C Olsen well, his tone was amazing throughout but of course he started missing notes. (Duh playing double speed) and no musicality whatsoever, there is a good reason tempo indications exist, lol! Excellent Lindsey Sterling Shosta though, oh yeah and Paganini "I haven't played this in a while" *proceeds to play the passage perfectly*
Do, a deer, a female deer... Ray, *a Taiwanese-Australian violinist, the first prize winner of the 2008 International Menuhin Competition, 2009 Queen Elisabeth competition, 2010 Awesome Violin Player, 2011 Epic Soloist, 2012 Amazing Violinist.*
I'm losing all my violin cred...I totally didn't know Ray is Australian. It's really awesome though seeing a totally dedicated touring virtuoso soloist (no offence of course to Eddie and Brett they are fantastic violinists) but seeing this...(damn, poor Ray!!) It's just too funny. Also, ❤️2set for promoting classical music. Keep up the good work. One more thing, Eddie, you should occasionally give a shout out to your old channel as you are an extremely gifted violin teacher for someone so young, and many of your violinist fans would benefit from some of your (real) long form teaching vids!!! Good job guys!
Ling Ling does this perfectly every single day. That's why it's called the Ling Ling workout, although Do, Ling Ling, Mi doesn't quite feel the same. Ray wishes he could play like Ling Ling.
Coming back here in preparation for Brett's Mendelssohn with SSO. Ray is a delight, I hope he is a guest in another video soon, the recent one with guessing pieces was hilarious.
I would pay to watch that without them making jokes- if they make a joke they have to play a Paganini on viola and every mistake they make they have to spend a minute lauding the viola
Ray seems like such a grounded, straight up nice guy! There is this old fusty stigma surrounding solo violinists that they are arrogant and very self absorbed, as part of both the supposed culture of classical orchestra/string sections and part of the individuality that comes with practicing half your life for solo performances in densely populated orchestras. And Ray really breaks that poorly aged stigma clean in half. And the same goes with every soloist that I've seen on TwoSet as well. Maybe it is in general? That TwoSet are absolutely great at grinding away the notion of that arrogance stigma in all of classical music and orchestra settings. All work, no play. The overly serious idea about music being right or wrong or carry more weight and stuff like that. Here I just feel like these guys just love classical music, and take the mick out of themselves and others with ling ling workouts and just talking about what they love. It's just such a great bridge for us "plebs" that like classical music, I feel welcome with TwoSet. (And Ray too) So thanks!
The more i see Ray with twoset, the more it feels like he should be the third member. Hes got the energy, the humor, the excitement for the violin, the love of the music and hes constantly outreaching to his fans worldwide. We may never see another Ray Chen in this life, guys. Give him an honorary chair with two set. I can also set up an online petition if that helps :)
Actually there are even older videos of them together. Their friendship is older than you think, they grew up in the same city and have known each other for a very long time, before TwoSet was even created. :-)
I actually saw Ray in a concert at the Enescu Festival in 2019, and he did an amazing performance, he has great talent and charisma...the public called him twice at the end of the concert, never wanting to let him go...
You guys have inspired me to really enjoy the violin. Never thought that would ever happen EVER... Laughed so much too. Really needed that. Bless you all.
Is it just me or some of these challenges are way harder than those with Hilary Hahn? Or maybe that's bc Hilary is such a god that makes every challenge looks way easier...
On Tube Video I saw Ray reacting to a broken string in the middle of a concert - he's such a great guy and his smile is adorable 😊 love your colaborations most

You guys are hilarious! I was in stitches every time someone does the ling ling workout! This would be a great musicians party game!!! It’s a good challenge too as it keeps us musicians thinking on our feet, ready for anything!!!
You can tell Ray has a really competitive personality. I guess if he had more time, he'd just practice until he aced those challenges. Just not getting it on point seems to bug him so much, I can see how he got up to this level.
Good violinist are so precise with body movements it looks robotic, and when Ray played the piece 2x speed it looks like it was just sped up, great skill!!

Best comment by far
Ray has some serious case of violin face going on there. I feel as though his eyes and teeth are going to pop out like BOO!
Isagail relatable tho
You can open bottles with his eyebrows. Anyway, he’s a genious and soo talented.

When Ray played the Paganini part Brett was seriously shocked
Kierley Cross Ray Chen needed a moment of dignity.
He's Ling Lings apprentice
