Huge Glasper fan, I've been to several of his concerts. I can attest to his willingness to play for the love of it. I went to see him around the time the Experiment was formed. My wife, sister-in=law, and brother went to the World Cafe Live in Philly by U City. We paid at most $20 to see the Experiment play, what I thought was going to be at most 30-45 minutes of songs. On a Thursday night. Bilal stopped by to do vocals. We got there at 8 p.m. We left at 11 p.m. because everyone had to go to work in the morning. But rest assured they were STILL KILLING IT as we walked out the door. Again on a Thursday night. For 3+ hours. I'm thinking it had to be at least 4-5 hours if we could have stayed. It was amazing.
First time seeing this show, so happy to hear Talib presenting on this type of platform, ... great interview, always a pleasure to hear Robert spill the history ...
Would be super dope to see a Robert Glasper playlist of all of his hip-hop collabs! 🙌🏽 Anyways, incredible episode as always y’all! You guys always have some very dope guests on the show 💯💯💯
I don't listen to much of the music mentioned so this interview put me on to so many songs, basically a whole genre. Real deep interview regardless of the fact I'm coming from the blind. The rapport, the interest, the depth; this was nice to watch.
I was at the festival that he mentioned where Phonte invited him on stage. It was the One Music Fest back when it was still at Piedmont Park. It was 2011 and I'd never heard of Glasper. He got on stage with The Foreign Exchange and the rest of the musicians were in awe of him. At that point, i was like "I've gotta look this guy up". Black Radio came out a few months later and I was hooked.
Thank God for this interview which made this comment from Money possible.. Thank God for search engines which made me search for " Teen Spirit cover from Glass" And thank god I came upon one of the best pieces I've Listened to so far this year. And now I'm listening to In my Element. God is great.
Mr. Kweli, I've been a fan of your music since the first time I heard Black Starr, and Ms. Hill. I learn something every time I listen you and your guests. Keep it up!
Best episode ever - and loving his top Jazz samples list, but he need to add Stan Getz/ Luiz Bonfia w/ Maria Toledo- Saudade Vem Correndo (Runnin by The Pharcyde).
Talib caped way too much for Lauryn Hill for my taste. Glasper is a hero for speaking up for those musicians that can't speak for themselves that she disrespected for 20 years . No amount of achievement, accomplishment, talent or genius gives a person the right to shit on people with that extreme level of disrespect. And that "The rights of the performer to be unprofessional" That makes zero sense. So hill has the right to shit on musicians and her fans e.g. turn up 3 hours late then give a shitty performance. Nah not feeling that. If she has the right to be unprofessional, then people have the "RIGHT" to react to her unprofessionalism, and call it out anyway they deem fit to which Glasper quite rightly did.
Yeah I spent my hard money to see her. She was 3 1/2 hrs late , did not come out with Nas for with “Rule the World”. Then her music arrangement was horrible. She didn’t even apologize, blamed it on someone else. Talked to my cousin who saw her in the next city, same issue.
@@blackylocsShe's garbage. Damn her talenr, her bad behavior over shadows that and I won't accept that. Some fans will overlook that and make excuses and still support, their choice. I'm personally done with her, esp after that latest comment she made at that concert. DONE! 🤨
The Miss Hill segment was deep. Mr. Robert Glasper was honest. I was wondering about that whenever I would see her on stage why she treats the muscians like that. I mean on stage she never looks relaxed on stage. The last critic I heard about her was her live gig out here in Cologne.
How bad could she be if he wanted to work for her? Women are always considered difficult when we're straight forward or in charge and refused to allow others to mistreat our business, our brand.
@@julemahoward Nothing to do with gender here, based on what Glasper and many other musicians have said she lacks respect and professionalism. Its not right.
Thanks for Robert Glasper. You can tell they r friends. He's so free. Lauryn Hill came to South Africa in Feb for her Miseducation Tour. That was her best performance to date..literally
One of the best interviews I have seen.. I was at that Robert GLASPER's show in Brooklyn College circa (2016) where Mac Miller was called upon stage and freestyled on top of the head (was not the best at it, but still a treat to see him) I cannot believe that was Robert's last in-person encounter with him..
Wyclef said the same thing around when they broke up from Fugees. He said she can't produce. But I still consider her the best vocalist and lyricist ever.
@@ndujamz lol Lauryn Hill said wyclef can't make hits anymore so she can't trust him when the Fugees broke up in 2006. . (this was before "hips don't lie")
I love Kweli and Robert Glasper. Thanks to YT recommendations i'm just hearing about this show. Im really confused as to why the "cohost" does not have a seat at the table?
Huge fan of Kweli's music and how he talks to people on this show, I definitely like what Jasmine brings to the table too. I'm glad he brought this up, though because I remember reading that article and thinking "what the entire fuck?!". Nobody should feel like they owe fans so much that they have to sell out or embody who the fans want them to be, but in that article I felt like he went beyond defending that. Everyone reserves the right to be whoever they want to be, but fans aren't wrong for wanting the respect of an artist they are paying to see. It almost felt like he was saying "if an artist gives you their ass to kiss, you paying to attend their show shouldn't spare you from that". I think that's miles past saying "just because you pay, that doesn't make an artist your puppet". THAT, to me, would've been a reasonable statement. I still remember the Episode where Godfrey became a little dismissive towards Jasmine when she kind of disagreed with him. Talib smoothed shit out WITHOUT acting as if she was some kid and he was coming to the rescue AND without saying Godfrey was the bad guy. That was great to see. So I'm still unsure what made him go so hard defending Lauryn, when people were upset with her for feeling slighted.
I’m so happy i found this man(Robert Glasper) I’ve been pushing him since 2011 and i haven’t seen him enough 😝 but i definitely saw him at the Blue note🤴🏾🥰😘😎

For those that don’t know, Travis Scott and Robert Glasper attended the same high school....Robert left and attended the same school that produced Beyoncé and Bryan-Michael Cox
Absolutely AWESOME video. One note, though. I feel that for ANY musician, church is required, even if you're just a ringer and have no belief in God. I went to the same high school as Robert (High School for Performing and Visual Arts), and I was a trumpet player in the jazz band. But church choir made me a classically trained soprano. It's not about religion, necessarily, but about practice. Where else are you going to practice your art once, usually twice a week for years on end?
😆😅😂🤣 laughed loudly when they said bout mumble rap. Started naming everyone r&b who mumbled couldn't undastand a damn word they was sayin. Example: Anita Baker spot on.
I’m rewatching this 3 years later and it’s funny how desperately Talib was trying to defend “Ms.” Lauryn. Just came from another vid with James Poyser discussing a similar situation. He’s had his hand in countless tracks for her; and NO CREDIT to his name. She’s still a legend in my eyes. But it’s just unfortunate. If ONLY she ran her business clean.
Great interview with the Htown legend, but being from the city, I have to say Minnie Ripperton is not from Houston. I think she's from Chicago. Joe Sample is definitely from Houston though. Again great interview with Glasper.
A lot of celebrity managers will say this to people without the artist knowing. They’ve done this to Mariah Carey as well. It’s not at the request of the artist. Robert spreads gossip and hearsay. He doesn’t know a damn thang. He’s just mad Lauryn didn’t kiss his ass, clout chasing ass nigga.
