For me, the only way to decide was to go with who has/had the bigger vocal range. Jimmy has/had a 4 and a half octave range, and John has/had a 3 octave +2 notes range, so I have Jimmy no1 John no2.
HOWEVER, John's vocal ability is far more versatile and adaptable. Jimmy himself, in interview on camera, has hailed John as the BEST singer. There is more to singing than just vocal range.
