The only real disagreement I have, ironically enough, isn't about spiderman 3. I think Alfred Molina did a FANTASTIC job playing Doc Ock, especially on the "father figure to Peter" front at the start.
I recently heard a good discussion on how the "emo" peter was not an accidental cringe fest. It was a cringe fist but entirely on purpose in the sense that to him that was the ideal perfect version of a cool person. No one else besides him thought it was cool but he doesn't understand that in the same way.
It was really obviously not accidental because in universe everyone finds it just weird. Tbh, my biggest problem with the Raimi films is that I find Tobey's Peter unintentionally creepy and unlikeable, but Bully Maguire plays up the awkward creep factor to create an entertaining bad guy.
Actually, Harry's amnesia was taken straight from the comics where the real Green Goblin aka Norman Osborn was the one who actually got amnesia. He regained his memory after watching a record of Spiderman fighting Green Goblin.
@@anedsalhi9542 Agree. Its supposed to be a whole different arc, or whole different movie actually. They shouldve just let Harry go all Goblin the entire movie
I randomly dance and sing in public all the time, and even though I get weird looks from people, i know deep down some of them wishes to be as careless as me at least once in life.
In the comics, Harry was more menacing and psychotic than Norman could ever be. He really strikes Peter at his heart, playing with his emotions while simultaneously torturing Peter both physically and mentally
No not really, not at all. He's kind of a straight up tragic villain stuck between needing to be like his dad and not actually wanting to be like his dad, and so blames Spider-man for framing Norman and murdering him and Gwen. Like he's more subtle, in that he fucks with Peter by sending him ominous empty boxes and just flying around him cheerfully knowing Peter can't attack him out of his suit, but like Norman kills people a lot. Ok yes, there was the LMD parents plan which was kind of fucked up and honestly ruined the subtlety thing going on, but that's still tame compared to Norman doing the Clone Saga and killing Peter and MJ's baby.
@@crustycrumpetkaiser6734Adaptations change him a lot but 616 is one continuity. When he has his tenure as the Goblin he does get psychological, though still played as a tragic villain since he's having his own breakdown there. However on Norman's return he does a lot lot lot worse and is a lot more sadistic. There are probably a couple of AU comics with a less sympathetic Harry but not major series. Ok fine there was the Kindred thing but that same story had him do it under the influence of Mephisto after Norman sold his soul so that can join Sins Past in one big "didn't happen" bin as far as I'm concerned.
The funny thing about the Venom symbiote is that it's not naturally evil, it's just REALLY impressionable. So yeah when the film starts off with Peter getting a bit to egotistical the symbiote laches onto that and heightens it.
@@D33pgr333n Wich is why you need to work together with the symbiote. It isn't a suit of power armor like the Mark V suit, it's a living organism your bonding and learning with.
I'm convinced that in the scene when Harry disappears he just lays down in the seat when the truck passes. You can even see the guy sitting behind harry at the table look at him when the truck passes.
Sam remi wasn't written into a corner by himself, he was written into a corner by the Studio. Sony wanted Venom, but Remi wanted to hold that off for another movie and focus on Harry and sandman (or the vulture), but Sony said "no you're putting Venom in now and maybe we'll talk about a 4th". This was before the MCU so anything beyond a trilogy was considered risky, and yet Sony wanted that easily marketable Venom merch in Stores. Remi hated this and resented Venom being in the movie to at least some degree. this is what the movie is cobbled together because it's 2 movies worth of plot in one.
Young Dab-A-Roosa I don’t think people are upset that it’s a bad movie. I think that they’re upset that it’s an okay movie. I adore it, but following up Spider-Man 2 which, barring Into the Spiderverse, is considered the best Spider-Man movie, it kind of falls flat.
@@thecraigadile1494 i think that spiderman 2 is highly overrated and is not that good, the mcu one is also great but not the one people were hoping for although spiderman far from home is better and is at no 2 on my list after spiderverse
uday singh I always find it hard to judge. Every S-M movie can change on my list depending on my mood, barring Spiderverse which is no.1, though I haven’t seen Far From Home yet.
Spider-Man 3 wasn't supposed to have Venom in it, and consequently Sandman. It was the studio who forced Sam Raimi to put Venom in the movie, and he had to adjust his script, which initially had Harry as the only villain. It is honestly impressive that the movie did not turn out far worse and still had good moments and a good arc for Peter's character
No Raimi actually chose Sandman as the main antagonist of this movie. As for Harry, he said that he would not follow his father's footsteps but be instead "somewhere between".
I think Sandman should've just died. It would show how Peter's actions have consequences, and it would've made the film less overstuffed. It also wouldn't have a seen of Peter forgiving a murderer. Even though he didn't mean to shoot Uncle Ben, he was still a criminal.
"This movie has many problems but emo Peter is not one of them." Wow. After hearing SO MANY jump on the this-movie-is-bad-because-of-the-dance-scene bandwagon it's so good to finally hear somebody say that. (Genuinely like spider man 3 and the whole "original" live action spider man 3 trilogy.)
I'm glad people can laugh at these movies. I just can't seperate the enjoyable hokey-ness from the fact that this these movies were originally made to be taken kind of seriously. The fact that it was INTENDED to be our downtrodden, lovable Spider-Man that DOES make mistakes but is still good at heart just makes me sad... because they're just a straight-up joke. And they've aged like cheap cheese.
I find it absurdly difficult to believe that everyone dislikes or hate Spiderman 3 as much as they claim. To me it's just a bandwagon of people with no opinion of their own, what they do is read comments online and let someone else's comments become their own opinion. Because all their opinions are the same you would've thought they were copy & paste bots or something it's ridiculous. Spiderman 3 came out in 2007. Nobody other than Raimi in 2007 could've done better. It was a good movie.
Young Dab-A-Roosa To be quite honest, whenever I watch Spider-Man 3 I find the “Peter strutting down the street” and the “dance” scenes just too cringy to watch. Not because it’s not got a sense of “you could watch this ironically and love it because of the cringe” but because I find people with such a huge ego and bountiful self obsession absolutely and utterly repulsive. When I see Toby McGuire’s face in those scenes I just undoubtedly hate him. I hate him instantly because he’s become an inane narcissist. The one thing I hate the most in a person.
@@CielPhantomhive-qk3ee Dude it's just a movie chill... that scene is meant for comedic purposes, there's literally a million scenes in other movies with way worst cringe than Peter dancing down the street. I can never believe anything you people say about Spiderman 3 because all of your excuses for disliking it are petty. So you mean to tell me that if you see anyone randomly dancing in public minding their own business your gonna hate him and consider him a narcissist???? Lol boy oh boy smh...
The thing is, and mind you this is just my opinion, the symbiote shouldn't make you want to be cool. It should feed on and increase your darker feelings. Now, if Peter strutting in the street and being real cocky with women was a way of overcompensating because Mary Jane left him, that'd be better, since most of the other scenes of that montage could be seen as him giving into the symbiote's sway, but... Him being all goofy and giggly doesn't get that across and is really dumb, which culminates into the god awful dance on Mary Jane's workplace and adds to the mood whiplash when he confronts her and the church scene afterwards.
@@Jetsiuc you could say that him turning so cocky was the extent of his darker feelings. I know that needs can end up holding grudges against people but I don't think Peter would be that kind of person both cuz of him being a superhero and since he's following uncle Ben's advice.
24:40 i feel like this isnt a coincidence at all. Thr symbiote was dormant because it didnt feel any hatred until Peter found out about how Uncle Ben died. I dont know how the Symbiote works in the comics but it felt like it grew stronger from hatred in this movie. Which is why it influenced Peter, but didnt turn him into a full on murder machine like with Eddie who was just pure hatred by that point. Unfortunately the movie had to be PG13 so Raime couldn't give him the crazy violent scenes he so desperately needed.
Sam Raimi's movies are great to me BECAUSE they're not afraid to be dumb. Classic comics were dumb. Raimi was just embracing what a good superhero story was.
they weren't just dumb though... even the objectively worst one... Raimi's writing and his team put a lot of effort into the theme of forgiveness in SM3... SM1 does a lot of great things with it but the 2nd one is where SM2 still is the greatest superhero movie to date
thats why i like the Lego Batman movie, ino the best batman movie and the most true to his character, it was like the spider-verse of batman movies (in tone and loyalty to the media)
Tbh, considering how many plot lines they were trying to juggle at once, it’s amazing that they still managed to make a somewhat coherent movie out of it all.
I actually looked up why mj was captured at the end of Spider-Man 3 and here is what I found. “ Kirsten Dunst only agreed to reprise her role in the third film on the condition that Mary Jane would not end up as the Damsel in Distress. Executives agreed. MJ was originally going to have a more proactive role in the film's climax (Gwen was going to be the damsel while MJ would be the one to talk Harry into helping and forgiving Peter; her lines from this scene remained in the trailer). When the plans changed, they made sure MJ was an Action Survivor during this particular distress as means of making it up to an upset Dunst. Throwing a cinderblock at Venom was thrown in, they let her jump and swing on hanging webs herself before needing to ultimately get saved, and any of MJ's screams during the scene (Peter's too, for that matter) were recycled audio. On the audio commentary, Raimi tells a rough story of coming to the process that in order to finish the movie on time, they had to put MJ in danger, which not only angered himself for reneging on his promise to Dunst before production started that he wouldn't, but that summoning the courage to tell her was one of the hardest things he's ever done in his long time in the business.”
I really felt bad to Sam Raimi. He shouldered all the hate of this film despite all his adjustment due to the force of studio. Specially for putting Venom into the film. Sony literally threw Sam Raimi's years of work. I'm rooting for him to nail the "Multiverse of Madness" film. The Novel somehow make this third installment not so bad.
@@jayalcomendas4230 this movie would of been prolly like great movie if Sony just shut the fuck up. I might be the only one but I’ve never actually liked venom as a Spider-Man villain. And the idea of it just being sandman and Harry as the villain in the movie would of been great.
@@evanbobrowich1325 As soon as Sony forced Raimi to add Venom to the script, the future of his trilogy had been already decided. He said yes, the film turned into a mess of pacing; the bad reviews caused the franchise to be rebooted. Had he said no, Spider-Man 3 probably wouldn't have happened and Sony would've... rebooted the franchise. And THIS is why working for a big corporation that owns IPs is usually a bad idea.
The butler telling Harry that his father was killed by the glider makes sense because Norman’s last words were “Peter, don’t tell Harry.” So it makes sense people close to Harry kept this a secrete until it was absolutely necessary for him to understand what really happened.
But like. How would the Butler know that that’s what Norman said? Did Peter tell him? Were there cameras installed or something?? I like this idea conceptually, but it falls apart if you think about the implications.
I agree and Harry was sure about it because he probably had deep inside him the memory in which Peter during the first fight said, "He tried to kill me but he killed himself."
That distorted voice over for the butler was the funniest thing ever. “WHAT?!! HOW DID HARRY NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS?!! DID THEY NOT DO AN AUTOPSY?!!”😂so funny
The line is doubly bad, as spider man could have easily have grabbed the glider and stabbed him with it. Just because the wounds came from something of his doesn’t mean he did it to himself. Maybe kinda like when Harry himself throws the grenade at Peter and Peter uses it to wound Harry.......
i think it's because harry doesn't knowing well his father was green goblin and the butler just try to hidden it from harry and tell the truth after harry found his father laboratorium.
And harry think peter stab his father. What make me feel bad about spiderman 3, its there's no scene where peter try to explain to harry about the truth about norman dies.
Spider-man 3 was actually a much more focused film than most films now. There's a proper focus on Peter's character arc and the theme of the movie is clear as day- Revenge.
@@hasankaiser4563all the raimi's spidey films have character arcs and definitely the best themes when it comes to spiderman in live action... the 2nd is obviously Andrew although you can argue that Andrew is better as TASM1 is actually great with what it does like how Peters abandonment issues are because of his parents and therefore felt lonely and isn't until when he saved that kid and brought him back to his father that he himself had let go of with no choice thus realised that he was never alone as Aunt May and Uncle Ben were always there for him despite not being perfect at all... this video goes in way more detail so i heavily recommend that you should watch it "The Amazing Spider-Man was NEVER Bad" - th-cam.com/video/_Z0TWOUc1_Q/w-d-xo.html
Despite what critics and some people say, I love Spider Man 3, but Spider Man 2 was the best. Doc Ock was an awesome villain. Willem Dafoe was absolutely brilliant as well. J.K. Simmons was definitely the best thing to come out of the Raimi trilogy.
Did you know that Sony forced Rami to add more villains, he wanted this movie to be the best but Sony was like “Either put more villains or give us the movie to reboot.” Rami was so fed up he basically felt just finished with the movie.
That doesn't fix the final work. For example in FFH there was supposed to be a scene where Peter had to sell all his Star Wars merchandise to go on the trip to Europe. Does this scene existing changes how Peter doesn't has too much financial problems like in the comics in the final work? No, because it isn't in the final work. Something that happened or was supposed to happen can explain something, but what remains of it is what matters.
To be fair, the Osborns are constantly getting amnesia in the comics but it was stupid contrivances that the writers kept writing themselves into, too lol
"Kirsten Dunst agreed to do the third film with the condition that Mary Jane did not serve as a damsel in distress in the third act. This was agreed upon by executives and Sam Raimi; originally the climax involved Eddie Brock kidnapping Gwen Stacy and holding her hostage, as he was sure that Peter was in love with Gwen. Mary Jane still played a big part in the climax with her most notable cut scene: Mary Jane went to Harry and made a passionate speech about forgiveness, prompting him to go and help Peter. Nice try, Schaffrillas. I hit my head so hard I got amnesia and forgot your quote, but then I looked in the mirror and saw William Defoe AND REMEMBERED YOUR RUSE!!!
Pretty sure you mean Dumbledore, as you are basing this joke from the "Your a wizard Harry" from Harry Potter. And the wizard in it wasn't Gandalf , it was Dumbledore. Also it was Hagrad that originally said the quote in Harry Potter not Dumbledore.
I had never actually watched the Raimi trilogy until LAST WEEK to prepare for No Way Home. And I had the best time watching Spider Man 3 out of the three. This is mainly because I loved commentating my SHEER ANGER about Bully Maguire at my fiancé, who had already seen the movies but wanted to see my reactions to the whole trilogy. Harry was amazing for the entire trilogy and Norman's Green Goblin is now one of my favourite villains of all time in any media. Jazz scene in SP3 was incredible and I threw a sofa cushion at the TV when Bully Maguire hit Mary Jane and I almost knocked over and destroyed my TV BUT IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT.
I also love the fact that Raimi's Spiderman trilogy resembles few characteristics of the Reeve's Superman trilogy. Superman 1/Spiderman 1: Hero's origin story Superman 2/Spiderman 2: Hero loosing power and get it back again! also being the best entrance of the trilogy Superman 3/Spiderman 3: Hero become evil and accidentally become hero we know again! Raimi did fantastic job updating these themes for 2000's in his Spiderman trilogy.
I feel like Rami knew that this was gonna get shit on on release but people would genuinely love it years later, no one could film the emo dance or act in it without knowing 100% that it was a piss take, Rami knew perfectly what he was doing with this trilogy, it has genuinely amazing emotional moments particularity in 1 and 2 but then it goes full on dumb comic book shit, its like he applied the Evil Dead mentality to these films, except balancing horror with hilarity its genuine character with the absurd comic books shit, they have massive problems across all 3 at times, but still, they're still so much fun and pull off what they we're meant to
One reason I always love the Sam Raimi's trilogy. Other than nostalgia, they all just have something really special about them. The new series of films...... isn't that fun unfortunately and I could never get into them. Into the Spiderverse tho managed to somewhat capture that little bit of Raimi's style and I like that show a lot. Otherwise, I just can't remember much for the new films
25:47 Funny thing is that Sam Raimi actually wanted Venom's birth to be the ending of the movie and have it as a cliffhanger for Spider-Man 4, but Sony and Topher Grace didn't like the idea
To me, Spider Man 2 is a masterpiece, I really love how Raimi writes drama and watching a superhero believably struggle with poverty was so compelling, I truly think it was a good and solid movie.
not only with that, but with his own view of hero. okay, it was kinda strange that peter lost his powers, but he learns that he cant solve everything like he tries to do, and that is put perfectly with the sequence where he saves the little child. he did save her, but another person ended up dying in the fire, and he truly looks upset that he couldnt save the other person.
Matpat gave a pretty good explanation for the loss of powers. But for the poverty one, he could have used his Spider-Man image to make money (public appearance) or just move back with aunt may and pool their money together.
I don't find spider man 2 drastically better than 1 or 3; in fact, I rate all 3 movies rather similarly. They're all great films. And I unironically think Spider-Man 2 is easily the cheesiest, most resembling the "2000s", in the Raimi trilogy.
I've always thought tobey's performance in these movies were boring, but emo peter was the most engaging and interesting I've seen from tobey because it's so funny and different.
ehhhhh i would say the marvel trilogy does spiderman better. I mean spiderman has always been about that line 'with great power comes great responsibility' and spiderman (tom holland ) in the second one gives up so much to be spiderman and to be good that he is so much more of a better character
My family does "Hey" in the deep voice, "Kill that guy", "You gotta go home man", and pig "I frolick and I dance and I do this with my pants"/"Can you float thru the air when you smell a delicious pie?" And I think 2 more but can't remember right now on the spot lol
At 13:42, I couldn't help but laugh historically at Shaffrillas's comment and interpretation of emo Peter's line he gives to the landlord's daughter. "Do it again, but this time, I WANT SOME NUTS!" 🤣😂🤣😋🤣😂
I am so grateful to be alive today. My girlfriend saved my life last night. This is a selfie I took in the emergency room after having a severe allergic reaction to almonds. I went into anaphylaxis, meaning my face, my lips, my eyes, my tongue, and my throat all started swelling up rapidly, making it almost impossible for me to breathe. I also had a rash all over my entire body, and I was extremely red. Staying alive had never felt more difficult. At one point, my nasal passage was completely blocked, and it was getting more and more difficult to breathe. They shot me up with Benadryl, steroids, they gave me a breathing tube, and even other stuff that I can’t even remember, and it caused all of the swelling and the rash to go away. Because this was a severe allergic reaction, I need to continue taking steroids and Benadryl for the next week, because it is possible that the allergic reactions could come back at any point over the next week. The steroids and Benadryl make me feel like a zombie, and I really want to take care of my health, so this will be my main focus over the next week. I want to thank my amazing girlfriend, who made the decision to take me to the emergency room the second I started feeling itchy. I was hesitant about going, because I didn’t even want to believe this was actually happening. If it weren’t for my girlfriend driving me to the emergency room only minutes after eating the almonds, there is a good chance that I wouldn’t have made it according to the doctor. This has been without a doubt the hardest few days of my life, but I also look at them as the most important few days of my life. These moments have reminded me about what’s really important in life, and it has made me so grateful to even be here on this earth. I will be prioritizing my health over the next week, and I’ll post updates about how I feel. Thank you all for being patient during these difficult times. This movie used to scare me cause venom scared me and seeing spiderman dark and edgy scared me. But now as a 20 year old, all I can think is that Spiderman looks naked in his dark suit
Probably the only reason the CGI look worse during the first aerial battle is because neither character is a full CG model, rather they're being added onto a green screen background as they are. I agree it looks janky, but it's still impressive to a degree.
Little detail about when Peter throws the bomb back at Harry: It's harkening back to the shot from SM1 where Goblin did the same to him. It kinda shows that the line between hero and villain is blurred at this point for Peter. Just a nice little nod I spotted
Did you just compare the acting style of William Dafoe to the poor guy who played Venom in Spider-Man 3? Willam Dafoe is legendary. It’s like asking why your high school bully got floor when he took on Darth Vader. They are in 2 completely different leagues. I feel sorry for the next actor who will end up taking on the Green Goblin suit.
WOAH, did you just call the villains from Rami's trilogy "dumb"? That is one helluva hot take, arguably moreso than calling the third film the best. Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin is one of the most memorable villians in a superhero movie period.
Dumb can still be memorable, and I don't think it's "dumb" in a bad way. Also, remember that scene where the Green Goblin was just standing in the middle of a fire with an old lady's suit and then used a fake scream just to jumpscare Spider man? That was really dumb, but good dumb.

Actually it was originally Sandman and Harry
thats Ironic because I feel harry was barely even a villian in the movie
No Raimi actually chose Sandman as the main antagonist of this movie. As for Harry, he said that he would not follow his father's footsteps but be instead "somewhere between".
I think Sandman should've just died. It would show how Peter's actions have consequences, and it would've made the film less overstuffed. It also wouldn't have a seen of Peter forgiving a murderer. Even though he didn't mean to shoot Uncle Ben, he was still a criminal.
"This movie has many problems but emo Peter is not one of them."
Wow. After hearing SO MANY jump on the this-movie-is-bad-because-of-the-dance-scene bandwagon it's so good to finally hear somebody say that.

I'm glad people can laugh at these movies. I just can't seperate the enjoyable hokey-ness from the fact that this these movies were originally made to be taken kind of seriously. And they've aged like cheap cheese.
I find it absurdly difficult to believe that everyone dislikes or hate Spiderman 3 as much as they claim. Because all their opinions are the same you would've thought they were copy & paste bots or something it's ridiculous.

I fucking love that scene so much I don't understand why people hate it it's SO FUNNY

I feel like Rami knew that this was gonna get shit on on release but people would genuinely love it years later, no one could film the emo dance or act in it without knowing 100% that it was a piss take, Rami knew perfectly what he was doing with this trilogy, it has genuinely amazing emotional moments particularity in 1 and 2 but then it goes full on dumb comic book shit, its like he applied the Evil Dead mentality to these films, except balancing horror with hilarity its genuine character with the absurd comic books shit, they have massive problems across all 3 at times, but still, they're still so much fun and pull off what they we're meant to
Raimi managed to leave something good amidst the corporatism and marketing from Sony, and I applaud him for it.
People in 2007 didn’t understand the greatness of this cinematic masterpiece
Probably because they wanted something better like The Dark Knight.
I love spiderman 3, i only think venom was just bad.. But besides Venom, everything was good

And Luigi's Mansion
It's full of plot holes
Also the movie is goofy as fuck
Matpat gave a pretty good explanation for the loss of powers. But for the poverty one, he could have used his Spider-Man image to make money (public appearance) or just move back with aunt may and pool their money together.
I don't find spider man 2 drastically better than 1 or 3; in fact, I rate all 3 movies rather similarly. They're all great films.
And I unironically think Spider-Man 2 is easily the cheesiest, most resembling the "2000s", in the Raimi trilogy.

I always thought emo Peter was hilarious and it's perfectly explained here, it's so ridiculous and over the top and I love it.
I've always thought tobey's performance in these movies were boring, but emo peter was the most engaging and interesting I've seen from tobey because it's so funny and different.
I love how this feels like a cinematic disaster video, while simultaneously being titled "Why Spider-Man 3 is my Favorite of the Trilogy".
The Raimi trilogy is exactly how Spider-Man should be:
dumb, funny, heart warming, etc.
Action, Amazing, sad
I love it
Sooo gooood...
Sensational, spectacular and superior.
ehhhhh i would say the marvel trilogy does spiderman better.
I mean spiderman has always been about that line 'with great power comes great responsibility' and spiderman (tom holland ) in the second one gives up so much to be spiderman and to be good that he is so much more of a better character
Spider-Verse the least quotable? To that I say,
"Hey"
"Hey fellas"
All of spider noirs lines
“Not bad kid”
My family does "Hey" in the deep voice, "Kill that guy", "You gotta go home man", and pig "I frolick and I dance and I do this with my pants"/"Can you float thru the air when you smell a delicious pie?" And I think 2 more but can't remember right now on the spot lol
“I got a so so popsicle”
“We don’t really talk about this”
“Could you imagine a seahorse, seeing another seahorse. And makin it work” ?
I’ve been waiting for someone to understand my Phineas & Ferb “Okay” reference for literally years
Thank you
I do that, too. It's always good to meet fellow referencers.
At 13:42, I couldn't help but laugh historically at Shaffrillas's comment and interpretation of emo Peter's line he gives to the landlord's daughter.
"Do it again, but this time, I WANT SOME NUTS!"

to basically put this whole video into a sentence "It's good because it's bad."

This week has been NUTS (too soon for jokes? 😅)

The fact that Sam Raimi made us feel bad for CGI sand, easily makes him the best Spider-Man director ❤️❤️

Just a nice little nod I spotted

well that's Ned. not spider-man.

*WE WILL MEET AGAIN SPIDAMAAAAN!*
Alfred Molina's Doc Ock is arguably the greatest antagonist in a superhero film period.

One word fam; consistency. (White should have been the first Villian Steven had to actively choose to kill. Big moment)
