I totally lost my 10mm at the yard I found the part at. I might grab the whole hatch tomorrow morning so I have a second one for use to custom make a longer tail to lower drag and be an extension for hauling longer materials or stowing the captains booty and stuff.

Where can I buy this? I can't find it anywhere except Alibaba which wants me to buy 10 of them.

I found it on amazon by looking up the part number on a Toyota website. After finding the part number a variety of sellers will pop up. You might even be able to find the ASIN on the package if you pause it at the right time.

Isn’t there a much better way to take the button off instead of taking the whole thing off?

This is the only way to get access to the hardware that holds in the button. It's a fairly easy process and shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes.

Doesn't seem like this part serves any function.

Not to you I guess. It served my satisfaction for ergonomics and vehicle maintenance.
