After replacing front axle seals, I had the abs/traction sensors light up. Your video got me through it with ease. After completion and to my frustration, the lights were still there, then I realized I’d actually have to move the Jeep for them then to shut off. Thanks to Jeep owners like you pumping out these videos so we can continue to avoid dealerships and unnecessary costs.
Thank you! I wish EVERY instructional video was like this, to the point, and showing what you're doing. The biggest thing is you get to the point, and do not over explain every detail and ramble about everything! Also you didn't act like we're ignorant and talk to us like a parent teaching a toddler, lol (That's the worst). But overall a 6 min video and getting the job done correctly, amazing job brother! Thank you!! again!
This saved me a LOT of time! Thanks. Two things I did that made it a little bit easier were: To avoid bending that dust shield, I fed slack wire through the hole, toward the sensor, then pulled out the sensor and fed it all back through the hole; To avoid having to be careful with taking pictures of where to route the cable, I left most of it in place and each time I removed the old wire from a fastening point, I immediately fastened the new one there -- I walked the full length with steps like that.
One recommendation. Use $14 generics for rear since it is a ten minute job taking out the sensor bolt and red tab on harness. And you don't even need to jack up vehicle up for rears. But use $45 OEM sensor for fronts since it is a much longer investment in labor.
Thanks for the video. Very nicely done. I have the exact same jack and stands! I use baling wire or long tie wraps to hold the brakes if they wont stay tucked out of the way. You can accomplish anything with duct tape, baling wire, a screwdriver, and a bigger hammer! Oh and of course cold beer!
Very good video and explanation. I would recommend popping the hood to have better visibility where it plugs in. Other than that it’s an simple install. Don’t go to the dealership!
2009 jeep wrangler jk, i had enough room to replace my right rear sensor without removing the wheel or brakes. it took about 20 minutes, the hardest part was to remove the red clip on the sensor plug. Dealership wanted $300 , i bought the replacement sensor at Car Quest for $21 and did it myself. This was only the sensor and not the complete wiring harness. It is plug and play.
Thank you for this video! I just finished up mine earlier today. The toughest part I found tricky was getting the new sensor back into the hole without bending the brake shield too much. Great guide!
jellosmello glad it helped , the rear ones pretty easy to do . And you will have to sooner or later I’m sure haha . They seem to be a poor design or quality
xtr3m3 hope it helps I think I showed the details enough , after I posted it I got to thinking I should have should putting it back together. Good luck
@@ArmadilloJunction , As a neophyte, I found your video very illustrative and with enough detail that somehow, now I believe I can pull this job off.... Expect a "help me" post if I run into trouble. Thanks in advance. LOL!
Curious if you might have an idea, can you run new wires from the rear to the control module but run them through the cabin instead of underneath? I’ve gone through a few now and last time the rear went and it wasn’t the sensor they took the body off and fix it. Fun fact, if you lose 2 at once your transmission goes into limp mode, so don’t wait to long to fix it
Dang didn’t know 2 at once would cause that . It’s definitely a problem on these jeeps . With all the computers in these Jeeps I doubt it would work . I had trouble just changing out the radio . Caused computer problems .
This applies to the front axle only. The rear sensors are different. I've got my wheels off now because the traction control and abs lights lit up after a brake job and I'm finding it a bugger to get the rear sensors unplugged so I can test them with a multimeter. Was hoping this video would help.
Huh? Front is 60 to 90 minutes, rears are ten minutes and you do not need to jack it up or taking anything off but he sensor bolt and red tab harness release.
Yea I’ve hear it’s not much fun when they break inside . 35,000 miles and replaced one on back and this one . That’s unacceptable. This jeeps been pampered. My last one was beat on and they never went out lol
Karl Eric G I work on a bunch of cars so I can’t recall if this one puts a code to reset or not ,,, I’m thinking no,, I’m thinking it’s like the low tire light it resets when problems fixed and driven.
Quick question. I read that you replaced this twice….was it the same one? I did mine about a year ago and it went bad again…starting to think it’s something else, unless these are common to fail
Thanks for video. I replaced mine and lights reset. Then came back on the code says implausible wheel speed signal received and left from wheel speed signal erratic performance. Any idea when e I did it wrong or if just got a defective sensor
I’ve replaced a few of them and never had an issue afterwards. Did you apply the electrical grease? Maybe bad connection at fender connection ? Really not much to go wrong , guess it’s possible a bad one .
@@ArmadilloJunction maybe my problem is I didn’t apply enough. Thought it was lubricant for seals not for sensor. Made sure to wipe off sensor before installing
My sensor was so corroded that it snapped when I pulled it out, and left the sensor tip inside the wheel base. Had to drive a small screw into that plastic and wiggled it back and forth for a good 10 mins before I can extract it out. Wasn't fun at all, I think my neighbor from about 5 houses down the street heard me drop the F-bomb when that thing snapped. Lesson to this story: use vice grips and grab that sensor, gently wiggle/twist it ever so slightly until it disengage.
Pav The Great haha yea it’s pretty ridiculous a vehicle that’s built to be tough has such a small easily broke or corroded. This is a 2017 and already replaced a front and rear one .
I just broke one of mine trying to get the hub and bearing off to fix my axle seal. I was wondering about a good idea on how to get the broken one out. I'll be doing that tomorrow.
hey armadillo I'm pretty sure i need to do this after towing with my JK 2dr all the brake system lights came on, can you tell me how do i figure out which sensor it is??

My dealer took 15 days to complete this job and 400 dolars, i wish that you had made this video 5 years ago and would have 400 extra now 😂 oh and now im back cuz i broke just now again
They are notorious for going bad on their own but also from getting banged around while wheeling . I wouldn’t think there would be enough current going to it to short even if it was rubbing on something bare wire to metal. But with today’s computers on everything, who knows
Arguably the most difficult part of this is the one thing you didn't cover. How did you remove the plug on the back side of the shock tower with the keepers holding it on. I for one can't get my mits back there even up to my wrist. The rest of the job is literally a 5-10 minute task, but that one spot has now occupied at least an hour of my time. Any ideas or unpublished footage on the cutting room floor??
@@mfsmfs63 Thanks for the video. I went to autozone and advanced and both said their code readers will not read unless check engine light is on.
