  • Today I attempt for the first time a simple mod on the made in Mexico EVH STAR Guitar which will apply to all made in Mexico EVH guitars with the FLOYD 1000 and D-TUNA. I'm attempting to make it easier to ENGAGE and DIS-ENGAGE the D-TUNA! Sound clips at the end of the VIDEO!

    Do like Eddie and lose the springs altogether. By design, they're kinda redundant and Eddie believed the bridge and block coupled better with the little leaf springs removed.

    Great video! My stealth black 5150 has this issue. Being my first D Tuna i had no idea what to do. I do now!

    • @OhYouAteOne2
      @OhYouAteOne2  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Another very important note that I completely forgot to mention is to be sure the fine tuner is not sticking down too far.. it needs to be able to screw all the way up to where it barely touches the lock screw.. ok maybe I did mention that? 😂👍🏻

    I find the the chrome or the colored D-Tuna's work than the black one as they aren't painted. Those tension fingers I flatten the low E one or you can snip it off at the bend if you have your floyd torn apart

    • @OhYouAteOne2
      @OhYouAteOne2  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I bent it down.. much better

    I do the same on the d-tuna and screw but I also add a little graphite powder that you can get at hobby lobby in the pine car derby section. I do not however bend the tension spring.

    • @OhYouAteOne2
      @OhYouAteOne2  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, taking a bit of that tension off helps. The Dtuna adds a lot of material and that spring really holds on tight..

    I have no experience with floyds or D-tunas, but while watching it looked like that thing is metal on metal. Is there any kind of lubrication on the D-tuna body? Maybe a bit of 3in1 oil or some such could help that thing slide easier? Just a thought! I love watching mod videos and learning stuff. The Star sounded great when you played us out! Thank you my friend!

    • @OhYouAteOne2
      @OhYouAteOne2  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A light touch of lube may help, however it tends to then become a huge dust magnet.. thus the reason to smooth out both pieces.. I moves freely when there’s not so much tension from that lower retention spring

    • @ferdberfle5069
      @ferdberfle5069 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OhYouAteOne2 Maybe some powered graphite then? That shouldn't attract dust!

    • @OhYouAteOne2

      I put a tiny drop of Schwinn chain oil on the fine tuner threads D-Tuna screw and any string contact points after the string blocks.

  • @johnnyromero3336
    @johnnyromero3336 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The issue I have run into with the D'Tuna's is the little fine tuning allen screw sometimes runs out of adjustment. I have used some lubricate on the D tuna's with good results to.

    Just got a Kramer Baretta custom graphics that came with pretty much the same config, FR 1000 and D-Tuna. This is my first experience with the d-tuna, and mine is super hard to operate... I also think it wobbles way too much when in drop, making a loud rattly noise. Do you know about anything I can do to fix it?

    • @OhYouAteOne2
      @OhYouAteOne2  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just be sure the fine tuner screw is not damaged and can screw all the way up, also check that the spring in the dtuna is not missing.. never heard of one rattling before

    • @Volgin.
      @Volgin. ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OhYouAteOne2It makes a kindof buzzing sound actually. And its just when I chug when its in Drop position. I checked and that small spring is there. Maybe the screw is too big? Not sure, but it feels like there is a lot of slack when its pulled. Also, after you did the mods in the video, are you able to pull it without diving on the whammy bar? Because mine here wont budge unless I dive on the whammy

    None of this should have to be done to a new product, imagine if this was a tv set or a ps5 , only in the guitar industry is this type of shoddy fr ted construction acceptable

    • @OhYouAteOne2
      @OhYouAteOne2  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, where do we draw the line for fit and finish vs keeping costs lower though? Would we be willing to pay more of a premium? I have a few of the custom shop signature Wolfgang's and they were PERFECT..

    • @rinkydinky-ob9pe

      @@OhYouAteOne2 totally, i divide by three and that gives the average cost of these instruments , so a 1500 pound guitar probably costs about 4-500 to make because of material costs and volume etc. i was speaking to a store recently and they wouldnt let me see the guitar they wanted to ship me , wouldnt let me pick out an individual model ie serial no. etc. a 2k+ guitar, one of the new fender stratocaster anniversaries , so i kept my money in the bank .
