- Lauryn Hill’s 1998 solo debut album 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' cemented her as the first superstar to excel at both singing and rapping. The New Jersey native had already given listeners a glimpse of both abilities as a member of the Fugees. On the group’s seminal 1996 album 'The Score,' Hill showed off her MCing skills on songs such as “Ready or Not” while demonstrating her powerful vocals on the group’s remake of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly With His Song.”

Pretty important in the development of Hip Hop and probably music in general. It's a shame she only dropped one album
MTV Unplugged
There are a lot of artists who drop just one record but they somehow change music history, Lauryn is the perfect example, legend
@@mrsivyy True
The term is called "one hit wonder"
If she has released only one album, how can you claim that she is a one hit wonder? As far as I know you need to release several other albums/songs whatever in order to distinguish between a successful one and none :D
The greatest woman in rap game ever
High Top Fade people say my music is slept on check it out for your self and be the judge🙏🙏🙏

Leaf Village city councilman I'm with you on that!!!
I still play Doo Wop and Killing Me Softly almost daily. And I was 2 when this album dropped, there's really no excuse for these rappers who don't know they HipHop history.
Aw cool two mainstream ass songs that don't even reflect a quarter of the lyrical talent on that album lol solid tho
My favourite is to Zion....I wasn't even Born when that Album dropped

Trully a masterpiece.
My favorite album of all time. A true singer and a true rapper. It seems silly almost to recognize it as just having melody in hip hop.
It's been 21 years and it's STILL the greatest album in music history
For real tho is it that good ?

Drake played himself with that statement.
He been on the charts for years and years...
doesnt make him the first succeful singer and rapper...
he said lauryn inspired him to sing and rap but yeah he no doubt played himself with that statement.

This Album is a Definition Of Real Music.
*Beautiful music
Stop with the musical gatekeeping
@Michaell Alexander There is no such thing as "real hip-hop". Trap is another subgenre of hip-hop, just like gangsta rap, conscious rap and what have you. Classifying between "real" and "fake" music is hurting even more the genre rather than helping it
@Michaell Alexander I bet you listen to Hopsin
@@pietropiva1376Nobody is gatekeeping anything.
She's so beautiful
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is literally the album that inspired me to follow my dream creating music for a living. It's first album I ever bought (both digitally AND on CD), and the only album I have listened to from BEGINNING to END and never get tired of it. I've personally never felt that much of a connection to any artist or entertainer EVER, and I've never understood how or why people cry over celebrities (people they don't even know or have any real life connection to), but now I do. Ms. Lauryn Hill's legacy will forever be remembered and she will always have a place in my heart💯🙏❤❤❤
I don’t think there is an album better than this one especially lyrically. You have to listen to the lyrics to really understand and feel what she’s talking about. So grateful for lauryn and all that she has contributed to music!
Broke with expensive taste by Azealia banks
Title had me scared for a second I thought we lost our queen
more like "while singing and rapping badly is popular today" lauryn hill actually still sings and raps well.
The miseducation album blew my mind and heart all the way out! Still one of the best albums ever made!
the miseducation of lauryn hill is the greatest hip-hop/rap female album of all time. She ushered in so many trends in R&B and hip hop for today than any other album by any female MC have done.
Carlos' guitar on "To Zion" is, to this day, a top-tier hip-hop melody
This album is a masterpiece
That album was definitely the sound track of my college life. Because of Lauren, I went natural and never looked back
What does going natural mean? I’m curious

The Miseducation is one of few albums I listened to and loved from beginning to end.
One of the few albums that made me shed a tear and shed some light on LOVE. Love this album!
I still got her CD, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" a true gem of black music, where pure Soul, Hip-Hop, Funk, Reggae and R&B are displayed. How I would like her to one day release the second part of this wonderful and legendary album. IMHO!
I love Lauryn and that album so much!
We waited for more.... Thank goodness we have this timeless classic.
it still stands as a great great body of work. What i remember were albums growing up

My n. 1 fav singer and rapper of all time💯
This album really changed the way I view nd listen to music in many ways. Such a masterpiece of an album. Definitely in my top 15 albums of all time for now only cuz I have so much more music to listen to, so it could end up in my top 10 albums oat eventually. I wish Lauryn had released more albums, but at least she ended off her music run in the best way possible nd her music is still being sampled very often.
