Hello everyone! Another video from me on this channel. I know, I don't make them as often lately so I wanted to record something very interesting. Fortunately, just a few days ago a new TMNT game was released and since I really like old TMNT beat'em ups (especially The Manhattan Project) I just couldn't ignore this one. Just a few words about the video and then I will write some of my thoughts about the game. All bosses are defeated without taking any damage, playing as Splinter in story mode. I did not use taunts so that I had to actually earn super attacks instead of just spamming them. Also, I never triggered radical mode that greatly raises damage you deal for a short while. This is actually not done for the sake of challenge and mostly because it is not as useful in any perfect runs here and it is much better to just use 3 supper attacks for dealing damage that wasting them for some buff that you might not get a chance to actually use fully. So, what do I think about this game... I really want to say only good things about it. It is fun to play, it actually feels like old TMNT games (Turtles in Time being the closest), there are many nods to classic games we know, sprites and animations are beautifully done and are a pleasure to look at... And, unfortunately, there are big problems that I can't ignore. The biggest ones being overall balance and boss design. Especially the boss design. Almost every one of the boss fights seems to lack any balance and looks like it was made for spamming super attacks or few players attacking the boss without any thought about avoiding his attacks. As soon as I tried to actually learn them I found that in most cases everything is rigged against you to the point that you have little hope of avoiding damage and have to just resort to spamming. It will be faster and there is basically no point or interest in learning such fights. Every boss has very fast counter attacks which trigger during you combos and which will hit you. Reflexes won't really help you until you watch the animation many times and remember it or you will just start to play very carefully dashing away after every few hits. Almost every boss has lesser enemies in more than necessary quantities aiding them and some of the bosses are paired. One of the worst examples of it is Captain Zorax: should you let him to create his force field and start summoning enemies you will not be able to do anything aside from button mashing and hoping that you will defeat him faster than he kills you. There are quite a few cases of bad hitboxes despite people on Steam forums furiously disagreeing with this every time it is mentioned. For example, Chrome Dome's fist can hit you even if you are to the side of it and your sprite never overlaps with it. Grenade or missile explosions have lingering hitbox after flames have disappeared and also can damage you if you are to the side of affected area while not touching the flames. I still, don't understang how Wingnut's dash attack works, where its hitbox is and how the heck I did not take damage in that fight. The flames that final boss shoots at you can be hard to dodge because their sprite makes it hard to judge if you will touch any of them or not. This is just to name a few. So, overall the game would really benefit from heavy rebalancing and fixing. Yes, I know, my rant may look like I really hate this game but I assure you it is not so. Overall, I really liked it and it was fun to play. I am somewhat disappointed, though. It has potential to be even better than old TMNT games but fails in ways that shouldn't have even been a case.
It honestly looked like you were playing way too cautious. There's plenty of points with bosses that you can get away with full combos, usually when a gun comes or something is thrown out (Rocksteady grenades') or they're doing a big charge swing (Dirtbag, attack from back like with foot axe troops), you can also get away with a full combo if the start of the combo leads to a knock down and to be safe, doing a immediate dodge roll right after the 4th hit. With the dodge roll I've noticed it's almost the opposite of a Monster Hunter evade roll, with the turtles the i-frames seem to be in the middle of the roll instead of the start. Also on the Chrome Dome fight, you can grab throw foot at him while he is in screen mode to end it faster and do small damage.
To be honest I was interested in the fights against the car and sky chase for the no damage run, I totally agree with Shredder flames, it's hard to judge and jump, probably I will never get the challenge because of that lol. And I think that this game was designed to be more casual friendly.
@@jaggerguth4391 Yeah, so fill me in, he was able to resist the rattening in the 2012 TMNT after a while. But can Rat King just like, easily take out Splinter? I'm assuming that Splinter's mental training gives him some resistance but I genuinely can't find anything about it.
Loved that reference in the final boss' stage. The clock in the background is showing the "3:00 am", a reference to the name of the first stage in "TMNT Turtes in Time": Big Apple, 3 am.
@@Inferno65 not gonna lie, I opted for April over Splinter. All the times she'd been kidnapped as the lead-in to previous games, I figured she was due a shot at revenge.
@@MidoseitoAkage Part of it is that he's old and past his prime. The Turtles are better athletically, but Splinter has more experience and knows way more techniques. That's why the Turtles tend to do better against robot type enemies, but if they are up against other living opponents that have joints and pressure points even if their huge brutes like Leatherhead, Splinter can take them down.

My brothers and I had already played Turtles in Time for years, so we figured when Chrome Dome went into the first-person view, and the foot soldiers stormed the area, that was our cue to toss them and pummel the boss. Love this game.
@@Dracattack this. The whole "You fell for my diversion!" line by Krang seems like it was all a wild goose chase in order to buy time to complete Krang's secret exoskeleton destroyer.
Like in "The Manhattan Project", Krang is a nuisance in this game as well, since his attack patterns here seem to mimic those from that particular game.
Actually, his attack patterns were much more complex in that game than they are in this game. He also lacks the mallet attack that he had in that game in this game.
Is there really any difference between the high speed weak characters vs the high damage slow characters? Cause from what I saw April is just as effecient at damage as the other characters
2 star power will destroy pink ninja for 1 dodge kick and 3 punches, 3 star - for 1 dodge kick and 2 punches. If you like to spam attack, better grab high speed. If you like hit-and-run dodge/jump attack - power (Raphael "Pure Super" (3 sec spin control) and Splinter "Dash Super" (boss hp destroyer) is MVP)
The worst: - How incredibly easy this game is (arcade + gnarly not even a challenge) - Bosses feel lacking (horrible reflexes and mechanics, for instance super shredder is a joke…) The best: - The amount of love put into this game is simply amazing! The animations are a dream come true. - High replayability factor It’s a solid 7/10
Yet another thoroughly enjoyable boss run ^^ Always a pleasure to see your videos ^^ PS. If you're still in a TMNT mood, any chances you'd take on the TMNT Rescue Palooza as well? It's a really awesome fangame that deserves more love and attention.
Looks like a very nice fangame in style of NES TMNT games (and it takes a lot from those too). I will definitely try it but I can not guarantee that I (or Shadowserg) will make a boss run very soon.
@@ArekTheDragon oh yeah, it's a really cool love letter to classic TMNT games, featuring almost all classic charas (even ones as obscure as Tora and Shogun). And no pressure, I realuze you're busy so wasn't expecting it doon or at all, but thought I'd recommend it ^^ PS. And speaking of recommendations, have you played Fight'N Rage by any chance? That's another beat 'em up with obvious classic inspirations that's well worth a try.
@@MidBoss666 Didn't play Fight'N Rage yet. It is on my very (VERY) long list which never really becomes any shorter. ^^ I'd really love to find time for every game that interests me. Also, I am not much of a beat'em up fan, to be honest. I do play them occasionally but platfromers and shmups are the genres that I really enjoy.
Impressive. To this day, (or at least, as of this post) I have never beaten any of these bosses without getting hit even ONCE. Well, except for the 3rd one, but I just got lucky.
Weren’t Groundchuck and Dirtbag comic book heroes in their own right, in another series by Eastman and Laird? I distinctly remember owning one of their issues.
No, they were not in another series and they actually began in the 1987 series, and, before then, as action figures in the 1987 TMNT series line, and, afterwards, as bosses in TMNT III/II: The Manhattan Project. They may have also been in the Archie Comics series as well, and they may have also been in Mighty Mutinamials. If you argue otherwise, then you must either be buying into that Mandela Effect crap or you are from another dimension/universe/Earth.
This looks a lot of fun (troll ending was quite fun) but I noticed the bosses do lack variety I. Their attacks, they have a few and then it’s sped up a bit when near critical. Still the combination feature looks amazing, also like the callback to older material. (Kinda wished they brought back the infamous underwater dam mission from the Nes, trying to defuse bombs admist an entire electric seaweed maze!
The statue of tyranny reminds me a lot of the same statue of liberty that you have to fight in the beginning stage of Mega man X5... Dat boss creep me out as a child and that this boss Creep me out as an adult lol.
Not one bit. If you were watching the cartoon with a little bit attention, you would've known that they are very weak (even though the Shredder was the one who taught them how to fight) and pacifistic. They were freaking dudes in distress in almost every episode they showed up. Heck, even in their debut episode they were just running from the turtles and were freezed without even trying to dodge the shot. Like ol'Leatherhead said they are just a "bunch of no-good possum pusses". Battletoads on the other hand are very mature, skilled fighters (considering the difficulty of their respective games, they are 10 time more powerful and violent than the turtles with their master) with lots of power, unique fighting techniques and absolutely brutal. So, you are very mistaken person. Just cause they are frogs (not toads) doesn't make them alike.
@@jeremiahnapier2516 , actually, the Battletoads came AFTER the TMNT and it was not a very good cartoon. Also, the last two Battletoads games were not that good. Oh, and the lady that voiced Bulma in the English dub of the Dragon Ball series voiced the Dark Queen, and she is also kind of evil, and I also think that she is ironically as guilty of sexual harassment as the person that she basically black balled from all sorts of acting guilds and unions.

Ahh, the pixelated childhood... When things were still okay... I wish more companies would make things like this unlike new progressive-preachy styles nobody wants. Buying it.

Some big companies of comics, movies and games are using said shield even when the thing is brand new as a way to explain their failure. They also like to claim that their movie or stuff is the first one to do something, which is clearly false. That actually did happen the first time that The Rat King was first introduced. Rat King Hypnotized Splinter and thus Splinter gave in and fought the turtles. That made alot of sense in that episode since The Rat King was more of a Piped Piper there than his comic book counterpart for Mirage Comics. Oh and in the Mirage Comics, he died but came back as a ghost. :0

It's a shame the boss balance is way outta wack (either chip at them slowly and get punished too easily or spam supers and kill them in like, 4 hits) because the spritework and concepts are top notch. Perhaps making it more clear when the boss shouldn't be hit and being a bit more lenient with how much invincibility they have would've helped. Still, glad this game looks to be successful. Shows that the world's still itchin for some toytles.
So the final boss is Apocalypse and then Akuma. Jokes aside, the bosses seem a bit slow and soft here, and the music direction doesn’t make them feel big. Just misses that rush of the original arcade equivalents.

So Streets of Rage 4 is better?
Well, there's always hope they'll release a balance patch.

Turtles in Time was one of the very first SNES games I rented and the echo of “Big Apple, 3 AM” is imprinted hard into a happy audio memory.

You playing as Master Splinter shows if he fought all the time in the original show it would've been under 20 episodes.
That's why you see more in action in the 2003 version, but still, he can get rekt like the turtles.

I love that the best games of TMNT have the graphic style of the '87 cartoon. Clear example that this is the best cartoon of TMNT.

Every TMNT fans waited so long for the new characters such as Splinter, Casey Jones and April O'Neil. And many of the bosses are so fun to challenge.
How does Casey eat pizza through his mask??

No, they were not in another series and they actually began in the 1987 series, and, before then, as action figures in the 1987 TMNT series line, and, afterwards, as bosses in TMNT III/II: The Manhattan Project. They may have also been in the Archie Comics series as well, and they may have also been in Mighty Mutinamials. If you argue otherwise, then you must either be buying into that Mandela Effect crap or you are from another dimension/universe/Earth.

I like how this game looks like turtles in time and the arcade game. Looks very fun to play for anyone who likes turtles games.
This looks a lot of fun (troll ending was quite fun) but I noticed the bosses do lack variety I. Their attacks, they have a few and then it’s sped up a bit when near critical. Still the combination feature looks amazing, also like the callback to older material.
(Kinda wished they brought back the infamous underwater dam mission from the Nes, trying to defuse bombs admist an entire electric seaweed maze!

The statue of tyranny reminds me a lot of the same statue of liberty that you have to fight in the beginning stage of Mega man X5... Dat boss creep me out as a child and that this boss Creep me out as an adult lol.

Not one bit. If you were watching the cartoon with a little bit attention, you would've known that they are very weak (even though the Shredder was the one who taught them how to fight) and pacifistic. They were freaking dudes in distress in almost every episode they showed up. Heck, even in their debut episode they were just running from the turtles and were freezed without even trying to dodge the shot. Like ol'Leatherhead said they are just a "bunch of no-good possum pusses".
Battletoads on the other hand are very mature, skilled fighters (considering the difficulty of their respective games, they are 10 time more powerful and violent than the turtles with their master) with lots of power, unique fighting techniques and absolutely brutal.
So, you are very mistaken person. Just cause they are frogs (not toads) doesn't make them alike.

Oh, and the lady that voiced Bulma in the English dub of the Dragon Ball series voiced the Dark Queen, and she is also kind of evil, and I also think that she is ironically as guilty of sexual harassment as the person that she basically black balled from all sorts of acting guilds and unions.

That actually did happen the first time that The Rat King was first introduced.
Rat King Hypnotized Splinter and thus Splinter gave in and fought the turtles. That made alot of sense in that episode since The Rat King was more of a Piped Piper there than his comic book counterpart for Mirage Comics.
Oh and in the Mirage Comics, he died but came back as a ghost. :0

It's a shame the boss balance is way outta wack (either chip at them slowly and get punished too easily or spam supers and kill them in like, 4 hits) because the spritework and concepts are top notch. Perhaps making it more clear when the boss shouldn't be hit and being a bit more lenient with how much invincibility they have would've helped.
Still, glad this game looks to be successful. Shows that the world's still itchin for some toytles.
