@@jamesd242 He certainly had his demons, and lost to them frequently.
@@chadbennett7873 But that's not what killed him.
@@TheReal1953 Most likely not. I do not consider it unusual that it happened out in the middle of nowhere.
You know what’s funny😂 he was an actual preacher😂😂
One night he did a bit of preaching from the stage, just showing what he used to do ... very Pentecostal, but he had the chops!
SO THE KARMIC SCRIPT WAS TO USE HIS FIRE & BRIMSTONE IN A NEW DIRECTION TO MAKE PEOPLE LAUGH.
Not funny, deep.
L
Then he sold his soul. Did you notice right before the Jesus bit?
he held flashed up the 666
4:40
...about that time Jesus came to me & explain me about the non-profit corporation principle...simply hilarious
Sam may have been referring to Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker and their PTL Ministry. PTL stands for "Pass the Loot".
As a teenager in the Bible Belt in the 80s, I saw this with a friend of mine and we were rolling on the floor laughing, especially the crucifixion part at the end. We couldn't believe they put that on TV, lol.

Chris Rock also said Sam did multiple lines right before coming out
Came here right after listening to Chris Rock talk about it
@@StandardAI and looks like we got the edited part because Chris Rock mentioned some other Jesus on the cross joke.
@@AT-sd9qq The West Coast version.
Dow Chemicals: “Better Life through Chemistry”.
Sam came out of the womb and yelled at the doctor "PUT ME BACK!!!"
Where's the LOL icon? HAHAHAHA!
LMFAO🤣😂
😂 🤣
Hahaha
I read that in his scream! xD
My throat gets sore just listening to him! Love it!
Damn I miss this guy.
I miss this guy SO much.
what an absolute legend
he should be discussed in school
Lmao assuming school wants to help you

Yes, as a negative example.
I'm five years old... I'm not a waiter...I'm your son!! Hilarious!!
Lol
Memories....I remember recording this performance on VHS when it aired...who knows where the tape is now! Thankful for TH-cam
Freaking 90s man! That was a different animal!! 😂
I dont know how to brew tea im only 5 years old 😂 😂
I remember watching this episode went it premiered. It was awesome! The material from 03:08 and 05:38 was not done in the dress rehearsal. This is noticeabley missing from old reruns of this episode.
According to Chris Rock Sam actually brought him to this show.
lol, I just listened to that interview 3 minutes before watching this...
Again I love the part where Chris says he declined the drugs. 🥴
Miss you Sam you were one of the greatest ,RIP brother
I'm only now starting to realize how smart, hilarious and brilliant this guy was. I I'm on the floor ten seconds into any set he does. I only recently found out how he died and was stunned.

This is after he jumped the shark. Didn’t smile once. - His early stuff he was potentially the greatest stand up ever.
he was a walking tower of outrage and insanity
Correction. A walking tower of truth and sanity
Sammy's the Best, He is the kind of preacher I would go to church to see every Sunday. Travis X
I use the drug war line all the time. I’ll come home from a night of partying to my college roommate and I’ll go “I’m home from fighting the drug war.”
So damn brilliant 👏 🙌 The Great Sam Kinison!
He was so funny and honest.
So big and famous. Love Kinison. RIP.
Chris Rock talking about this night brought me here. Sam brought Chris who was an unknown comedian backstage with him. What a time it must've been.
Yeah, I like the part where Chris says he declined the drugs. 🥴
one of the best to ever do it, and so criminally underrated/unknown
rip
Died sober after living 10 lifetimes in a Trans Am after being hit by a drunk driver. A true original. RIP
Um no he had like 7 different drugs in system when he died
He wasn't sober, but he was trying.
True. He died on I40 on the way to perform in Laughlin NV. They took him to the hospital in Needles CA where my wife’s aunt worked as an ER nurse. He was loaded with cocaine. Still miss him greatly. Sad to lose anyone to their demons. 😢
I did NOT help that he was NOT using seatbelts, but his new wife was and survived the head on.
I once tried to teach a girlfriend how to scream like Kinison. I failed, but it sure was fun watching her face while I demonstrated the art.
I saw Sam do this live and remember the crack remark and final Jesus joke. When it was re-aired later in the season, those jokes had been excised.
I saw this live too (Malcolm Jamal Warner was the host), and this is the first time I've seen the whole routine since!
Sam was F-ing BEST
This is legendary Kinison at his best. The audience seems to react the same way when Andy Kaufman first broke out, They dont quite know how to take him.
I loved him in Throw Momma From The Train.
You don't have a cousin Paddy.
His sets will literally make u spit out your drink and/or roll on the floor laughing in a literally manner.
Sam Kinison is dead and Pat Robertson is still alive. There is no justice in the world.
“I DON’T KNOW HOW TO BREW TEA!”
They've got the pot. There's no more pot. Pot's gone. I was dying because it was so painfully true!
Sam went and saw a young Chris Rock in New York doing stand up. He liked Chris and invited him to SNL. The rest is history. If you don't believe go to you tube and watch Chris Rock and Sam Kinison.
Viva the comedy and memories of TGO - Kinison!
You cannot put controls on Wild Thing. Sam has got to let The Beast out.
Oh, Sam...
Where art thou?
We surely need you now.
My sibs and I wore out my uncle's VHS tape of Kinison's stand-up at family reunions. We scrambled to hide it whenever other relatives entered the room.
He was ----ing GREAT
Just heard Chris Rock say he met Sam the night before this show and Sam took him down to this SNL show.
you were right sam we got the pot back 2020!!! plain gold man from one pentecos to a nought god bless!!!
Miss you Sam.
I was there up in balcony. People look at me like the angel of death arrrrggggggh!!!!
Fun Fact, they cut his Jesus nailed to the Cross bit. They told him not to do it, he did it anyways..
the absolute best
Fearless

Cool footnote to this, a very young Chris Rock was actually in the audience as Sam's guest.
We’ll trade you the crack for the pot! 😹😹😹
This Guy is GREAT!!! Too bad he left us so soon...
If he had lived a little longer, he'd have been perfect to play the evil clown in Spawn.
goddammit, he was FUNNY!
I'm sorry he didn't live long enough to see drugs legalized 🙁
Just fantastic
I'm sure this would have been much funnier if he didn't have to censor himself. His debut at Rodney Dangerfield's Young Comedians Show is the funniest thing I have ever seen. I was literally in physical pain from laughing so hard.
Sam is so funny
and rock was just backstage
Sam Richard Kennison, whatta comedian
Samuel Burl Kinison, Jr.
Im glad they traded the crack for the pot 😂
If I do stand up, I will put my kinnison scream practice to good use
Got to hand it to Sam. His wardrobe fit him perfectly. Unique, irreverent and bold! 😂
Legend!
I think he was sober when he was doing the show
He did 2 to 3 lines of coke before he went out, according to Chris Rock.
I’ve never seen this before! How many times did he appear on Saturday Night Live?!?
edgy, wild, loud, and uncensored
You know your act is bad when you get banned from SNL. But 2 weeks later they had him on as guest host, that shows how much response the first time got.
totally uncensored comedy , don't get that today
i miss him he was original and very effing funny
Sam kinison and Richard Pryor were true the best comedians in the 20th century although they're vulgar and I don't know what else he always made me laugh
Sam and Richard could both work non-vulgar and STILL make us laugh...that's admirable!!
I can imagine that having people coming up to you and screaming would get pretty damned irritating after a while.
The people on the east coast saw this live but it was cut for thr west coast
wow, his shit is timeless
Love you Sam
If they ever make a movie about his life, there's only one man that can play this character.... Dean Norris. No joke
Dean Norris is 60 years old! Sam never got to see 40
Sam stared fear in the face; the thought of burning out a tonsil never bothered him in the least.
Funny thing is i thing Sam used this one to later refine the jokes. The Robertson bit was way funnier later. And the repeats himself a lot yeh he wasn't all in here 😂😂
Hilarious! 🤣
Kinison did a few lines of blow right before coming on stage, according to Chris Rock, lol
Died at 38 because he didn't wear his seatbelt? Thank you, Darwin.
He said he regrets Branding himself as the Screaming Comedian...and then he spends the entire set screaming.
great

I wonder what Sammy would think of pot being legal today
We would never know, cancel culture would cancel him before we could find out.
"I'M. FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVVVVVEEEEE. YEEEEEEAAAAARRRRSSSSSS OOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLDDDDDD!!!!!!!!"

Sam suffered from a severe case of stage fright evidently.
I wonder how Sam would have liked the PC, SJW's culture because that Jesus joke is way up there lol.
He would have criticized it and become a controversial figure.
He would have crucified them , and become even funnier
He despised Conservative cunts, can you grasp that ?
