Every morning on Power 99 the Dj would play "Killing them Softly" by the Fugess, "Renee" by the Lost Boys, "Ain't No Nigga" by Jay-Z and Foxxy, and "If I ruled the world" by Nas! That was the PEAK OF EAST COAST DOMINANCE. This was on mainstream radio! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ERA TO BE ALIVE!

    The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is a miracle album. It’s what you’d imagine can be created with enough time and probabilities… it’s a collective of the right people and the right time, which I imagine is particularly special in its own right.
    As selfish as it sounds, I hope that there is a future where Lauryn can burden herself by pursuing vocal perfection again (see unplugged album) and finding industry experts in their respective disciplines to bring those brilliant sounds.
    You did a great job deconstructing this album. This was greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    RESPECT SIR.
    Truly appreciate your purist journalistic approach when creating your content. You DO YOUR RESEARCH. You incorporate a depth of history, little known stories and theory. I consider myself somewhat a musical historian. I learn something every time I view one of your videos. Also your breakdowns are ridiculous. From the originals, interpolations, samples, chord structures and melodies. It's education and edutainment. As a working musician and dj. I love the way you incorporate that aspect as well. From changing pitch and tempo to scratching. To recreating and reconstructing tracks. To layering live bass and other instrumentation over tracks. You present the view of a writer, composer, arranger, musician, dj and artist. Your labor is appreciated. So I say once again, RESPECT SIR.

    As per usual another awesome video where I learned a lot.
    This album is still probably my top album from a female MC (and yes, I realize lumping Lauryn in with artists like Eve or Missy Elliot is sort of missing the point as her music is so diverse that calling her an MC feels like it ignores that she’s a damn good singer with soul, r&b, reggae, and even a little pop in her influences) and while I knew a lot of this album was her breakup with Wyclef (most obviously Ex Factor, although I think it influenced several other songs in more subtle ways) and her being pregnant with her first child (To Zion) I had no idea her kid was Bob Marley’s grandson. I feel like part of her decision to pull back from the spotlight was to give her son a chance to grow up and just be a kid and not have to deal with all the stuff that goes along with having a super famous mom who is touring or recording constantly.
    I don’t have a bigger point here, just really wanted to say that I love that you talked about this absolute monster of an album (along w the Roots Things Fall Apart and Black Star’s debut, probably in my top 3 90s hip hop albums) and gave us a little more of an insider’s look into how the record came to be.

    • @chloemchll3774
      @chloemchll3774 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's great that she's back doing music again. I remember when she kind of went off the rails and the biggest problem with Ms Hill his there's just not enough stuff to listen to. My only wish is that she could have only made four or five more records so that I could have a whole catalog to listen to rather than one fugees and one solo. There's a few singles out there and a collection of odds and ends but she really didn't do a lot of recording. Definitely love what she did do just wish there was more.😊

      This is an amazing album! I'm glad you touched on how the album was made and credited. If you'd like to hear a really interesting take, look up Robert Glaspers radio interview on her.. ooof! He definitely doesn't hold back(skip to 27min point of his radio interview, its on TH-cam) it's a funny story too. But getting back to the Album when it comes down to it, it's her album and it's a legendary & beautiful work!

      Like D'Angelo, she has recorded a ton of stuff that she's sitting on. She has her reasons as to why she hasn't released much of it. Her peace of mind and contentment outside of the expectations of others is priority. It would be nice to have another studio album if she is compelled to release one.

    I absolutely ❤ Lauryn Hill and her music!!! We need to hear another Lauryn Hill album. We also need another Fugee album.
    I think Lauryn Hill would absolutely body a remake of Ginger Williams's 'Tenderness'.

    Bird sound effect you mentioned also reminds me of Nas is Like... I wonder if Ex-Factor was floating around in Premier's head when he put that beat together?
