Dont buy a new shaft, go to a driveshaft specialist and get the tube section replaced with a thicker tube, rebalanced and then you wont get dings and twist a shaft. I think I went to a 3or 4mm tube, when I did mine on my 80s, nothing is unbreakable, but the Toyota factory are like 1mm thin and as you said a ding will weaken the shaft. Suggestion I tell everyone is measure your stock shafts, a good shop should know, but with older models mainly of others, its important if getting rebuilt! (correct length) ATs are different to MT trans shafts for example. I can lay mine on rocks no problems. Of course if you drive like that, you will break something else, ya have to know when to hold em and when to fold em take a different line, big power takes big responsibility if ya don't want to keep breaking stuff, its not the car its the driver! But minor upgrades when ya do, helps. Same thing as we all ya upgrade control arms drive arms (Drag/Tie rods etc) load goes somewhere else, so its a process! But even then, best process learn to control the right foot! No matter the truck, (ask Tyler why he's had 3 engines)😜
Hi Tyler - I really enjoy your work and each episode every Sunday. For me it's a good balance, not everyone is going to go out on hard core tracks each week, but you manage to do some touring with the family and spend time with your Dad. In the real world things go wrong and Burto's mechanical knowledge explaining how he works out what is wrong and how fixes things make it interesting. The collaboration with other content creators also keeps it interesting. keep up the good work !!!
Another great episode Tyler. I don’t want you to change a thing. You have the best content - a mix of everything. Super entertaining and better than the rest mate.
Phwoarrrrrrrr Tyler great episode guys it's a pity Uncle Pooly threw a tail shaft he's cool have to do another video with him and Burto now that would be awesome cheers legends 😄
You got either bad connections that power the relays or switches or bad earthing. E lockers themselves dont fail. Its a installation issue. Ran airleakers for years and had nothing but troubles with the o rings sealing in the 3rd member. Ran e lockers after that never had an issue.
To be honest I've had all issues with them. - Originally I had wiring issues which were half installer fault and half the average quality wiring loom that comes with them. - We got on top of all the wiring then the internals failed, sent both back to Harrop and got them re built and fixed by them. - So freshly wired and freshly built lockers by Harrop and now having dramas with them again, probably wiring issues im guessing this time but either way I'm just over it and I don't believe they are a great locker for hard wheeling. The roll back disengagement causes too many issues and they often don't re engage again instantly and take multiple wheel revelations to go at which point you're off line. All my mates who do hard wheeling run air lockers, 99% of winch truck drivers run air lockers. They are the superior locker/a better instant & stronger engagement for hard wheeling.
might want to look and see if you can get a locker with the external motor driven locking ring. these dont have the roll back issue. and much easier to make a fix track side with wiring compared to air. strength wise well, yea air is stronger but unless your running 40's, it wouldnt matter 😅
@@TylerThompson90 never had a roll back disengagement ever with mine and with winch truck use, to be honest never had it with any locker. I don't think your going to have any better luck with any locker unless they are installed properly. I like e lockers for the fact the only issue that could happen is a wiring issue outside of the centre. If an airlocker leaks it could be either in or out and would suck if it's the o rings inside like I've had. Could argue the locker brand all-day long like Nissan vs Toyota haha but hope you have luck with the airlockers. Be good if you did an actual comparison/ pro cons with it seeing as you would've run both aswell.

If I was you I and was doing trips like this for hard wheeling far from home I would tow a little lockable and secure box trailer with some 37”Treps, a rooftop tent, fridge, cooking gear etc so you can setup base camp and dump all your touring weight.
