Shen’s implied/cut backstory is SO compelling and sad. His parents never cared for him as he was originally written to be very sickly and considered weak. The Soothsayer was his nanny and the only one who cared for him, but it was not enough to make him a good person when he craved his parents’ respect and admiration. He invented the use of fireworks as cannons, but it scared them because they knew he’d use them as weapons, and didn’t like seeing the darkness in his heart. Everything he did seemed to disappoint them. They expected him to be evil and cruel. And so he did. He decided to be as evil as he possibly could. And Shen was wrong. His parents loved him, even though they didn’t know how. Even after the atrocities he committed. So much so, that sending him away destroyed them. But what was done, was already done. And as the Soothsayer tells him, the cup he chooses to drink from will never satisfy him, because ruling everything, subjugating everyone, will not give him the love he’s missing. He is easily my favorite of the Kung Fu Panda villains, I somehow wanted his spirit or something to be in the third film. They wrote him SO well. An evil, prideful person, consumed by bitterness, rejection, and hatred. A warrior of black and white DID cause his downfall, but it wasn’t Po...
I think what puts Lord Shen just slightly above Tai Lung for me is that he serves as much more of an Antagonist. Tai Lung is a lot more threatening but not directly to Po, instead being more of something against Shifu, Shen however is both a Psychological and Physical opponent directly against Po. Not to mention that the way Po beats him feels just a little bit more believable than how he beats Tai Lung. Of course they are both absolutely excellent villians and it's pretty hard to say that one is better than the other.
They were made for different plots in a series. Tai-Lung is who Po tried to be but without taking in the lessons he did to be the real Dragon Warrior while Lord Shen is a spectre from Po's past.

To me, for Prince of Egypt, the line that really sells Ramises’ actor is when he is standing over his dead son. That line of “Leave me!” Just feels so real to me. I feel grief, anger, sadness, giving up, so many emotions in just two words.

Jack Horner while yes completely sociopathic and lacks any kind of empathy for life, hasn’t committed any actual horrific crimes but if he got his wish I wouldn’t be surprised if he did commit genocide against fairy tail creatures
Reason why I believe Shen outshines Tai Lung is because he has an actual connection with Po, which makes him feel more connected to the story rather than a looming threat that impacts at the end of the movie.
Both I feel were menacing on their own way. Lung was an extremely powerful and physically intimidating antagonist, but what Shen lacked in physique he more than made up for in ruthlessness and smarts.
I respect Schaff for his defence for Dreamwork’s. They are an excellent animation studio like Pixar and Ghibli. I mean who else can make not 1 not 2 but 3 great animated trilogy’s.
Maybe visually, but I think Dreamworks have better and compelling stories, I also like their feeling of doing something unique for each film, even if it's not always a hit. I also prefer Ghibli visually and feelsgood (except Grave) over Pixar and Dreamworks. Also I've always found Dreamworks comedy to slap for me
Dreamworks nowadays is comparable to Disney animation at its peak (the lion king,jungle book,etc) , something Pixar was unable to achieve. Ghibli ofc is a whole nother level with its style and storyline

I always felt their messages were simple and towards children, but I definitely feel their incredible sense for creating emotional character moments like no other.

Hal was an incredible dangerous guy. He became so violent after being rejected by Roxanne. He saw her as an object and believe she owed him for being the “nice guy”.
Hal is basically Homelander from The Boys. Sure, Homelander's not "the nice guy", but look how much the two have in common: both receiving superpowers due to a scientific chemical, feeling a big sense of entitlement for love and attention they both believe they deserve, just because they're powerful enough to get away with anything, only to become evil out of petty reasons. Not to mention the emphasis of the quote, "All you're gifts, your powers, and you squander them for your own personal gain?!".
She's effectively the equivalent of a super powerful megacorp CEO trying to make a puppet of hers become the head of her country. Not to mention that if Charming were to marry Fiona, she would *literally* become royalty. And let's be honest, had the marriage gone off according to plan, she would have certainly arranged a horrific "accident" to take Harold, Lillian, and possibly even Fiona out of the picture ASAP, probably as soon as Fiona and Charming's kid was born.
How has nobody talked about Melisha Tweedy from chicken run? Her portrayal as a threat works very well, she may not be confronting them all the time yet she has an extremely compelling ambience around her meaning death, both her design and personality towards her husband and the chickens showcase that. her best moments are the ones when she interacts with the chickens for their "Selection" as it means one of them is going to die.
Chicken Run is literally a prisoner of war film. We see Mrs Tweedy's silhouette preparing to cut off Edwina's head and later we see her carcass picked clean. She should've been in the top 5.
No he didn't, just because he's strong doesn't mean he's the best, and he's not even scary, his personal connection he had with the mc are almost none, yes he watched him die so what ? He does with everyone too right ? His motives are not even that good
Prince of Egypt didn't just give us one great villain, it gave us two. Rameses is clearly the best one, as he is given the most screentime, and at the heart of the movie, as one half the the relationship between the two brothers. But I would argue that Pharaoh Seti deserves to be on here as well. He's one of those rare movie villains whose actions are clearly evil, and yet he isn't cartoonishly evil, ironically enough. He orders the deaths of hundreds of babies, but he thinks of it as a tragic necessity. He's given room to air his doubts. Seti isn't given much time, he only appears in the first act, but this is where being voiced by a great actor (Patrick Stewart) really helps him, because even in that brief first act, he leaves a great impact.

The reason the Verminator is on the list and not some other Dreamworks classics is because none of *those* characters have an associate's degree from VermTech.
I think Shen and Tai Lung were equally terrifying in different ways. Tai Lung was a massive force of power, but Shen's connection to Po and his actions are simply horrifying.
I genuinely agree that Titan is one of the best Dreamworks, if not, one of the best animated villains I’ve seen. He’s so terrifyingly realistic that I can’t help but love it
I love how close they made the sibling relationship in “the prince of Egypt”. It’s it’s heart wrenching to see Moses face against the last person he’d ever want to hurt. And to hear the their despair in “the plagues” is utterly haunting. As one brother pleads for salvation for his people, the other is struggling to comprehend why the one person who’s always supported him is now against him. I don’t think anything will ever top that dynamic.

It's canonical that God set up Ramses to clash with his brother and intervened to make Ramses not give in even in the face of the plagues ("God hardened his heart") and so in this sense, God can be seen as puppeteering the brothers to clash. Therefore, some people consider God the true villain of The Prince of Egypt
They played this movie at catechism when I was a kid and the last plague made me go "what the f", the way they deliver that moment is truly saddening since the pharaoh is so pitiful during that scene. It makes you question if fighting violence and oppression with weapons that are on par with that in terms of brought misery is really the only solution. It makes you wish people were able to just talk stuff out.
I honestly like the artistic choice of occasionally making Lord Shen look pathetic. The whole basis of Lord Shen's character is an insatiable drive to be in control of everything. He is the embodiment of authoritarianism, and the abrupt juxtaposition of being humiliated by an elderly soothsayer and a dumb commander really drives home just how flawed his worldview is.
It’s such a good song and the animation accompanying it is gorgeous as well. With Ramses’ chaotic and erratic movements as he loses control contrasted with Moses simply standing tall as he watches the destruction around him.
Lord Shen > Tai Lung. The ending where he accepts that he can't change and will not change and just dies willingly just breaks me. Evil? Absolutely. Almost having redemption but failing? Heartbreaking.
I would almost argue that both if them had that exact same experience, except that Tai Lung didnt truly accept not having the power. Instead, he held onto his anger and tried to destroy both Po and the Valley. Meanwhile Shen actually accepted the death and unchangeable ness of his nature.
@Ahmed Malaki Actually, in this particular case, this is a good representation of a philosophy that is linked to kung-fu: the Wude. it is mostly considered to be the Mercy of the strong. If you show your adversaire you are both stronger and wiser than them, they will either accept it, or consume themselves, as Wude is also the art of accepting your defeat when it comes up. Those who master Kung Fu and Wude will let their adversaire know they could break them, and so, their adversaire will cease to fight.
metetria 2.0 lol same, I will say he is the weakest villain in terms of motivation and intimidation compared to Tailung and Shen, but I like Kai more because I love his personality, fantastic theme, I love his design a little bit more than shen, he’s funny and imo he is more epic than tailung and shen. Dreamworks is so good at breaking and bending their own rules, and their creativity is crazy. they're experts at comedy and when they nail it, they REALLY nail it. even movies that aren't rly that great have good moments bc Dreamworks knows how to be absurd. they also make their action scenes look more fun too bc of how they're so willing to be ridiculous and break cartoon physics. love to see it.
Bruh, to add to why Tai Lung is scary: when I was younger and the movie was out, my family and I saw it and there was a thunderstorm outside. During his escape scene, the thunderstorm made the power go out, so the screen went to black.
That line is brilliant, especially because it's clear that Seti is trying to make Moses feel BETTER when he says it! He's trying to be a good father by telling his son, that he loves, that he shouldn't care about the thousands of people who he murdered. It's twisted, but so very human at the same time and Patrick Stewart sells his delivery so well!
It's chilling when the father says it. Then later when rameses says it again like its no big deal it's just disheartening as hell. No way he's gonna listen.

The best part about the Verminator is that the older you get, the more you realise that he's not even a villain, he's really just an everyday guy doing his damn job with passion and pride.

Shen is a personal favorite for me because of his actions in the climax. Yes, he created the cycle of events that lead to PO becoming the Dragon Warrior and his downfall, but what got me about him was how he just, coldly kills his secind in command when he refuses to kill their soldiers. Just STABS THE DUDE. ON CAMERA. And then rather than lose, he leans into the falling mast and chooses death! Kungfu Panda 2 is such a dark and heavy movie in so many ways and its amazing.
Doireann Lynch, same. I’ll always defend Kung Fu Panda 3. Wish it was more serious like the first 2 but the comedy pretty much landed and was executed perfectly and it still retained the heart, character growth and action from the first two that I don’t mind.
Shen was the only villain that scared me as a child. That movie was the first I saw in 3D and holy cow. The beginning of the movie was engraved into my head and he absolutely blew me away. He definitely is my favorite

Shen is so graceful in his martial art style. DreamWorks never leaves any details out. When you watch the fight scenes, every fight style is matched with the animal they are.
The thing that I love about The Prince of Egypt, is that you don't even have to be Religious to like the movie. You can take it as an entirely fictional movie with no real-life faith whatsoever, and it's still AMAZING. The music, the animation, the writing, it's all so perfectly done, I'm so glad I grew up with this movie. Also for Rise of the Guardians, Pitch is a better villain when you've read the books the movie is based off of and know his story, which sucks for the people that didn't even know the books existed. Pitch was originally a guard for the Man in the Moon, and guarded a magic cell that held in the Fearlings. The Fearlings mimicked his daughter's voice to make Pitch think she was in there and in danger, so he went in to get her, and was possessed. It's quite sad actually.
For sure about Pitch. I wonder if DreamWorks would have expanded on his and the other's backstories more if RotG had a more public and engaged following like HttYD. A series that introduced other characters like Katherine, Umbric, and the Fearlings would be neat to watch. Heck, I'll take a short or something if it means RotG returns to their radar :/
The books are called “The Guardians of Childhood”. There’s five books out, one for each character and their intro. It’s got some cool backstories and characters that didn’t make it into the movie. If you have the chance, there’s also 3 illustration books that are really gorgeous!
When he ranked shen at 4 and was talking him up so much, I was genuinely so scared thinking that he didn’t put Tai Lung on the list, but then I was so happy when Tai Lung was put higher. Tai Lung was an amazing villain, and definitely deserves his spot.

He is legitimately scary, not creepy dude wearing an ahegao hoodie and a skyrim necklace in the con hall with the broken led light scary, actually powerful scary. The fun of farquad is more about how non self aware he is, while he is insecure about his height he still thinks very highly (pun intended) of himself, in a way that is not accurate at all. Rumpel is a lil dork, but he embraces it and hes legitimately fucking scary and smart. He is sure a bit pathetic, but pathetic is not his only character contrary to farquad.

In Kung Fu Panda 2, the part where Lord Shen dies might be one of my favourite villain deaths in animation. Its not even because of how he died, its the fact that the reason why he died a villain's death is because he carried his evil side to the bitter end, even after Po offers him a chance to turn his life around. It fits in so well to the thematic message of, who you were doesn't define you as much as who you choose to be.
And because he knew he couldn't find inner peace, after living his whole life consumed by evil, he chose to accept his death by his own weapon. And finally accept his destiny rather than running away like he did in his past

Sort of fighting against his fate as much as possible and allowing anything but Po himself to defeat him. But I absolutely love your view and how his reasoning behind his death in general was left open ended!

Bit of a shame with Shen, did you know in some online bonus materials it was revealed the Soothsayer was his nurse (nanny goat, get it?), and did most of the work to raise him? That's why he lets her get away with so much, and why he lets her go later in the movie. It's part of how Shen is set up to reflect Po in some ways. They both lost their original homes and family - Shen by his own actions but he's still obviously hurting from it in the movie - and both had an adoptive parent.
Prior to my deep researches in Kung Fu Panda, I already knew they are deeply related, but I thought she was only his tutor. The film gives you some vague hints of their relationship, but its should be shown up or told in the film, it's would make Shen stand up even more.
Please do a video on the Prince of Egypt. It’s such an criminally underrated gem and, in my opinion, one of the best animated movies of all time. The music, the storytelling, the visuals- it is truly a masterpiece. (Also there will never be a song that goes as hard as The Plagues, so jot that down)
I can say that it is underrated as I’ve never seen it yet heard so much good about it. Given that I live in a Christian family, I’m shocked I’ve never seen it and will have to get around to it

I'm pretty sure that Barry tried and succeeded to sue *THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE* (that quote is somewhere, you've memorized the script) and shut down the entire honey industry, so I can agree that the economic costs of letting him live are likely not worth it for the humans (plus the last of the flowers were practically a week from death, and an already crippled economy couldn't recover from the resulting famine and operate on only crops that they can pollinate without bees).
To be complete honest Dreamworks is the only studio to make sequels “better” than originals. HTTYD 2 was AMAZING and Kung Fu Panda 2? Holy shit. Dreamworks is seriously underrated I wish they had a streaming service of their own. 😭
I would greatly prefer they NOT have a streaming service of their own just because there are already about 5,000 any individual needs to get the shows they want, but I agree otherwise. They do amazing work all around.

Titan is simultaneously one of the most terrifying and most hilarious villains ever written, and the best part is that his character never changes throughout the movie. He doesn't suddenly become evil, he was always awful, and he just becomes so powerful that nobody can stop him from doing whatever he wants.

In my opinion the most wonderful part about Lord Shen is his inability to go over his trauma, something that had in common with the protagonist. And when Po finally managed to heal from it, Shen remains speachless, becouse instead of coultivating anger and hate, he could heal too. The duality of this protagonist and antagonist features makes him a more solid villan than any others in the saga, alwais in my opinion.
To be fair. All the Kung Fu panda villains had that duality with Po, where Po eventually able to overcome them by mentally bypassing things they are unable to. Tai Lung was unable to see the secret of the dragon scroll because, despite all his power and his ability, he never saw himself as good enough. The power of the Dragon Warrior was the only thing that could. And Kai and Po are different from how they gain their power. Kai has to take and steal his power from others, while Po has had people give it to him and help him learn. Its paralleled even in the backstory. Kai was a conquering warlord who took his spoils by force while Po was a kung fu geek who was helped by others to get where he was through friendship and close relationships.
Another layer to Shen that I think is fantastic is that when the boat comes crashing down on him, he accepts it instead of escaping, which he easily could do. My personal interpretation of that is that when he saw that Po healed, he realized it was possible all along for him to be healed, and that the past thirty years of rage and revenge plotting were all for nothing. So when he saw the ship crashing down towards him, he no longer had a reason to escape and live. It adds beautifully to the duality of Po and Shen.

Shen’s implied/cut backstory is SO compelling and sad. His parents never cared for him as he was originally written to be very sickly and considered weak. The Soothsayer was his nanny and the only one who cared for him, but it was not enough to make him a good person when he craved his parents’ respect and admiration. He invented the use of fireworks as cannons, but it scared them because they knew he’d use them as weapons, and didn’t like seeing the darkness in his heart. Everything he did seemed to disappoint them. They expected him to be evil and cruel. And so he did. He decided to be as evil as he possibly could. And Shen was wrong. His parents loved him, even though they didn’t know how. Even after the atrocities he committed. So much so, that sending him away destroyed them. But what was done, was already done. And as the Soothsayer tells him, the cup he chooses to drink from will never satisfy him, because ruling everything, subjugating everyone, will not give him the love he’s missing. He is easily my favorite of the Kung Fu Panda villains, I somehow wanted his spirit or something to be in the third film. They wrote him SO well. An evil, prideful person, consumed by bitterness, rejection, and hatred. A warrior of black and white DID cause his downfall, but it wasn’t Po...

I think what puts Lord Shen just slightly above Tai Lung for me is that he serves as much more of an Antagonist. Tai Lung is a lot more threatening but not directly to Po, instead being more of something against Shifu, Shen however is both a Psychological and Physical opponent directly against Po. Not to mention that the way Po beats him feels just a little bit more believable than how he beats Tai Lung. Of course they are both absolutely excellent villians and it's pretty hard to say that one is better than the other.
They were made for different plots in a series. Tai-Lung is who Po tried to be but without taking in the lessons he did to be the real Dragon Warrior while Lord Shen is a spectre from Po's past.

Reason why I believe Shen outshines Tai Lung is because he has an actual connection with Po, which makes him feel more connected to the story rather than a looming threat that impacts at the end of the movie.
Both I feel were menacing on their own way. Lung was an extremely powerful and physically intimidating antagonist, but what Shen lacked in physique he more than made up for in ruthlessness and smarts.

Dreamworks nowadays is comparable to Disney animation at its peak (the lion king,jungle book,etc) , something Pixar was unable to achieve. Ghibli ofc is a whole nother level with its style and storyline

Fairy god mother is a beast. I think the only thing “wrong” with her character is that she has kind of a weak motivation, and close to no back story.

How has nobody talked about Melisha Tweedy from chicken run? Her portrayal as a threat works very well, she may not be confronting them all the time yet she has an extremely compelling ambience around her meaning death, both her design and personality towards her husband and the chickens showcase that. her best moments are the ones when she interacts with the chickens for their "Selection" as it means one of them is going to die.
Chicken Run is literally a prisoner of war film. We see Mrs Tweedy's silhouette preparing to cut off Edwina's head and later we see her carcass picked clean.
She should've been in the top 5.

Prince of Egypt didn't just give us one great villain, it gave us two. Rameses is clearly the best one, as he is given the most screentime, and at the heart of the movie, as one half the the relationship between the two brothers. But I would argue that Pharaoh Seti deserves to be on here as well. He's one of those rare movie villains whose actions are clearly evil, and yet he isn't cartoonishly evil, ironically enough. He orders the deaths of hundreds of babies, but he thinks of it as a tragic necessity. He's given room to air his doubts. Seti isn't given much time, he only appears in the first act, but this is where being voiced by a great actor (Patrick Stewart) really helps him, because even in that brief first act, he leaves a great impact.

I love how close they made the sibling relationship in “the prince of Egypt”. It’s it’s heart wrenching to see Moses face against the last person he’d ever want to hurt. And to hear the their despair in “the plagues” is utterly haunting. As one brother pleads for salvation for his people, the other is struggling to comprehend why the one person who’s always supported him is now against him. I don’t think anything will ever top that dynamic.

It's canonical that God set up Ramses to clash with his brother and intervened to make Ramses not give in even in the face of the plagues ("God hardened his heart") and so in this sense, God can be seen as puppeteering the brothers to clash. Therefore, some people consider God the true villain of The Prince of Egypt
They played this movie at catechism when I was a kid and the last plague made me go "what the f", the way they deliver that moment is truly saddening since the pharaoh is so pitiful during that scene. It makes you question if fighting violence and oppression with weapons that are on par with that in terms of brought misery is really the only solution. It makes you wish people were able to just talk stuff out.
I honestly like the artistic choice of occasionally making Lord Shen look pathetic. The whole basis of Lord Shen's character is an insatiable drive to be in control of everything. He is the embodiment of authoritarianism, and the abrupt juxtaposition of being humiliated by an elderly soothsayer and a dumb commander really drives home just how flawed his worldview is.

I would almost argue that both if them had that exact same experience, except that Tai Lung didnt truly accept not having the power. Instead, he held onto his anger and tried to destroy both Po and the Valley. Meanwhile Shen actually accepted the death and unchangeable ness of his nature.

It's twisted, but so very human at the same time and Patrick Stewart sells his delivery so well!

why is my favorite brawl stars creator here?
Shen is a personal favorite for me because of his actions in the climax. Yes, he created the cycle of events that lead to PO becoming the Dragon Warrior and his downfall, but what got me about him was how he just, coldly kills his secind in command when he refuses to kill their soldiers. Just STABS THE DUDE. ON CAMERA. And then rather than lose, he leans into the falling mast and chooses death! Kungfu Panda 2 is such a dark and heavy movie in so many ways and its amazing.
Makes you wonder why they drop the ball on the third movie.

Doireann Lynch, same. I’ll always defend Kung Fu Panda 3. Wish it was more serious like the first 2 but the comedy pretty much landed and was executed perfectly and it still retained the heart, character growth and action from the first two that I don’t mind.
Shen was the only villain that scared me as a child. That movie was the first I saw in 3D and holy cow. The beginning of the movie was engraved into my head and he absolutely blew me away. He definitely is my favorite

He’s so majestic though. Can’t really get scared over animated villains when I’m to busy marvelling over how they’re animated.
Shen is so graceful in his martial art style. DreamWorks never leaves any details out. When you watch the fight scenes, every fight style is matched with the animal they are.

The thing that I love about The Prince of Egypt, is that you don't even have to be Religious to like the movie. You can take it as an entirely fictional movie with no real-life faith whatsoever, and it's still AMAZING. The music, the animation, the writing, it's all so perfectly done, I'm so glad I grew up with this movie.
Also for Rise of the Guardians, Pitch is a better villain when you've read the books the movie is based off of and know his story, which sucks for the people that didn't even know the books existed. Pitch was originally a guard for the Man in the Moon, and guarded a magic cell that held in the Fearlings. The Fearlings mimicked his daughter's voice to make Pitch think she was in there and in danger, so he went in to get her, and was possessed. It's quite sad actually.
For sure about Pitch. I wonder if DreamWorks would have expanded on his and the other's backstories more if RotG had a more public and engaged following like HttYD. A series that introduced other characters like Katherine, Umbric, and the Fearlings would be neat to watch.
Heck, I'll take a short or something if it means RotG returns to their radar :/

The books are called “The Guardians of Childhood”. There’s five books out, one for each character and their intro. It’s got some cool backstories and characters that didn’t make it into the movie. If you have the chance, there’s also 3 illustration books that are really gorgeous!

He is legitimately scary, not creepy dude wearing an ahegao hoodie and a skyrim necklace in the con hall with the broken led light scary, actually powerful scary. The fun of farquad is more about how non self aware he is, while he is insecure about his height he still thinks very highly (pun intended) of himself, in a way that is not accurate at all. Rumpel is a lil dork, but he embraces it and hes legitimately fucking scary and smart. He is sure a bit pathetic, but pathetic is not his only character contrary to farquad.

In Kung Fu Panda 2, the part where Lord Shen dies might be one of my favourite villain deaths in animation. Its not even because of how he died, its the fact that the reason why he died a villain's death is because he carried his evil side to the bitter end, even after Po offers him a chance to turn his life around. It fits in so well to the thematic message of, who you were doesn't define you as much as who you choose to be.
And because he knew he couldn't find inner peace, after living his whole life consumed by evil, he chose to accept his death by his own weapon. And finally accept his destiny rather than running away like he did in his past
@@imle9279I actually interpreted it in a different way - he kept running from his destiny to the point he was willing to die by his own creation than by Po himself. Sort of fighting against his fate as much as possible and allowing anything but Po himself to defeat him. But I absolutely love your view and how his reasoning behind his death in general was left open ended!

Also the small detail of the fireworks forming out the silhouette of a peacock in Shen's colors is an awsome choice by the animators

Bit of a shame with Shen, did you know in some online bonus materials it was revealed the Soothsayer was his nurse (nanny goat, get it?), and did most of the work to raise him? That's why he lets her get away with so much, and why he lets her go later in the movie. It's part of how Shen is set up to reflect Po in some ways. They both lost their original homes and family - Shen by his own actions but he's still obviously hurting from it in the movie - and both had an adoptive parent.

Prior to my deep researches in Kung Fu Panda, I already knew they are deeply related, but I thought she was only his tutor. The film gives you some vague hints of their relationship, but its should be shown up or told in the film, it's would make Shen stand up even more.
Please do a video on the Prince of Egypt. It’s such an criminally underrated gem and, in my opinion, one of the best animated movies of all time. The music, the storytelling, the visuals- it is truly a masterpiece. (Also there will never be a song that goes as hard as The Plagues, so jot that down)

Titan is simultaneously one of the most terrifying and most hilarious villains ever written, and the best part is that his character never changes throughout the movie. He doesn't suddenly become evil, he was always awful, and he just becomes so powerful that nobody can stop him from doing whatever he wants.
Right? I've never seen an animated movie like Megamind make me actively hate misogynistic nerds.

In my opinion the most wonderful part about Lord Shen is his inability to go over his trauma, something that had in common with the protagonist. And when Po finally managed to heal from it, Shen remains speachless, becouse instead of coultivating anger and hate, he could heal too. The duality of this protagonist and antagonist features makes him a more solid villan than any others in the saga, alwais in my opinion.
To be fair. All the Kung Fu panda villains had that duality with Po, where Po eventually able to overcome them by mentally bypassing things they are unable to.
Tai Lung was unable to see the secret of the dragon scroll because, despite all his power and his ability, he never saw himself as good enough. The power of the Dragon Warrior was the only thing that could.
And Kai and Po are different from how they gain their power. Kai has to take and steal his power from others, while Po has had people give it to him and help him learn. Its paralleled even in the backstory. Kai was a conquering warlord who took his spoils by force while Po was a kung fu geek who was helped by others to get where he was through friendship and close relationships.
Another layer to Shen that I think is fantastic is that when the boat comes crashing down on him, he accepts it instead of escaping, which he easily could do. My personal interpretation of that is that when he saw that Po healed, he realized it was possible all along for him to be healed, and that the past thirty years of rage and revenge plotting were all for nothing. So when he saw the ship crashing down towards him, he no longer had a reason to escape and live. It adds beautifully to the duality of Po and Shen.

Anyway I don't find Kai as convincing as the other two (song excluded) but maby it's because the film itself, wich i saw it as unnecessary, since it features the conflict with the Po's paternal figure, the same theme of the 2nd film
