That's awesome. I'm a Kawasaki/sport bike guy but these GS' do check all the boxes for me and it's always rewarding to get these old school bikes back on the road

The regulator rectifier is one unit on these bikes

I put 100,000 miles on a 1978 E that was owned by Dr. Vandyke whe bought it new. Dr. Vandyke is the brother of the country singer Leroy Vandyke. In the 20 years I had the bike the rectifier went out twice. I finally got rid of mine because I believe to be carburetor problems I could never track down. Good luck with your new bike. I sure do miss mine. You’ll have to excuse me now, I am going to go have a little cry. GOD I SURE DO MISS HER.Best bike I’ve ever had !!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the comment. Old school carbureted bikes are something special. 100k is a lot of fun miles

Suzukis of this era were well known for having reg/rec issues.

Interesting. Usually it's the mechanical/moving parts that are the common issues on certain models of vehicles. Thank you for the comment

The reg/rec on my gs1000s went south. Boiled the battery and blew fuses.

Look at youtube videos to see how to replace...you can test each with multimeter

Typically the stator and the regulator/rectifier go out on these bike, no power all dead common symptom.
