These are terrific bikes. I passed on an excellent survivor recently because I'm just not into 4s anymore. And yet I still kick myself for never owning one when I was. I loved them when they came out and couldn't afford it and loved them from afar since. Have fun with it. I'm currently looking into a low-mileage GK model with a possible stator problem. Your video was perfect. Thanks.
Thanks for commenting 👍 I have another one of these that I'm going to pull out of the barn pretty soon. It's a bit crustier. I'll make a quick preview video on that.
Nice bike, an unappreciated classic. Back in the day I owned a '77 early model GS750, light blue with spoked wheels, single front disc & I loved that bike. I rode a friends GS1000 & it was significantly quicker, almost night & day.
th-cam.com/video/AdPxP8jzukw/w-d-xo.html Check this video I made a couple years ago. It lays out jetting pretty close. I think I could be one or two sizes fat on the main jet however. And there's a couple other videos on that bike besides the link I sent you. Check my channel!
Bummer on the crash. Glad you got it back in shape. I have the exact same 1979 bike. Same model, same color. I just found out my bike, bought new in 1980, had a 1980 tank on it with the screwdriver slot petcock instead of the 3 position hand lever petcock like yours. Weird. Anyway, I noticed the gasket on your Alternator cover had a small piece around a bottom screw hole that matched a missing piece on the main engine piece. Since there's really no oil in that space, did you leave it as is or replace the gasket? Also, I'm curious if you know of some good case guards that I could pick up for mine, to prevent this type of damage. Thanks much. I really enjoy your videos. Very informative..
That's interesting on your tank, I wonder how that happened. And yes, I did replace that gasket. As far as case guards, try ebay. The funny thing is, I took some off of that bike and threw them away. Also, I have another GS1000 video coming out probably tomorrow, different bike. It's just some content I threw together because there's not much going on right now. Thanks for checking out my videos and commenting!
@@CrustyCycle9317 It was a "new" '79 bought in the spring of 1980. So, it was effectively a year or more old. Maybe that's why it was on sale. I got it for $3,000. I think the dealer just replaced the '79 tank with an '80 tank due to a simple stock pulling mistake or shipping damage that he sent the '79 tank back for warranty work. I could never find a '79 fuel petcock that matched the one on my bike. The frame and motor numbers show it's a '79.
yeah them damn side cover screws are a bitch to bust loose. I have a '78 GS750E. Getting ready to change my stator and rectifier. They be old and not quite doing like they used to. I have an engine guard I have to pull off. And yeah the screws are like between a 2-3. They are a bitch. I use blue thread locker putting 'em back in.

Great video! I now understand what are the issues to look forward on the stator! Keep up the good work and Thank You for the video! Cheers!
Thank you, there's always more repairs to make and I'll try to video them.

Yep, unappreciated. The big Kawasakis get all the love. We have a GS 750 in the family also, same color as the 1000.
I had 3 of these...Suzi makes excellent bikes ❤❤❤
I've owned three also, great old litre class workhorses.
Do you mind sharing your jet and needle recipe for good running with pods?
Let me get with Charlie and get that info. I thought we called out jet sizes in the video, but not needle position?

you need to buy some JIS screwdrivers
I'll definitely check that out.

Yep, just easy does it, getting those screws out. Sounds like you've been in there before though, you got this.
