Listened to this in high school, 82-85 time frame, on cassette tape in my buddy's Chevy Blazer. Driving dirt roads with a cooler of cold beer and the music blasting....
i know they'll always be known for sweet home, freebird et al but hidden gems like this, mississippi kid, i need you means that skynyrd are probably one of the most underrated bands ever. Dont think ronnie wrote a "bad" song ever. pure genius :D
@@tats5880 I did indeed, have the whole back catalogue and seen them 5 times. To people who may know them for the popular songs, they need to discover the hidden gems.
This right here is the true Lynyrd Skynyrd. I truly believe from what he says that they were taught to sing this way. This his their true roots of music. I would imagine old Baptist hymnals on the way up is touching and refreshing. this is Lynyrd Skynyrd , and I believe they had it made in the shade
I just love this song....it pure magic that became the greatest show on Earth.... they maybe gone ....but their music will out live us all..... don't let that tree Fall down on you ...lol
This was such a great tune to have witnessed live with those boys in Memphis Tn…. I will never forget watching them play with Gary on mandolin, Allen on a acoustic, l believe Jimmy Hall was on harp too.. l thinking Ed had a acoustic too… they seem to love playing here as much as us folks loved watching them. Great memories @ Mid south Coliseum.
dont care what anybody says and there has literally been a few times years ago growing up in cleveland I had to fight with some screwball for turning skynyrd songs off when I played them on the jukebox , which I really didnt mind a bit kicking someones ass for interferring with my solitude and serenity and piece of mind drinking jack daniels
John Carous well sir! You are a yankee after my own heart! I only had to do it once and no one since has done anything that foolish! God Bless you sir!
Just what Ronnie would have done. "Come to a fix, not afraid to fight - you got that right." How the hell do you turn off a song on a jukebox though...?!
October 20 1977 39 years ago today we lost the great talents when the Freebird went down taking our legends from us.. rest in peace,,, Ronnie Steve and Cassie
Great song and upload Mark, Thanks for letting us have the chance to listen to the best to ever perform. I am same age as them, Oct. 20th 1977 tore us up, but man thanks to people like you we can go back to the 70s any time we want. Greatly appreciated, have a good one man
Yeah that Hank Jr. cover was good too. "Rolling? Well, after the show's over me and the boys like to get in the back of the bus and play music just like this here. 1, 2, 3, 4 and..."
Had my kid listen to this today....and he dug it:-) Today he got an education in music...and not Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, etc...he is gonna learn oh yeah he is gonna learn! LOL!

Laura Holcombe you’re right it’s the best and I got to grow up listening to this I got to see them live 4 times and I loved it so very much nothing to compare them to

@@scottyjohnson3120 oh yes ! have you seen the documentary IF I LEAVE HERE TOMORROW "? it's all about skynyrd and Gary and Johnny talk at the end of getting answers ' when they go to rock n roll heaven. ♡☆♡
This song always reminds me of a shameless gold digger (that's probably redundant, I know) who tried to hook up with me long ago. This was a bit strange, since I didn't really have much much money. Well, I guess these things are all relative to some degree. After I left her (with my bank account still intact - thanks for asking), I thought of the line in this song, "You had it made in the shade, baby - done let that tree fall down on you." It takes all kinds to make a world, I suppose.
Well Mr.Rick UR not alone. There aren’t record companies or people who put time into being a quality musician of any rank, caliber or appreciable level of craft regardless of genre. Probably aren’t music programs in school any more, just computer classes, what they teach kids these days I know not, I’ve heard they don’t even teach cursive writing anymore?? Well, I’m not trying to bash the new world paradigm, I’ll say one thing, the only good part about being old is I don’t have to see much more of it. I can’t relate at all to rap or hip hop, I only know I’ve been exposed to that contagioun because I have a peculiar impulse to rhyme, and I don’t want to think in terms of rhymes, no big. The storytellers are gone, The 1-4-5 change is all but wore out, but like the sun shines on. Rap and hip hop to me are as phony as the world of plastic and computers everyone is being forced into, can’t go apply to a job even anymore, gotta go through some Bullshit job search engine, just a goddamn world of shit, and the rap crap is a mere reflection, computerized and generated bullshit, long live Carlin!!!

You dang skippy.
this is one of the best tunes ever. reminds me of drinkin, fungus, sun, laughter, peace on earth. remember having fun? i miss that, this helps
A little influence from Jimmie Rodgers never hurt anyone...
The Blue Yodeler would have tipped his hat to them with a chuckle, a grin on his face and a twinkle in his eye.
I love how everything rolls downhill. Til todsy

Yep. It's the deep cuts that really show how good a band is. Skynyrd's deep cuts are as good as literally anybody's, including the Beatles.
Eh, there was one or two that i didnt like because they were too slow for my liking but they definitely arent bad songs
If you think they're under rated than clearly you didn't grow up with the band!!!
@@tats5880 I did indeed, have the whole back catalogue and seen them 5 times. To people who may know them for the popular songs, they need to discover the hidden gems.
Impossible for Ronnie to write a bad song. Agree??
This song needs to be played not once, not twice but at least three times in a row.
