    Well, you can teach an old dog new tricks! I never thought about the vinegar in the water of my pressure canner degrading the seal. I knew about the the rings, but the seal, never gave it a thought. Even though I have experience canning, I love it that you explain your steps. Hope you're having a great day and Thank you so much!

    I love my electric canner so much that on Black Fri sale I bought a second at half price…now I can run two at the same time….I love being able to run just four quarts of soup etc rather then trying to have enough for seven at a time…..
    To having ready made beans I make some spicy BBQd. My husband loved them because canning it already mixed gives them a good flavor and no baking the beans in the summer…..I also add bacon crumbles to some with chopped onions. He also loved the red beans with jalapeños canned with them.
    I bought pork loin on sale and browned it in my instant pot and then cooked for 20 min pressure…we had a yummy dinner with all the seasonings on the loin it made it tasty……with the left over meat I cut to fit in pint jars and canned it….now when we go camping I can have a quick pork sandwich or have over precooked rice…so good.
    I cook so much that when it comes to camping I want less of it but good meals.
    My next endeavor will be making our own hot dogs but not in casings so I don’t have to buy another machine….I’ll make them up and put in parchment paper individually then in foil grill then open and brown…..there’s sooo much junk in hot dogs and sausage links….hope it’s a success…🤩

    yes the vinegar keeps the hard water from clouding jars in the canner but wrecks the rings by rusting... I recently heard about adding cream of tartar to the canner water and it works amazing! no hard water clouding and no damage to rings!

    Yea I’ve had jars break on me twice, both times I was canning blackberries, idk, but it happens. And I just want to say, … I live in Kentucky and I don’t know if it’s everywhere, but the price of ALL canned beans is a joke!!! I was at Kroger yesterday and I was sooooo frustrated at how the prices are continuing to go up every daggone month!! A can of light red kidney beans was $2.69!!! I mean, why?? I’ve got four boys and a daughter I have to feed every day and I wasn’t the only one complaining, it was a hot topic down the aisles , but are the prices ever going to just stabilize for a while, cuz if not then idk!! Awesome video Jessica, I am so going to be canning beans, I think it’s a have to at this point. Looking forward to more tutorials!!

      @modernhomesteadalaska  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh I’m with you! They were so cheap fir so long it was just honestly easier to buy them. I can’t take the price! I have so many dry beans it’s a time saver over anything to just open a can of beans. But I couldn’t stand paying for them anymore.

What is that thought first supermarkets in the us were in the 40s maybe canned beans is a new thing. Now the younger kids have no clue how to cook them. Lol you have my head deep in thought now.

    Isn't it crazy that it only takes 1/2 cup of dry beans per pint. I did 1 cup to a quart, and thought "I am only going to have a 1/2 jar of beans when done!" Nope I had very full qts. Only difference is I waterbath mine. I also add chicken or beef broth instead of water. I use pinto beans and add 1 tablespoon of chili powder and fill with my homemade V8 juice and then I have Chilli beans in sauce.
